Hi everyone.

I'm Ms. Boyd and I'll be your music teacher today.

In this lesson, we are going to practise following and responding to musical signals.

You'll have the opportunity to experiment with different types of movement as you respond to what you hear, and you get a chance to practise loads of different melodic and rhythmic patterns.

But before we get started, should we begin with a "Hello" song? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Hello hello, it's good to see you ♪ ♪ Hello hello, it's good to see you ♪ ♪ I must say, you've made my day ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, hello ♪ It's time for us to head to space.

And on our musical journey, we're going to do some special listening.

I'm going to play some music and I would like you to imagine what you can see.

Remember, we're on our way to space.

So what types of things can you see as you listen to this piece of music? For the first time, just close your eyes and listen.

Are you ready? Whoa! There were loads of interesting sounds in that piece of music, wasn't there? What did you see on your journey to space? Yeah, I'm sure I saw some stars and some planets in there.

Let's have another listen.

And this time I want you to keep your eyes open.

Every time you see something in your imagination as you listen to this music, I want you to point at it.

Are you ready? Great listening everyone.

What a fun journey on our way to space.

Now, there's someone I'd like you to meet.

His name is Aiken Drum.

Now don't laugh, but he lives on the moon.

That's right.

His name is Aiken Drum and he lives on the moon.

And he plays a special instrument, called the ladle.

Have a look at the picture of him on our screen.

This song is all about Aiken Drum.

Are you ready to learn this new song with me? There are a lot of words, but you'll pick it up soon enough.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ There was a man lived in the moon ♪ ♪ Lived in the moon, lived in the moon ♪ ♪ There was a man lived in the moon ♪ ♪ His name was Aiken Drum ♪ ♪ And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle ♪ ♪ He played upon a ladle and his name was Aiken Drum ♪ Great job, everyone.

Now our friend, Aiken Drum who lives on the moon, and plays a ladle is a bit of a strange person.

The next few verses of this song will explain what I mean.

But for this verse, what we need to know is that his hat was made of pizza pie.

I don't know.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ And his hat was made of pizza pie ♪ ♪ Of pizza pie, of pizza pie ♪ ♪ His hat was made of pizza pie ♪ ♪ And his name was Aiken Drum ♪ ♪ And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle ♪ ♪ He played upon a ladle and his name was Aiken Drum ♪ Okay, don't laugh.

But he also had a shirt that smelled of tuna fish.

Oh, I know.

I'm so sorry.

Are you ready to sing? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ And his shirt was made of tuna fish ♪ ♪ Of tuna fish, of tuna fish ♪ ♪ His shirt was made of tuna fish ♪ ♪ And his name was Aiken Drum ♪ ♪ And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle ♪ ♪ And he played upon a ladle and his name was Aiken Drum ♪ Okay, now I'm really sorry to tell you this but his pants were made of broccoli.

I know, disgusting, right? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ And his pants were made of broccoli ♪ ♪ Of broccoli, of broccoli ♪ ♪ His pants were made of broccoli ♪ ♪ And his name was Aiken Drum ♪ ♪ And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle ♪ ♪ And he played upon a ladle and his name was Aiken Drum ♪ Okay, one more thing to tell you, his shoes were made of wholemeal bread.

I have no idea why.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ And his shoes were made of wholemeal bread ♪ ♪ Of wholemeal bread, of wholemeal bread ♪ ♪ His shoes were made of wholemeal bread ♪ ♪ And his name was Aiken Drum ♪ ♪ And he played upon a ladle, a ladle, a ladle ♪ ♪ And he played upon a ladle and his name was Aiken Drum ♪ Thanks for singing everyone.

That song had a lot of words and a lot of melodic patterns to learn.

You did fantastic keeping up there.

Great work.

If you like, feel free to rewind the video to have another go.

Now, after all of that with Aiken Drum, we need to sing a much more relaxing song.

We're going to sing, "Star Light, Star Bright." And I'd like you to imagine that you are floating on a star as you sing this.

And I'm really listening out for some great singing so make sure your notes are as close to the ones that I'm singing as possible.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Let's sing that again.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Great job, one more time.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Star light, star bright ♪ ♪ First star I see tonight ♪ ♪ Wish I may, wish I might ♪ ♪ Have the wish I wish tonight ♪ Okay, it's time for us to head back to earth now.

But as we leave space, we'll listen to the same music we heard at the beginning of this session.

This time, as you see all of the planets and stars, on your way back down to earth, I'd like you to wave at them and say goodbye.

Are you ready? Ah, home at last.

Great work today guys.

When we were singing all of those songs, we were actually practising lots of musical techniques.

You practised how to respond to musical signals.

You practised experimenting with different types of movement as we responded to the music that we just had, and you had lots of practising a variety of melodic and rhythmic patterns.

Great work.

But before we go, we have to say goodbye properly with our goodbye song.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye ♪ ♪ It's time to go now ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye ♪ ♪ It's time to go now ♪ ♪ I must say, you've made my day ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye ♪ If you'd like to share some of the music we've made together today, feel free to ask your parent or carer to share your work on social media.
