Hello, I'm Adam and this is Panda and we are on unit six, lesson six using the story of the King and the moon.

Let's see what's on the agenda today.

So for our warm up today, we really are going to get our heartbeats going and warm up our bodies by doing a song with a dance to it.

And then after that, the big challenge of this session is taking the story of the King and the moon and changing each thing within it to create a new story that comes from the King and the moon.

For this session later you will need a piece of paper and a pencil, but you don't need that yet.

Let's start with our warm up.

So for our warm up today, I've chosen to stand up and I suggest you do the same.

And the first thing we're going to do is feel how warm we are, because we're going to do things that warm us up.

Feel your heartbeat.

Show me how fast it's beating.

Right.

What we're going to do now is going to speed up our heart.

It's going to pump blood around our body much faster, and we are going to get warmer.

And we going to do the song.

Head, shoulders, knees and toes.

Are you ready? ♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes.

♪ ♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes ♪ ♪ And eyes and ears and mouth and nose ♪ ♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes ♪ Now you can't say the word toes bit faster.

♪ Head shoulders knees and ♪ ♪ Knees and ♪ ♪ Head shoulders knees and ♪ ♪ knees and ♪ ♪ And eyes and ears and mouth and nose ♪ ♪ Head shoulders knees and ♪ ♪ Knees and ♪ Now you can't say the word shoulders or toes.

Tricky.

♪ Head knees and ♪ ♪ Knees and ♪ ♪ Head knees and ♪ ♪ Knees and ♪ ♪ And eyes and ears and mouth and nose ♪ ♪ Head knees and ♪ ♪ Knees and ♪ Now you can say everything, but you can't say eyes and we'll get faster.

♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes ♪ ♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes ♪ ♪ And and ears and mouth and nose ♪ ♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes ♪ Now you can say everything, but really fast.

♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes ♪ ♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes ♪ ♪ And eyes and ears and mouth and nose ♪ ♪ Head shoulders knees and toes ♪ ♪ Knees and toes ♪ Feel our heart.

Feel our heart is fast beating.

Much faster.

Are we warmer? Yes, we are.

That was fun.

Warm up done.

And before we recycle the story, we need to remind ourselves of the map of the King and the moon.

So before we recycle a story, it's really important to look at the story that we are basing it on.

Because we are going to use the King and the moon and change the characters, but basically keep the same story.

That's the wonderful thing about recycling, but the story will feel fresh and exciting to us.

So to remind ourselves, this story is set with a King in a palace, and he looks at the moon and he loves it.

So we need a character or characters that love something and maybe make a noise that upsets other animals because he sings and a monkey does not like it.

Please stop singing but the King does not stop singing.

And so the monkey goes to throw coconut and that's when things start to go wrong.

So the monkey throws a coconut that scares a mouse that scares an elephant, the scares a girl who throws eggs into the King's face.

So what we need when we recycle is to choose a new character or new characters for the beginning, maybe change the setting.

So it's not a palace, but somewhere else.

What is it that they're looking at and whatever it is, they've got to be so excited that they sing or make a noise that upsets the other animals.

And we can change monkey to another one, a mouse and elephant.

We can change all of those things, but wouldn't it be fun if all those things come back to, Oh, look at this moment here.

When the girl throws eggs in the King's face, we want a moment like that in the new story.

Okay.

Let's start thinking, let's put our thinking hats on.

I'm going to get a piece of paper.

You can watch for a moment and Panda and I are going to start thinking about our choices.

Okay, here we go.

So this is always a very thoughtful activity when we're thinking of ideas and the plan is to try and have a few ideas and then choose which one we like the best.

And I, I mean that's tricky because we're not in the same room together, but Panda's here to help me.

So let's try and get some ideas.

In the other story, we had a King who loved the moon.

So what would we be excited about? I'm excited about writing stories about dinosaurs, but we've written a dinosaur story.

What about pirates? I like pirate stories.

What do you think Panda? Panda likes fairy stories with magic in it.

Fairy story or pirate story.

What would you choose? Well, when you write your own story, you get to make all the choices.

But what if, Panda can we have your idea and my idea? Could we have pirate fairies? Does that work? So if we had some pirate fairies, they would be wearing power hats and pirate fairies.

They would also, because they are fairies would need to have something wouldn't they? I do like the idea of fairies.

We haven't tell any fairies in any of our stories.

So fairies need the wings, don't they? So let's give them wings.

Pirate fairies, I don't know any stories of pirate fairies.

So I'm interested in that and I care about that.

And they're on an island in the sea and maybe their boat is mod somewhere.

I don't have to think where that boat is nearby.

Right.

We need a tree I think 'cause it's a tropical island.

Let's do some leaf and some palm leaves.

So yes, pirate fairies.

And what do they do? They like the story skies and the moon? Okay.

So when pirate fairies see the moon, what do they do? Do they sing? Panda says they dance.

Can they sing and dance? Yeah.

Let's hope that.

Pirate fairies they look at the moon and go, We're fairy pirates some we love the moon.

We're fairy pirates fairy and we love the moon.

Something like that.

We can work on the song later.

Now in the King and the moon, the King singing upset the monkey.

What can happen this time? Can we have one island? Can we have seals, turtles, crabs? Super crab.

And maybe, oh could one of the pirate fairies accidentally stand on one of the, one of his feet.

Let's have it going.

Crab eyes.

Let's do some legs.

They scuttled up the crabs.

Crab is a good idea.

This is very different, but also very similar.

So we're changing the King and the moon.

Panda says we got claw somewhere.

Oh, you've stood on my foot.

Oh, so the crab doesn't run.

It's scuttles, I like that.

Pirate fairies they stand on a crab.

Let's put an arrow to that bit and an arrow to the next bit.

So in the King and the moon, the monkey threw a stick that scared a mouse, a mouse is small like a crab.

The mouse in the King and the moon, disturbed an elephant.

So we need a bigger animal.

What could we have a bigger animal? Don't use monkey again.

A gorilla, a great big gorilla eating a mango.

Okay.

Gorilla occurred.

Body, big arm going down, arm going up.

Or could it be, could it be the mango and he saw had to go with the eggs, throws the mango in the air.

I'll have to think about what happens with that in a minute.

And some feet.

Yeah.

A great big gorilla.

I'm not brilliant at drawing gorillas.

I need to practise my gorilla drawing.

I like that.

Now what could happen to the mango? Could it fly out to see who would it hit? A shark.

Could hit a shark.

Panda says a whale, a whale or a shark.

What would you choose? Well, when you're the story writer, you can make all the choices.

Can we try a whale? 'Cause it's big.

Think of big animal that might be useful for the story.

Now big blue whale have a band that may be coming down like this.

All have fins.

A big blue whale.

The mango lands on his head, what could he do with his tail? Whale tail splash.

And that would get all the pirate fairies soaking wet water.

Good idea Panda.

And they wouldn't like that.

Would they? Who has got us so wet? They could blame the whale.

Can they? And what would whale say? It wasn't my fault.

The whale would say, it was the mango that landed on my head thrown by a gorilla.

So the pirate fairies could ask the gorilla and he could say, oh it's not my fault.

It was the crab that ran over my foot.

And the crab would say, it's not my fault.

It's your fault.

You pirate fairies because you nearly stood on me when you were dancing and singing that horrible song to the moon.

Now at the end of the King of the moon, the King of the moon still tries to capture the moon.

Doesn't he,? He climbs up a mountain to try and capture it.

What could the pirate fairies do? Pirates.

Panda says they could try and fly up to the moon.

They could try flying up to the moon, but the moon is hard to capture isn't it? Could they try fishing nets to try and catch it.

They could perhaps try and catch its reflection in the sea.

But of course the pirate fairies will never catch the moon.

I think that would work.

We'd have to do quite a bit of work on the story language, but we could still use our word because couldn't we, because every animal would have to explain why it wasn't their fault.

Can I pause the video now? And it's your turn to do some work.

Could you draw a story map and you can use some of the ideas in this story map, or you could change some of the animals.

If you had fairy pirates, what animals could you have in the story that would make something happen that got them wet, something like that.

Or you could just try to remember this one and do the story map.

Whatever happens I think we'll have to work with this one together.

But why don't you have some thinking creative time now and draw your own story map.

Time to work.

Good luck.

So how did you get on with your story maps? Did you use some of the ideas that Panda and I used? I bet you had some of your own too.

Remember you can share your work with us.

We love seeing your story maps here at the Oak Academy.

Ask your teachers and carers, and they will know how to share your work because we want to see it.

Anyway we thought it will be a good idea to sing ourselves out of this session because we know an old pirate song that we could recycle to turn into pirate fairies.

It goes something like this.

♪ What shall we do with the pirate fairies ♪ ♪ What shall we do with the pirate fairies ♪ ♪ What shall we do with the pirate fairies ♪ ♪ Singing to the moon ♪ ♪ Ask them nicely to be quiet ♪ ♪ Ask them nicely to be quiet ♪ ♪ Ask them nicely to be quiet ♪ ♪ Singing to the moon ♪ But what if they're not quiet? ♪ Ask a whale to flick his tail ♪ ♪ Ask a whale to flick his tail ♪ ♪ Ask a whale to flick his tail ♪ ♪ Get those pirates wet ♪ ♪ What shall we do with the pirate fairies ♪ ♪ What shall we do with the pirate fairies ♪ ♪ What shall we do with the pirate fairies ♪ ♪ Singing to the moon ♪ Share your story maps with somebody you know and Panda and I we look forward to seeing you in the next session soon.
