Hi friends.

It is Miss Molnar here and we are going to do some Maths learning today.

Are you ready? Well, today what we are going to do is, we are going to look at how to order numbers from 1 to 10.

So, that means if we are to pick up three numbers and we want to figure out which one was worth the least and which one was worth the most, we could put them in order.

But, I might find this a little bit tricky today so I am going to bring along my super Maths friend, Harold the Hedgehog.

Say hi to Harold everyone.

All right.

Let's see what you are going to need to get ready for this lesson.

All right.

So, Harold what do we need for this lesson? We will need some counting objects.

I have got some cubes to help me but you may have something like loge bricks that you could put together or some other blocks or maybe some dry pasta, but make sure you ask a parent or carer to help you with that.

You are also going to need something to help you order your numbers from most to fewest and we have a copy of that in the downloadable resources.

Or.

You can ask a parent or carer to help you draw one.

And finally, we are going to need some pictures for our learning.

You are going to find these in the worksheets of pictures of fish.

All right.

Pause the video, go get all the items that you need and we will come back together to get started.

All right.

So, I am going to pick three number cards.

I have got the number 3, the number 2 and the number 5.

I want to know which number is the smallest.

Do you know which number is the smallest? Well then, if you said 2 you are right.

Number 2 is the smallest.

Which number is the biggest? If you said 5, well done.

I can kind of see you are pretty quickly which one is the biggest and which one is the smallest.

But if I had to put them in order I would find that a little bit tricky.

What we are going to do is, we are goin to use some cubes to help us put them in order.

The first thing I need to do is to build these numbers with my counting objects.

The first one I am going to build is the number 3.

So, I am going to put 3 cubes together.

1, 2 and 3.

Okay.

I have built the number 3.

Can you pause the video and use your counting objects show us 3, 2 and 5? Then we will come back together and I will show you mine.

Pause the video and make the numbers 3, 2 and 5 with your counting objects now.

All right friends.

Did you get on with making your counting objects? Well done.

So we have got 3, 2 and 5 and i can now see the difference between them.

It was really hard for me to see, how number 3, 2 and 5 looked different just by their numbers.

So I need this to build them Now what we need to do is we need to put them in order from the smallest number to the largest number.

Okay? So, from the fewest to the most.

So, looking at my cubes, which one has the fewest amount? If you said 2, well done.

So I am going to move this out of the way and I am going to have 2, come first.

okay So I know 2 is the fewest amount, so its going to come first.

Okay? So now what I have left is I have got 5 and I have got 3.

Okay? I don't want the largest number next.

I want to put the next largest.

One that is gong to be more than 2 but it's not going to be my largest number.

So, if I am gong to compare 3 and 5, which number comes next as the next smallest? If you point to 3 as being the next smallest, well done.

3 will come in the middle.

Because its not the largest one, it comes in the middle in our order.

And then finally we have got 5 as the biggest one okay.

because 5 has the most amount of cubes.

That one is going to be my largest or my most.

Harold seems to be playing around with my number cards and my number cards from 1 to 10 are all out of order.

Oh my goodness.

I am wondering if you can help me.

If I build my cubes, can you help me spot which numbers should come first? Can we put the numbers 1 to 10 in order? Let's think about our smallest number.

What number would we start with? If you said 1, way to go.

So I need to have 1 cube and then I need to match it with my number 1 card.

Can you point to the number 1 card on my screen? Well done.

I have got one that comes first with my number 1 cube.

If I think what would come next when I am ordering I need the number next that's one more than 1.

Can you imagine having 1 cube and then 1 more? Taking a look at the numbers at the top which one would come next? You can point to it if you see it.

Well done.

Next we have the number 2 in our order.

We have got two cubes and the number 2.

Well done We can see our staircase starting to build, can't we? We've got 1 and then 2.

What number will come in our staircase next? We need 1 more then number 2.

You might want to think in your head.

I got 0, 1, 2.

3.

That's right.

Well done.

I need 3 cubes.

Can you point the number 3 at the top of the screen? Way to go.

There's our number 3.

All right.

Now I need to find my next number.

I have got 1,2,3.

What's my next biggest number if I am putting my number cards in order? You can pause the video and look at the dots if you want it to help you.

If you count the number of dots that will help you find the next number in our sequence.

If you point to the number 4 ,well done.

We've got 4 next.

And look at that.

Our towers are getting a little bit taller each time, aren't they? All right.

We need to spot our next number.

So, if I am going in order again, I have got 1,2,3,4 and my next number is going to be.

Can you point to it? That's right.

We will have number 5 next.

Way to go.

I have got only a few numbers left at the top.

I need to see which one is going to be 1 more than 5.

If I was to add one more cube to my tower of 5, what number would come next? Well done.

It should be 6.

There's my tower of 6.

Fantastic.

All right.

We are getting there.

We've almost ordered them all.

My goodness.

This is a lot of effort, Harold.

Next time we have to keep them in order.

All right.

We have got 1,2,3,4,5,6 and my next tower should be 7? Way to go.

Well done.

There is my 7 tower.

Now I need 1 more than 7.

What number comes after 7? If you said 8, well done boys and girls.

We've got 8 next.

My goodness.

We are almost there.

I have got 7,8,9.

Well done.

Then finally my greatest number if I am counting from 1 to 10.

My largest number is going to be the number 10.

Well done friends.

There we go Now we've got our number blocs all made in our towers from 1 to 10 and they have gone in order.

Thank you for all the help of putting them in order.

Somewhat we have done here, is we've ordered the numbers from the fewest or the smallest to the most.

We have gone from the smallest number to the largest number.

That's called in ascending order or counting up or counting forwards.

You are going to have to do your task a little bit differently next.

Okay? So, let's see what we are going to do.

All right.

So, as you can see, we've made our towers of numbers, haven't we? Miss Molnar started from number 1 and you have helped her put it in ascending order all the way up to number 10.

All right now.

Your talk task is going to be a little bit different.

Okay? So, I've got the numbers from 1 to 10 all mixed up again.

That silly Harold has mixed them all up.

My goodness.

Miss Molnar has started to put the numbers in order from number 1 all the way up to number 10 using her counting objects to build at the same time.

What we would like you to do is to go backwards.

We want you to start with number 10 and you can see that we have got the number 10 card in the first place there and we've got ten counting objects in the tower.

We've started with 10.

Then we want you to take your number cards and put them in order from the biggest number, number 10, all the way down to number 1.

You can use your counting object alongside to build them.

We've got number 10 done for you.

The next one you are going to have to do is to find your number 9 card.

Build it using your counting objects.

So, either it could be in a tower if you've got cubes or loge bricks or if you are using something like dry pasta, you could lay it down on the table as if it's a tower on the table.

You are going to put the number 9 on top and your 9 counting objects.

Then you are going to go to the next number.

So, you are going to kind of make your number blocks towers in order like a staircase but you are going to go the opposite direction.

From 10, the most all the way down to 1.

Then, when you have done that, you might use some of the sentences below.

You might say, I know that 9 is next because 10 is one more than 9.

You might say 10 is the greatest number.

Or you might say, five is greater than four or four is less than five.

So have a go at some of those number sentences that you could say out loud.

Pause the video.

Get all the equipment you need and we'll come back together to see how you've done.

All right friends.

How did you get on with making your number towers? Were you able to put the numbers in order from the largest, number 10, all the way down to the smallest number 1? It should have looked something like this with your tower.

Great job everyone.

All right.

Now, we've got some pictures of fish bowls with some fish in them on the screen.

Okay.

What we want to do is, you will see below there are some boxes, there's three boxes.

What we want to do is, we need to place the fish in each of those three boxes but we want to put them in order from the fish bowl with the fewest fish or the smallest amount of fish to the fish bowl with the most amount of fish.

Okay? So, the first thing we need to do is let's count how many fish are inside each fish bowl.

Okay? So, in that first fish bowl, let's count how many there are together.

1,2,3,4,5.

Okay? So that first fish bowl has 5.

Lets look at the middle fish bowl.

How many fish are in the middle fish bowl? If you said 0, well done.

There are no fish inside that fish bowl.

Well done.

And our very last fish bowl, how many fish do we have? There are 2.

Well done.

So now that we know those numbers of fish, we need to find first the fish bowl with the fewest amount of fish in them.

Do you remember which fish bowl had the least amount of fish? Can you point to it? Well done.

The fish bowl with 0 fish is our fewest amount.

I am going to put that in the fewest box.

Okay? Now, I need to know which fish was going to go in the middle.

Is it going to be the fish bowl with the most fish? No.

You are right.

I know that the most fish has to go in the final box that says most because its the biggest amount.

So, I need to find the one that's got the next largest amount, not the most.

Which one has the next amount that goes in the middle? Is it going to be the 5 fish or the 2 fish? If you said 2, well done, because I want the next largest amount.

So, I have got the fewest in the farthest away box then I've got my 2 fish and then finally the 5 fish goes in my most box.

So, I have put the fish in order from the fewest to the most.

All right.

So, Harold and I would like you to have a go now at your Main Task.

You can find, in the resources, the boxes that show fewest to most or most to fewest or you can have a parent or carer help you draw one.

Then you could also find fish bowls in the resources.

Again you could also draw some, to order as well.

So, what you are going to do is, you are going to choose 3 fish bowls at a time.

Okay? So you can have them all over the table and you are going to choose 3 of them.

Then you are going to look at how many fish are in each bowl and you are going to try and put them in order.

So if you've got the 3 boxes that say fewest to most, you need to find the fish bowl with the least amount of fish first and then order them up.

But if you were to have a go at the chart even further down here it says most to fewest.

So that means you need to start with the most fish first and then order them to the fewest.

Alright Pause the video.

Get what you need and we can't wait to see how you get on with ordering those fish and the fish bowls.

How did you get on with ordering these fish bowls everyone? Well, we are sure that you did a great job at putting all of these numbers in order and we can't wait to see some of those photos of your learnings from today, whether it was making the number blocks and putting them in order or if it was putting the fish bowls in order.

I am sure your teacher would love to see all you've been up to today and of course, we would like to see what you have been up to as well.

So, you can ask a parent or carer to share with us some of the photos from your learning today with us at Oak.

Well, that's all we have time for today everyone but we really hope you enjoyed putting those numbers in order from 1 to 10.

That's it for us.

We'll see you next time.

Bye.
