Hello, I'm Adam.

And this is Panda.

We are on Unit Six, Lesson Four using the story "The King and the Moon".

Let's see, what's on the agenda today.

So for our warm up today, a couple of nursery rhymes, both of them new, and then we'll be having a reading activity, when we're going to be thinking about what the King says to each of the characters.

And after that, the main challenge of the session, we're going to be thinking about how we can show the story through acting it out.

All right, let's start with the warmup.

I know.

Panda was just telling me about a nursery rhyme that she knows that reminds her of the story that we're telling where something happens because something happens like the elephant ran because it was scared by a mouse and the mouse ran because it was scared by a banana reminds, reminds her of the story where an old lady swallows as a cat, but she swallows a cat to catch a bird.

And she catches, she swallows the bird to catch a spider and she swallows a spider to catch a fly.

And, well it goes something like this.

♪ I know an old lady who swallowed a fly ♪ ♪ I don't know why she swallowed a fly ♪ Hmm.

♪ Could this be why? ♪ ♪ I know an old lady who swallowed a spider ♪ ♪ that wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her ♪ ♪ She swallowed the spider to catch the fly ♪ ♪ I don't know why she swallowed a fly ♪ ♪ Could this be why? ♪ ♪ I know an old lady who swallowed a bird? ♪ ♪ How absurd ♪ ♪ she swallowed a bird ♪ ♪ She swallowed the bird to catch the spider ♪ ♪ that wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her ♪ ♪ She swallowed the spider to catch the fly ♪ ♪ I don't know why she swallowed a fly ♪ ♪ I don't know why ♪ ♪ I know an old lady swallowed a cat ♪ ♪ Fancy that ♪ ♪ she swallowed a cat ♪ ♪ She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ♪ ♪ She swallowed the bird to catch the spider ♪ ♪ that wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her ♪ ♪ She swallowed the spider to catch the fly ♪ ♪ I don't know why she swallowed a fly ♪ ♪ I don't know why ♪ Here's a nursery rhyme with a spider in it.

Little miss Muffet.

She sat on a tuffet.

eating her curds and whey.

I suspect that that was delicious.

♪ Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet ♪ ♪ eating her curds and whey ♪ ♪ along came a spider and sat down beside her ♪ ♪ and frightened Miss Muffet away away ♪ ♪ And frightened Miss Muffet away ♪ ♪ Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet ♪ ♪ eating her curds and whey ♪ ♪ Along came a spider and sat down beside her ♪ ♪ And frightened Miss Muffet away away ♪ ♪ And frightened Miss Muffet away.

♪ That was fun.

Nursery rhyme's done.

So before we move on to acting out the story, we're going to do a short reading activity, which is why I've got my reading glasses on.

Okay, the screen is about to go blue.

We've been practising using the word, because, in this story, there's another word that's important too.

And it's the question.

Why? Because the King always asks the question.

He says, "Why?" said the King.

"Why?", said the King.

And all of the characters answer.

"Well", says the girl, "it wasn't me.

It wasn't my fault.

Because, I was scared by an elephant".

"It wasn't my fault" said the elephant, "because I was scared by a mouse." "It wasn't my fault." said the mouse "because I was scared by a banana thrown by a monkey." "It was not my fault", said the monkey, "because I was just trying to stop you from singing that horrible song".

I think it's time for us to move on because it's time for us to reenact the story.

So the big challenge of this lesson is to act out the story so we can practise it and practise saying words in our head.

So we're going to do it in two different ways.

And the first way, I'll show you first, is to tell the story without speaking.

So could you watch me and I'll tell the story like this.

So that will be the King.

That will be the singing 'cause he's in love, and that would be the tree and the monkey and everything will be done by actions.

You'll have to imagine the mouse and the elephant.

Okay? So try and watch this and see if see if I can do it.

Could you follow the story? With what I was doing? Would you like to do it with me? Brilliant! Here we go then.

If you're able to and you'd like to stand up, so let's do it together.

So, this is once upon a time and we'll do that for the King.

And he was in love so should we do that? And he sang to the moon.

And in a tree, there was a monkey.

And the monkey threw a banana.

And it landed on the head of a mouse.

Mouse ran, and ran up the tail of an elephant and the elephant ran and scared a girl who threw the eggs splat, splat, splat, splat, splat on the face of the King.

The King goes, "Why?" "It's not my fault, it was the elephant." "Not my fault, it was a mouse." "Not my fault, it was the banana thrown by my monkey." "Not my fault" said the monkey.

"It was you And your horrible singing." Finally, the King climbs the mountain and tries to reach the moon, but he always fell down.

Well done.

I'm going to pause the video now.

Could you try acting out the story without speaking? Brilliant! When you're finished, I'll show you another way to do it.

Good luck, time to work.

So how are you getting on? Were you able to tell the story without speaking? Every word in your head quietly spoken is still said.

We always say that, Panda and I.

Now another way of acting out the story is to act our way through it.

Pretend to be in the story So we could start out pretending to be the King.

Then we can pretend to be the monkey.

And then we could pretend to be the mouse.

You see what I mean? So, I might do it something like this.

Here I am, I'm the King.

Whoa, what a lovely evening! And look at that moon.

Oh, I want the moon.

♪ I love the moon ♪ ♪ It makes me swoon.

♪ Oh, that noise! Please stop! Oh, I'm gon throw this banana.

Whoops.

Splat! What was that? Uh oh.

Oh no, what's this? It's an elephant.

What was that? Oh no, my eggs.

Who threw those eggs? It was me, but it wasn't my fault because I was scared by the elephant.

Get me the elephant! Why did you scare this girl? It wasn't me because I was scared by a mouse.

Fetch me the mouse! You can't go blame me because I was scared by banana thrown by a monkey.

Fetch me the monkey! Well, you can't blame me because I was just trying to stop you from singing.

Oh, well, I have got egg on my face.

I do want the moon.

Oh, let's see if I, can you get me some boxes to stand on? I think I can reach the moon.

It's silly, isn't it? But we can pretend to be in the story and play the story that way.

I'm going to pause the video again.

Do you want to try and pretend that you are acting out the story by being in the story? Good luck.

Time to work.

Did you have fun acting out the story? Maybe you acted the whole thing out in your head without speaking.

That's what Panda likes.

Well, we've done a lot of work today.

We started out by singing some nursery rhymes, we did some reading, thinking about the things that the King said.

"Why" said the King and "because", said the animals "of this and that and the other".

Well, we're working towards you being able to tell the story by yourself in the next lesson.

Which is why we were acting it out today.

So our challenge to you is to show your acting out of this story to someone, and we look forward to seeing you in the next session where we'll be telling the story together, and you will be telling it to your talk tedders as well.

So, until the next time.

Bye, bye.
