Colour and creativity

Our artists in residence — Oak's art, craft and design teachers — have selected lessons to keep creativity flowing.

Did you know art can be good for mental health and well-being?

The act of making art is so absorbing that you can sometimes lose yourself in the act. Losing a sense of time reduces anxiety, boosts our mood and can even slow our heart rate and keep us healthier.

Creative projects can be really enjoyable, which releases something called dopamine into our brains which makes artists feel good. Increasing our levels of dopamine will boost our mood, emotions and even how well our brains function.
