Hi friends.

It's Ms. Molnar here.

And we are here today to do some super fantastic, amazing maths learning.

So today we're going to be looking at counting and recognising numbers up to the number eight.

All right.

Let's see what you're going to need for this lesson.

All right.

So for today's lesson you're going to need some counting objects.

I've got some cubes, but you might have a different item at home that your parent or carer will let you count with.

You're also going to need two ten frames.

Now, you can find those in the downloadable resources but if you can't print them, don't worry.

You could get a parent or carer to help you draw them.

All right, pause the video.

Go get what you need and we'll come back together to get started.

Okay.

So we thought we could practise some of our counting up to seven forwards and backwards first, to get us ready for our learning.

And I couldn't do a counting game without one of my best friends, Harold the hedgehog.

Because he loves to do his counting.

All right, let's start first by counting forwards in to seven.

Are we ready? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

Well done, everyone.

This time let's count backwards.

But let's do it in a whisper voice.

Are you ready, everyone? Here we go.

Seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.

Well done.

All right.

Hm, I wonder what kind of voice we should do it in this time? I think we should do it in a really cool cat voice.

Are you ready? Get your coolest voice ready.

And we're going to count forwards to seven.

Here we go.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

Well done.

All right.

Let's count backwards, this time in our best mouse voice.

Do you have your mouse voice ready? All right, everyone.

Here we go.

Counting backwards in our best mouse voice.

Seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.

Well done, everyone.

All right.

If you'd like to, you can pause the video and you could count backwards or forwards from seven in a different voice.

All right.

If you're coming back with us together now I think we're going to blast off into our lesson.

So let's do a count down from 10 and we'll blast off our rocket ships.

ready right into the lesson.

Are we ready, everyone? Here we go.

10, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.

Blast off! Okay, let's start off by playing a little bit of I Spy in my picture for some numbers.

I spy with my little eye something that there are six of.

Can you find something in the picture there are six of? Pause the video and see if you can find it.

All right.

Did you find six of something? Well, I found six of those colourful little egg cups on the shelf.

Do you see them? Well done.

All right.

This time I would like you to spy and find, hm.

Can you find out how many bowls there are on the shelf? So they're coloured yellow and purple.

Can you spy and count how many bowls there are on the shelf? That's right, there are five bowls on the shelf.

Well done.

Hm, I wonder, can you see the jars that are sitting on the bottom shelf? Is there any kind of pattern? How the jars alternate on the shelf, how they go back and forth? Do you see a pattern? Well, you might have saw that it goes red, then orange then red, then orange for the colour of the jars.

Are there any other patterns that you could have seen in the jar? I spot a few more.

What do you notice about the lids of the jars? That's right.

They alternate from yellow to grey, to yellow, to grey.

And there's one more pattern I see on the jars.

Do you see the shapes and the colours of them on the jars? That's right.

We've got pink and then green and then pink and then green.

But you also might've noticed that we've got different shapes, so you've got a square and then a circle and then a square and then a circle.

Wow, there's so many patterns in this picture.

I wonder if you can notice how many sausages there are in the pan.

Shall we count them together, ready? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

Well done.

There are eight sausages and we're going to focus on learning all about the number eight today.

All right.

So on the ten frame we have some cubes and it shows the number seven.

Let's count them to make sure, ready? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

Well done.

Now do the seven cubes on the ten frame.

If I turn them around, would they look just like my number seven? That's right.

They would make the same shape.

Well done.

But what would happen if I added one more cube? If we add one more to seven, what number do we get? If you said eight, way to go.

This is our number eight number.

He is eight because he's got eight pink cubes to make up the number eight.

Let's double check and make sure we've got eight cubes, ready? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

Well done.

One more than seven is the number eight.

Oh, goodness.

Something's happened this time.

Hm.

Has it changed? Our ten frame looks a little bit different.

If we look back at the last page, this was eight.

And we still have that number eight up on the screen still.

But on the ten frame it doesn't look like the blocks that make number eight.

Can you pause the video and count how many cubes you see on the ten frame? Well, if you counted one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, you're right, we still have eight cubes on the ten frame.

But what has changed this time? That's right.

We've moved the cube to a different spot.

We've moved one cube and it still is the number eight even though we've moved it around, we still have eight cubes.

So what we would like you to do is pause the video and we want you to take your counting objects and your ten frame and can you show eight on your ten frame in a different way than Ms. Molnar has? So how are you going to move the cubes around to still represent eight? All right, pause the video and see what you can show us.

All right.

Well, we're sure that you were able to show lots of different ways of finding the number eight on your ten frame.

Well done.

Now, what we would like you to do for your top task is to find in the resources your number cards up to eight.

And if you don't have the number cards, that's okay.

You could draw your own.

That would work too.

You're going to pick up a number card.

So I picked up the number seven and I know it's seven because I can see that there's seven dots on the card.

What I'm going to need to do next is grab two ten frames.

I need to represent the number seven with my counting objects.

Not just one way, in two ways.

So in my one ten frame I've got seven cubes and I could say out loud there are seven counters on the ten frame or seven cubes on the ten frame.

Then I'm going to build seven again on my next ten frame but I'm going to make sure it looks different.

Do you see how both of my ten frames look different? They still show seven, even though they look different.

So we want you to have a go at that.

Pause the video, grab a number card or two and see if you can represent them in different ways.

All right.

Did you have a go at making all those different numbers in different ways on your ten frame? That's great.

All right.

We're going to look a little bit more closely at the number eight now.

Do you see my number line below me? Can you spot with your number goggles? Make sure they're on and clear.

Can you spot with your number goggles where the number eight is on the number line? You can point to it with your finger.

Did you find it? Well done.

Now I wonder what number is one more than eight.

If I was going to jump one more on my number line.

That's right.

Number nine would be one more than eight or it comes after eight.

What number comes before eight, or is one less than eight? That's right.

Remember, we said seven is one less than eight.

Well, I'm wondering if we can practise having a go at writing the number eight so we can practise again with our magic pen in the act.

Get your magic pen ready.

I'm going to start at the top.

And this one number eight is quite fun to do, isn't it? So, I'm kind of going to do like an S shape.

I'm going to go around like a snake and loop back up to the top.

Okay, try that in the air three times with your magic pen.

Well done everyone.

Okay, I'm going to show you how to do it on our whiteboard and then you can have a go on a piece of paper.

Okay, if I'm going to write the number eight with my pen remember I'm going to start at the top.

I'm going to go around like an S or a snake and loop it back up around at the top.

All right.

Have a go with that on a piece of paper if you can, three times.

All right.

So, what we're going to do now is I'm going to pick a number card.

So I picked the number seven.

I know it's seven because I can see seven dots below it.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

Yeah, I've got seven.

Okay, now what we're going to do is I'm going to see which of the images beside match my number card seven.

So we're going to have a look.

All right, Harold thinks that he knows.

Harold thinks, what do you think, Harold? Okay, Harold says that there are seven fish.

Do you agree with Harold? No, oh, well, let's see how many fish there are.

We might be wrong, Harold.

Ready, let's count.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

Oh goodness.

That's too many.

We want to find seven.

Are you able to find which picture represents seven on the screen? Can you point to it for us? Oh, well done.

That's right.

It's the ducks.

Let's count them and make sure, ready? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

Fantastic effort, everyone.

Well done.

You helped us fix Harold's mistake.

All right.

So we would like you to have a go at the main task now.

So you can find the number cards from one to eight in the resources, but don't worry if you can't print them, you can always just draw them down on a piece of paper, the numbers one to eight.

You're going to pick up a number card and then you're going to find the pictures in the worksheet and you've got to match them to the correct number.

So if I draw the number three, I've got to find and I've got to count which of those images matches the number three.

Okay, pause the video.

Have a go at matching up all the number cards to a picture and then we'll come back together.

Well everyone, Harold and I think that you've done a super job at matching up all the numbers to those pictures.

And hopefully you've taken some photos of your learning and you can share all the hard work you've been doing today with your teacher and Harold and I would love to see how hard you've been working as well.

So if you'd like, you can ask a parent or carer to share some of those photos with us here at Oak, on our social media.

All right, everyone.

Well, that's all we have time for, for today but we'll hopefully see you next time.

Bye, everyone.
