Hello, I'm Mrs Howley, and this is Cedric, my helper.

Have you noticed, that Cedric looks different today? I wonder what's different about him.

Cedric, have you had a bath? He hardly ever has a bath.

Why have you had a bath Cedric? That's right, we've got a special visitor in our lesson today.

In this lesson, we're going to role play a character to learn even more about them.

We're going to start with our nursery rhyme, then we're going to choose some questions, and then we're going to do some hot-seating, and then, we're going to write a thought bubble and a speech bubble.

For this lesson you will need, a piece of paper and a pencil, your brilliant brain, and of course your Teddy talk partner.

Pause the video now, so you can collect those things, then press play when you're ready.

Are you ready for our nursery rhyme? In this unit, we've been recycling the nursery rhyme, Row Row Your Boat, all about our story, The Emperor's New Clothes.

I wonder if you can remember what we sang to the Tailor.

Can you get ready to sew? ♪ Sew sew sew the clothes ♪ ♪ He wants something to wear ♪ ♪ Trick him with your clever plan ♪ ♪ And sew them in thin air ♪ Can we try that verse again? I love the actions.

Are you ready? ♪ Sew sew sew the clothes ♪ ♪ He wants something to wear ♪ ♪ Trick him with your clever plan ♪ ♪ And sew them in thin air ♪ Brilliant.

Now what did we sing to the Emperor? He was showing off, and he thinks he's the best.

♪ Show show off your clothes ♪ Off we go.

♪ Show show off your clothes ♪ ♪ You think you are the best ♪ ♪ You don't realise ♪ ♪ You're in your pants and vest ♪ Let's try that one one more time.

♪ Show show off your clothes ♪ ♪ You think you are the best ♪ ♪ You don't realise ♪ ♪ You're in your pants and vest ♪ Well done.

Cedric was right earlier, We have got a very special visitor today.

We're going to be visited by the Emperor himself.

I know Cedric, what questions are we going to ask him? Hmm, I wonder, if we could ask him how he felt, when he was first offered some new clothes? What do you think Cedric? Good idea.

How did you feel when you were offered new clothes? Okay, that's a great question.

I wonder what else we could ask him.

What do you think Cedric? Hmm.

Ooh, how about, what did you think of your new clothes? Yes, yes it would be good to know how he felt when he was first given the clothes that didn't exist.

Now I wonder what else we could ask him.

So we've asked about how he felt at the start of the story? How he felt when he saw the new clothes for the first time? Yes, I wonder if we could ask, how he felt when he realised he'd been tricked? How did you feel when you realised you'd been tricked? You might have some other questions you'd like to ask the Emperor.

Hello there! I'm the Emperor, and I believe you've got some questions you'd like to ask me.

Oh, let's see, what would you like to ask me? How did I feel, when the stranger offered me new clothes? Well, I was extremely excited, because I love clothes.

I love to look my best, I love new clothes.

I wonder if you've got any other questions you'd like to ask me.

What did I think of my new clothes? Well, I couldn't actually see them, but, I assumed that I looked fantastic.

I thought that everybody else could see them, and I thought I looked amazing.

I hope you're not laughing.

I thought I looked amazing.

What did I feel, when I realised I'd been tricked? Well, how do you think I felt? I felt so foolish.

And to make things worse, I was standing in my underpants.

I felt so foolish.

Did you enjoy that? What we were doing there was hot-seating.

I was taking on the role of the Emperor, while Cedric asked me some questions.

Why don't you have a go now with your Teddy talk partner? They can ask you some questions and you can take on the role of the Emperor.

Pause the video now and give it a go.

We're going to think now, about what the Emperor might say, for our speech bubble, and what he might think for our thought bubble.

What might the King say? What might he say when he thinks he's wearing the most magnificent clothes? Hmm, he might say that I look fantastic, I look the best.

That's a good idea.

I look the best.

I look the best.

Let's try that now with a capital letter and a full stop.

We'll think it, say it, punctuate it.

Capital letter, I look the best, full stop.

Now, let's think about what he might think.

Hmm, I know what he might think at the end of the story.

He might think, I feel silly, I feel fed up, I've been tricked.

I'm going to go with, I feel foolish.

I feel foolish.

Capital letter, I feel foolish, full stop.

Let's have a look at some high frequency words, that we might need to write those sentences.

The, the.

I, I.

And we've got some star words, some really tricky words.

Foolish, foolish.

Look, look.

For my other words, I'm going to say the word, robot the word, and then write the word.

For example, in I feel foolish, full stop, I've got the word feel.

So I would say the word, feel, robot the word, f-ee-l, and write the word, feel.

I'm going to have a go now.

So I'm going to start by drawing my thought bubble, nice and big, and I'm going to write what he's thinking.

Which was, I feel foolish.

I, one of our high frequency words, feel, f-ee-l, feel.

I feel, one of our star words, foolish.

I feel foolish, full stop.

I feel foolish.

And now I'm going to write my speech bubble.

So big circular shape, and he says, "I look the best." I, one of our high frequency words again, finger space.

I look, I look, finger space, the, one of our high-frequency words.

I look the, finger space, right, I'm going to say the word and robot the word best.

B-est.

Best, I look the best, full stop.

Now it's your turn to have a go, at writing a thought bubble, and a speech bubble.

What does the Emperor think, and what does he say? Now, you've got some high-frequency words to help you and some star words.

That's right Cedric, but remember to use your phonics, so say the word, robot the word, then write the word.

Pause the video now, then press play when you're done.

How did you get on? We really thought about what the characters think, say and do.

In the next lesson of the unit, we're going to use all this hard work, to help us write about character.

Go on then Cedric, we'll sing the character song one more time to remind us.

♪ Character how do you do it ♪ ♪ Character how do we do it ♪ ♪ Character how do we do it ♪ ♪ Let me show you how ♪ ♪ We show what they say ♪ ♪ We show what they think ♪ ♪ We show what they do ♪ ♪ That's how we do it ♪ Great work.

Have a fantastic day, and we'll see you tomorrow for lesson five of this unit.
