Hi everyone.

And welcome back to another RHE lesson with me, Miss Plummer.

The title of today's lesson is One Big Family in this unit we're learning all about families.

And today we're going to learn about the different types of families that there are in our world.

In this lesson, you will need some paper, pencil, and some coloured pencils, if you have them.

Pause the video to go and find those things In today's lesson, we will start by thinking about the special people that care about you.

Then we will think about our world.

After that, you're going to think about the people in your family.

Then we will compare that and think about the different families that there are in the world.

And finally, you're going to create one big world to represent all the different families.

Here are my special people, the people that care about me, there's my mum, my auntie, my brothers, my grandma, and my granddad, and they all care and they all show they care in different ways.

Who are your special people, who care about you? This is where we live.

This is home to us and many, many people around the world.

We are just one tiny country, out of lots of countries.

In this world, there are seven continents.

Can you show me that on your fingers? Seven.

Well done.

And in those continents, there are 195 countries.

And inside those countries, there are approximately 7.

8 billion people.

We can't count those on our fingers.

Can we? That is a lot of people all around the world.

We say approximately, because that number is always changing.

It's changing right now.

Now let's think about your family.

We are a tiny, tiny person in one big world.

Who's in your family? Who do you live with? I've shown you my family there's my mum, my brothers, my grandma, my granddad, my auntie.

I've also got other aunties, uncles, cousins.

There's lots of people in my family.

Have a think about who's in your family.

Pause the video.

And you can draw your family on your piece of paper.

Now that we've learned about your family.

And you've learned about mine.

Let's think about different families that there are around the world.

I bet that your family is different to the people next door.

Isn't it? And I bet their family is different to the people next door to them.

There are so many different types of families and it doesn't matter.

There's no better or worse.

Every family is different than that is okay.

As long as you love and care for each other, that's the main thing.

Isn't it? So the first type of family we're going to learn about is an extended family.

Extended.

Can you show me that? Extended, well done.

And in an extended family.

There are parents.

There might be a child or children, it might be two or three children.

And then there might be grandparents and other relatives that live in the house.

Maybe aunties, uncles, cousins.

That is a big family that live in one house, extended family.

What was that word again? Extended.

Well done.

Another type of family is a single parent family.

So in a single parent family, there will be one parent and one child, or maybe more children that live in the same house.

Another type of family is the same sex family.

So in this family, there might be two mommies and children, or there might be two daddies and children.

I've only shown you a few different types of families, but actually in the world, there are so many different types of families.

Every family is different, and remember that's okay.

So today we are going to draw one big world to represent all of those families.

So for that, you're going to need a plate or a cup.

Something that has a circle shape that you can draw around.

Do you want to pause the video and do that on your piece of paper now? Well done.

And then you're going to decorate the world.

Just like I've done, with lots of different types of families.

Around the world I've drawn an extended family, single parent family, same sex families, I've drawn my family, you can even draw your family.

All around the outside of the world to show that every family is different, but that's okay.

So your task, you're going to draw the world, draw around a plate to create a circle, colour it in blue and green.

Then you're going to draw your family.

Then you're going to draw the different families, all around the world.
