Will Mabbitt's recommended reads

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken

This book sees cousins Bonnie and Sylvia try to reclaim their family home from a wicked guardian. It's set in an alternate history where huge packs of wolves roam wild in the English countryside. I didn't read this classic kids book until I was 42 years old. Don't make the same mistake as me.

When Stars are Scattered by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed

This graphic novel tells the true story of two young boys in a Kenyan refugee camp. The story is amazing and Victoria Jamieson is one of my favourite illustrators.

The Goat by Anne Fleming

I absolutely loved this book about how a bored girl changes the lives of everyone she meets for the better, all whilst looking for the mountain goat that lives wild on the outside of her skyscraper.

Q&A with Will Mabbitt

If you could be a storybook character, who would you be?

I like the murderous coxswain, Israel Hands, from RL Stevenson’s Treasure Island. He gets the best chapter in one of the best books ever, so I'd be him. Even though he gets shot.

What is the best thing about reading?

It's fun!

What is your all-time favourite book?

My favourite books change all the time. At the moment it's Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson.
