Hello everyone, its great to see you in a previous lesson we were learning how to double.

double means two groups of the same thing, or adding the same number twice.

Let see if we can practise that by using our figures, I'm going to hold up one finger and I know that too double one, I need to add one more finger.

double one is one, two double one is two.

Let see if we can try that again with two, so I know that I can hold up two fingers and to double two, I need to add another two.

Double two is, one, two, three, four double two is four, lets see if you can double hold up five fingers to the screen, can you hold up another five, what is double five? Shout your answer out to the screen when you know.

I can hear a lot of you shouting out the answer lets do it together, so I hold up five fingers then I hold up another five, double five is one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.

Double five is ten, well done everybody give yourself two claps for great doubling.

Here is a fun fact for you, here is ten Half of ten, is five.

and we are going to be exploring that today as we explore the concept of half, here is what you are going to need for today's lesson you will need a container with ten objects for counting that could be cubes, pieces of pasta, small toys or anything you have at home suitable for counting.

You will also need another container, so two in total, you also need number cards that go up to ten, press pause to go get those things now, and ill see you in a bit when you're ready.

Welcome back everyone, now that you have your objects for counting, your two containers and your number card's you are ready for today's learning as we explore the concept of half lets take a look at our star words.

I'm going to say them and you can say them after me, are you ready? half, altogether, equal, how many, and count.

Those are our star words for today I have a little friend who is going to help us with our learning today.

Can you say hello to Reggie Reggie says hello everyone Reggie say he is a little bit hungry what I have Reggie, is a little snack that I was going to eat later.

Here it is I have some tortia bread here, Reggie say's he would like to share my tortia bread Reggie says he would like half.

Lets see how we can make that happen here is my tortia bread on the screen wonder if you can see it? How can we half it, do you know? shout your answer out if you do.

I have heard a good suggestion, someone said to fold it in half so lets see if we can do that lets see if we can fold the bread in half, just like this there we are, now I'm going to open it let's see if I can tare it along the fold there we go, half half for me, and half for Reggie.

That was good sharing, in half, well done Half for you, and half for me Reggie said he would also like to share my orange let's see how we can make that happen this one might be a little bit more tricky.

So here is my orange, its a whole at the moment let's see how we can share that I'm going to split the segments so we can have, one for Reggie, one for me, another one for Reggie, and another one for me, we can have one more for Reggie, and one more for me.

How many do we have each at the moment? can you shout your answer out to the screen.

Great I heard some of you say three each, let's count them, one, two, three, one, two, three, we have three each at the moment I haven't finished yet.

Another one for Reggie, and another one for me, and one for Reggie, and one more for me, there we are, I have shared my orange in half I have split my whole into two equal groups.

One, two, three, four, five for me, One, two, three, four, five pieces for Reggie there we are, great sharing well done Reggie's got to go now, bye everybody.

So there we are, we did a bit of sharing there Sharing a whole into two equal groups, did a bit of halving.

Now lets see what else we can half Got some cubes here, I'm going to put them on the screen so you can see them one, two, three, four.

There we are four cubes how can we share them into two equal groups? How can we half them? Shout your answer out to the screen if you know Great I can hear some of you shouting out great suggestion, let's see how we can do that using our containers.

So there we are, I have four cubes here there we are, number four and I'm going to put it there I'm going to share these cubes, I'm going to half them, one in this bowl, one in that bowl, one in the orange bowl, and one in the pink bowl.

There we are I have halved four can you help me count how many there are in each bowl let's start with the pink one, one, two two cubes in the pink bowl one, two two cubes in the orange bowl half of four is two, can you say that? Great job everybody, now let try that with a different number, here we are can you shout out what number I'm holding up? Six, well done let's see if we can work out what half of six is so I'm going to put my number six here then I'm going to get six cubes got six cubes in my hand, and now I'm going to count them out into two bowls by sharing them in half, lets see if we can do that together one in this bowl, two, three, four, five, six.

There we are, I have halved six how many cubes are in each bowl? What is half of six? Shout your answer out the screen if you know.

Great lets count together how many are in the pink bowl? One, two, three great now how many in the orange bowl? you can count with me, one, two, three, there are three cubes in each bowl half of six is three, can you say that? Great job everybody, give yourself a pat on the back for great counting.

Excellent, now its your turn I'm going to hold a number card to the screen and then you are going to count out that amount of objects from your container.

Then your going to have a go at halving them yourselves.

Here you go, count out eight objects in front of you then have a go at halving them in your two containers press pause now to go and do that and ill see you in a bit when your ready.

Welcome back everybody, did you half number eight? Lets see if we can have at doing that together.

There we are, there is eight there and I'm going to count out eight cubes got eight cubes in my hand and you can count them out with me one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

There we are, we have halved eight how many cubes are in each bowl? What is half of eight? Shout your answer out to the screen when you are ready.

Great I can hear some of you shouting out the answer let's count them together let's start with the pink bowl one, two, three, four, and the orange bowl, one, two, three, four.

There we are we have worked half of eight half of eight is four can you say that? Well done everybody, your doing a great job give yourself a fantastic for great joining in now lets see if we can work out one more number, here we are what's the number? Ten count out ten of your objects in front of you and have a go a sharing them between to containers having a go at halving your amount of objects press pause and Ill see you in a bit when you have done that.

Welcome back everybody did you half ten? Let's see what the answer is going to be I have got ten cubes in front of me they are two different colours let's see what half of ten is.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten.

How many cubes are in each container ? Well done, I can hear some of you shouting out the answers lets count them together one, two, three, four, five in the pink one and one, two, three, four, five in the orange one half of ten is five.

Can you say that? Great job everybody, now with your cards practise halving different amounts into your two containers your should have your number cards up to ten, you can turn them over like a little game, and then you can choose one, turn it the right way and then have a go at halving it.

Well done for today everybody, and I will see you again next time.
