Hello, everybody.

Miss Hughes here.

And welcome to the job centre.

What would you like to be when you grow up? Tell your screen.

Maybe a pilot, flying planes high into the sky.

Or a tour guide, leading people on safari.

I think I can see an elephant! Or a captain, of a ship sailing across the seas.

Not sure? That's okay.

Because in today's lesson, we're going to understand what it means to have a job.

And then we're going think about our dream job when we've got lots of ideas.

This is your first of the three lessons on jobs.

Number 1 is with me, Miss Hughes, number 2 with Miss Sidenius and number 3 is Mrs. Garrard.

I wonder what their dream job is? In this lesson, we will listen to a story, then we will talk about jobs, and then decide on our dream job.

You're going to need your listening ears, a teddy, and some paper and colours.

I'm going to choose some plain paper so I can make my drawing nice and big.

Pause the video here, get what you need, and I'm waiting to start when you're ready.

Let's begin by listening to a story.

And today, I'm not feeling so well I've got a really bad head.

Where do I need to go? Tell your screen.

Oh great idea, thanks guys! I've come to the doctor and now I feel much better.

And in our story, there is a little blob named Sal.

Can everyone say "Hello Sal"? And Sal is feeling sick.

Let's listen to the story and find out who helped make Sal better.

The story is called "Sal is Sick!" One day, Sal woke up and she was feeling sick.

Her tummy hurt.

Her head hurt.

And she was covered in red, itchy spots.

Sal felt really miserable.

Sal's mum booked her an appointment at the doctors.

Her appointment was at the doctors.

Sal's appointment was for 3:00.

So at 2:30, they drove to the doctor and at exactly 3 pm, the receptionist called Sal's name for her to go and see the doctor.

The doctor was very kind to Sal.

She checked Sal's temperature using a thermometer.

She checked Sal's heart rate.

Can you find your heart beat? Using a stethoscope.

And she asked Sal lots of questions about how she was feeling.

That helped the doctor to know exactly what she needed to do to make Sal feel better.

She prescribed Sal some medicine in a big purple bottle.

And Sal had to take that two times everyday.

And after 3 days, Sal was feeling much better.

She felt so happy that she wasn't sick anymore.

Now, when Sal grows up she wants to be a doctor just like the kind lady who made her better.

The end.

Your turn.

Wow, I'm glad that Sal had someone kind who helped to make her better.

Who was that person? Tell your screen.

That's right, the doctor helped Sal to get better.

How did the doctor help Sal to get better? Tell your screen.

That's right, the doctor checked her temperature, checked her heart rate, and asked her questions, and then she knew what medicine to give her and how much.

Being a doctor is a really hard job.

You have to study hard for a really long time.

But, it's a really great job.

That means you are helping people every day.

Now, that I'm feeling better I'm going to go back to the job centre so we can continue our lesson.

Let's think of some jobs that people do.

A job is something that you do to earn money.

It's something that you do to earn money.

There are lots of fun things that we do in our day like sports, and cooking, and playing and they are fun things, but if they don't earn money, then they are not our job.

People have lots of different jobs.

Here are some pictures of jobs on the screen.

This is me doing my job.

I am a teacher.

And here I am teaching children how to write a story.

What other jobs can you think of? Tell your screen.

You've thought of lots of different jobs.

Let's take a look at this person here.

What do you think this man's job is? He's a cashier at his shop.

He takes money from people who want to buy things.

What about this person? This person might work in an office or work somewhere where they need to carry a lot of paperwork and their laptop.

What about this job? This man, looks like a Policeman.

He's got a hard hat on his head.

And it says Police on the back.

What about this lady? This lady looks like she works in a hospital maybe as a doctor.

There are lots of different jobs.

Why do you think it is important to have a job when you're a grown up? Tell your screen.

It's important to have a job because.

It's important to have a job because so we can earn money to look after ourselves and pay the rent, or the bills on our homes, or to run a car, or to buy food to eat in the Supermarket.

Everything costs money and we get money from having a job.

Now, lets think of some types of jobs.

Lets think of what a doctor does just like the doctor in "Sal is Sick!".

All jobs have different roles.

That's different things that the person doing the job does.

And a doctor's job is to make people feel better when they are sick.

It's to make people feel better when they are sick.

And to do that role, doctors need to wear a special uniform.

What can you see that this doctor is wearing for his job? That's right, the doctor is wearing a white coat so that they stay clean and know when to change their uniform.

And they are carrying a stethoscope which measures our heart rate.

It tells us what our heart is doing.

And doctors work in different places.

They may work in a hospital or a surgery or somewhere else.

So doctors have a very exciting job.

Lets look at the next job on our list.

What job do you think we are looking at here? Tell your screen.

Lots of you said builders.

I think we are looking at builders.

I can see their role is to build things.

I wonder what they are building here? I like how they are working as a team and helping each other.

And builders also have a uniform.

What does a builder wear? Tell your screen.

Builders wear hard hats on their heads.

Why do you think the wear hard hats? They wear hard hats to stop anything from falling on their heads if they are at a dangerous building site.

They sometimes wear jackets with these fluorescent yellow stripes, they're called high visibility stripes, and they mean that the builder can be seen even if it's a bit dark.

And they usually wear strong boots because they are doing lots of walking and they need to keep their feet safe from things that fall.

Builders work at construction sites or sometimes they might work in your home building and fixing different things.

Lets look at our next job.

Do you recognise this person? It's me, Miss Hughes, doing my job which is a teacher.

I teach children to learn to read and write and count at my job.

I don't have a special uniform.

I can wear clothes as long as they are smart.

But I do have to wear this special pass.

You might have seen your teacher wear a pass just like it.

And it means as children and as staff you know that people wearing these badges work at your school and they are safe people.

As a teacher, where do I work? Tell your screen.

You work at.

Right now, I am actually working from my home but usually, I work in a school.

That's a lot of different jobs.

Lets see what we have learned.

I want you to pause your screen here and tell your screen what each of these people does.

So for example, I might say that this is a Police Officer.

Pause the video now.

Lets take a look at the answers.

Did you guess that this is a Police Officer by his uniform? What about this lady? She's a doctor.

We can see she's wearing a white coat and a stethoscope.

And what about me? I'm a teacher.

Well done, everybody.

Now, we thought about lots of jobs that grown ups do and I think we are ready to think of our dream job.

Our dream job is what we want to do most in the world.

And you might have an idea already.

But if you don't, think about what you really like doing and what job you might like to do because of that.

If you like animals a lot you might like to be a Vet.

A person who helps animals to get better when they are sick.

What might you like to be if you really like building things with Lego or Duplo or any other blocks? You might like to be a builder if you like building things.

What about, if you like drawing and painting? You might like to be an artist when you grow up.

Have a think.

What is your dream job and why? Tell your screen.

My dream job is.

Because.

Wow, we've got some really ambitious people who want to do amazing jobs like being a pilot or an astronaut or a physicist.

I can't wait to see what you do when you get older.

Now, it's our time to shine by designing our own dream job.

First, number 1, you are going to draw a picture of your dream job.

And my dream job is what I'm doing, which is to be a teacher.

So I've drawn a picture of me, with my whiteboard behind me, and the children in my class standing next to me.

They've got smiles on their faces because I hope they're happy and enjoy school.

Number 2, if you're ready to, you can write a sentence underneath.

I've written, "I want to be a teacher so I can help children learn to read and write." Or if you're new to writing, you could just write the word of the job you want to do or even the first sound like a "t" for teacher.

And number 3, you can get your teddy and you can act out that dream job.

If you'd like to, please ask your parents or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter tagging Oak National and hashtag "Learn with Oak".

I've loved learning about your dream jobs.

And I hope you've been able to think about what you might like to do when you are older.

I'll see you soon.

Bye.
