Hello, I'm Adam, and this is Panda.

We are on unit six, lesson three, using the story, "The King and the Moon." Let's see what's on the agenda today.

So for our warmup today, we're going to learn and sing the "Why, Because" song, and think about why because is such a brilliant word.

After that, we're going to play a word game, and you've got to see if you can guess the characters and things that I'm describing in the story.

And then the big challenge of the lesson is to step out the story of "The King and the Moon." So quite a lot to do.

Let's think about the word because.

So for our warmup today, Panda and I thought we'd teach you the verses, as well as the chorus for the "Why, Because" song.

But before we do, we just wanted to say how much we love the word because.

We love the word because when we use it.

We can explain things and express how we feel, like if someone says, why are you sad? You can say, because I don't feel very well.

Or why are you excited? Because grandma and grandpa are coming 'round today.

And in the story, the word because is really important because the characters each have to explain why it wasn't their fault.

Why did you throw those eggs in my face? Because I was scared by an elephant.

Why did you scurry and climb up an elephant's back? "Because I was scared by a banana," said the mouse.

Because a really important word, so here is the "Why, Because" song.

So for those of you that don't know it, the verses go- ♪ We know a really useful word ♪ Would you like to sing that? ♪ We know a really useful word ♪ ♪ It's super clever ♪ ♪ Have you heard ♪ ♪ It's super clever ♪ ♪ Have you heard ♪ Good.

The "Why, Because" song, here we go.

Time for a word game.

We're over here.

The screen won't be blue for very long.

We're going to play a word game now, and your job is to guess what it is that we're thinking about.

So the first one is a word, and it's a word you can use to answer questions that start with why, like, why are you looking excited? Because I'm going to see my granny, or because I'm going to play football.

And it's a word that all the characters in the story do use.

Very powerful word.

The next one, the character says, "It was not my fault, because a mouse ran up my tail." It was the elephant in the story.

The next character says, "It wasn't my fault, it's because I was startled by an elephant." Who said that? It was the girl in the story.

The next character said, "It was not my fault, it was a banana, it fell on my head." It was the mouse.

The next character said, "It was not my fault, because I was trying to get your attention because of your terrible singing." Who said that? The monkey.

This next thing is a thing.

What did the monkey throw? A banana.

A banana that landed on the head of a little mouse.

The next one is an important thing in the story.

The monkey was sitting in it, and behind it you could see it.

Two things, the tree and the moon.

Can you see the moon through the trees? The next one.

Well, this next one was a very important character in the story, and he liked singing to the moon because he wanted it.

The King.

And where did the King live? He lived in a palace.

And if you put all those things together, it turns into a story map.

Excuse my picture, just here.

So this is the story of "The King and the Moon." And we are going to step through this story today.

So remember, it starts here, once upon a time, there was a King who lived in a palace, and the King had everything he needed except the moon.

And he would sing to the moon.

♪ I love you, Moon ♪ ♪ You make me swoon ♪ Up in the tree, the monkey said, "Please stop, King.

I don't like your singing." And he threw a banana, and it hit a little mouse in the head.

The mouse scampered and scampered, and ran up the tail of an elephant, who charged through the town and scared a little girl, and she threw eggs into the face of the King.

Now this is one of those maps that has to go backwards, because it's an explanation map.

So the King says, "Why did you do it?" Follow the red arrows back.

She says, "It wasn't my fault.

An elephant scared me." "Wasn't me," said the elephant.

"Because I was scared by a mouse." "Wasn't me," said the mouse.

"Because I was scared by a banana thrown by a monkey." "Wasn't me," said the monkey sitting in his tree.

"It was your singing." And so finally the King thinks, well, yes, I have got egg on my face, but I do love the moon.

And he climbs the mountain, and stands on boxes, and tries to reach the moon.

We are now going to try and step that story.

Don't worry, I'll show you what to do.

So you can see that I've chosen to stand up to step the story.

Could I ask you just to watch for a moment before you join in, and I'm going to show you how to step the first half? Now, when I step a story, I imagine around me there are some stepping stones, and each time I put my foot on a stepping stone, I'm going to say something and do something that helps me remember the story.

So the first time I step this story, I do it like this.

Once upon a time, there was a King who lived in a palace, and he loved the moon.

"I love you, moon." In a tree, there was a monkey.

Stop singing.

The monkey threw a banana.

The banana scared a mouse.

The mouse scared an elephant.

The elephant scared a girl, who threw eggs.

Splat, splat, splat, splat, splat, splat, splat.

"Who threw the eggs?" Would you like to do that with me? I invite you to stand up, if you're able to.

It's fun to stand up, and if you're able to, and if not, just watch and join in in your own way.

So are you ready? We'll do it together.

So our first step, once upon a time, there was a King.

Shall we give him a fancy hat? And he loved the moon.

"I love you, moon." In a tree, there was a monkey.

Show me your monkeys.

Good.

The monkey threw a banana.

The banana scared the mouse.

The mouse scared an elephant, and the elephant scared a girl, who threw the eggs.

Splat, splat, splat, splat, splat, on the King's head.

"Who threw the eggs?" I'm going to pause the video now.

And my challenge to you, could you do that? Could you try that now? And when you're finished, I'll show you what we will step next.

Okay, time for work.

How are you getting on? Now we're onto the because bit of the story.

Are you ready? So you could do this with me if you wanted to, if you're already standing.

Here we go.

So the King says, "Who threw the eggs?" It was the girl.

"It was not my fault, I was scared by the elephant." "It was not my fault," said the elephant.

"Because I was scared by the mouse." "It was not my fault," said the mouse.

"Because I was scared by a banana thrown by a monkey." "It was not my fault," said the monkey.

"Because I was trying to stop your singing." Hmm.

"The moon, I want the moon." And the King climbed the mountain, and tried to reach the moon.

Should we do it one more time? And then that's the whole story.

This is the tricky bit where we have to use the word because.

So shall we do all the arguments, starting with the girl? So the girl says, "It was not me, because I was scared by the elephant." Good.

"It was not me," said the elephant.

"Because I was scared by the mouse." "It was not me," said the mouse.

"'Cause I was scared by the banana thrown by a monkey." "It was not me," said the monkey.

"Because I was trying to stop your horrible singing." "Oh," said the King.

And he climbed a mountain, and tried to reach the moon.

Did you try that bit by yourself? Starting with the girl, and what she says, "It was not me, because." Have a go.

I'm going to pause the video again, and this is the big challenge.

Good luck.

So how are you getting on? It's a tricky story, isn't it? Are you starting to use the word because? What have we done today? Well, we sang the "Why, Because" song, we played a word game, we looked at the word because, and then I used it to describe each of the characters by what they said, and after that, you stepped the story in two halves.

Our challenge to you is to show your stepping to somebody.

And we look forward to seeing you in the next session where we'll be acting out the story, so by lesson five, you'll be able to tell it to your talk teddies.

Until then, bye-bye.
