Hi everyone, and welcome to lesson three in our units on the sweet talking potato.

My name is Miss Frost and it's so good to see so many of you back today.

If you are new, you are in for a treat because we are going to read and tell a lovely story.

I'm really, really happy today because it is a lovely sunny day where I am.

I wonder what the weather's like where you are.

I really hope that we have a really good lesson today and have lots of fun.

Let's see what we're going to be doing.

In today's lesson you're going to need three things.

If you were in our lesson two of this unit, you were going to need your story map.

If you did not join in for lesson two don't worry, because you can use my story map.

I'll put it up on the screen so that you can see it.

You're also going to need your Teddy talk partner and you're going to need your brains.

So if you need to go and find yourself your story map from lesson two, or you need to get yourself a Teddy talk partner.

And when you are ready, press the play button.

In today's lesson, we're going to start off by playing a game.

Then we're going to have a go at singing a song.

We are going to step the story.

And then we are going to join in telling the story.

If you haven't done stepping before, don't worry.

I will explain exactly what we're going to be doing.

And you can join in with me.

We're going to start off by playing a game.

And our game today is called What's the lie.

So with my Teddy talk partner, I am going to tell him three things.

Ted is then going to see how well he knows me.

And he's going to see if he can guess what the lie is.

So if you want to, you can play along at home and you can see if you can find that something new about me today.

So three statements are going to come up on your screen.

But one of them is not true.

One of them is a lie.

I made it up.

So I'm going to read out the statements for you.

And we're going to see if you can help Ted work out which one is a lie.

So the first sentence says, I have a guinea pig.

I have a guinea pig.

I wonder If I have a guinea pig.

The next statement says I have purple hair.

Do I have purple hair? The next statement says my favourite flower is a sunflower.

So I wonder which of these is the lie.

Teddy, have you got the answer? Let's see if you were right.

So do I have a guinea pig? Yes I do, here is a little picture of my Guinea pig.

Do I have purple hair? No, it's a lie.

Is my favourite flower a sunflower? Yes it is.

I love sunflowers because they are bright and yellow and happy.

So well done if you guessed my lie, I want that's a game that we can play later on as well.

Now we're going to have a go at a singing a new song.

And the tune of this song, you might know, you might have heard it before.

So let's see if you can sing along.

I'm going to sing a line and I would like you to have a go singing it back to me.

♪ One sweet potato ♪ ♪ One sweet potato ♪ ♪ said hands off ♪ ♪ said hands off ♪ ♪ The farmer screamed and he ran away ♪ ♪ The farmer screamed and he ran away.

♪ ♪ He ran and he ran on such a hot day.

♪ ♪ He ran and he ran on such a hot day ♪ ♪ Until he came to the market place ♪ ♪ Until he came to the markets place.

♪ ♪ One sweet potato ♪ ♪ One sweet potato.

♪ Well done, give yourself a round of applause.

If you had a go at joining in with our song today.

So that is a new song that we haven't heard before.

So well done and I really, really hope you enjoyed singing it with us.

Next up, we're going to have a go at stepping the story.

Now, if you haven't done stepping before, don't worry.

Because stepping is when we break down our story into little trunks.

So we can get all the way from the beginning of the story to the end of the story.

So we're going to have a look at our story maps, or you can use my story map.

And we are going to have a go and get it all the way from the beginning.

Across every single step, all the way to the end.

Now to do this, you just need somewhere where you can stand up.

So I'm going to have a go and get into my place where I can stand up, you ready? We'll meet you there.

Okay, now I've got a little bit more space.

We're ready to start stepping.

We're going to start right at the beginning of our story map.

And we're going to use our story map to come up with a word for every picture.

So beginning of the story, what is happening? who is there? This is the farmer.

So, how does the farmer feel? What's the farmer's problem? What is he doing? He's hungry, well remembered.

If you remembered that.

So we could choose to say farmer, or we could choose to say hungry.

Now, if you want to choose a different word to me, that's absolutely fine.

In a minute, you're going to have the chance to press pause on your screen and have a go at coming up with your own words, for all of these picture.

So I think I'm going to choose hungry for the first picture.

So my first word is hungry.

Let's look at the next picture.

What is this? What's happened next? This is the potato.

And what did the potato say, "hands off." So I think the word that I'm going to pick, it could be potato.

It could be hands off.

It could be spoke.

Think about what words you might like to choose.

I'm going to choose hands off because I think that will really remind me what happened in the story.

I'm remembering those special words that he said.

So we have got hungry and hands off.

Our next picture.

What is happening here? The dog then spoke.

Now the dog said a long sentence.

And when we're stepping, we want to keep it really short just to help us remember.

So we could say dog.

We could say spoke.

You might have a different idea.

You can add that into your stepping later.

I think I'm going to choose, Dog.

So we have got hungry, hands off, dog.

Next, what did the farmer do? Can you tell your screen what happened? The farmer ran and ran as fast as his legs would carry him.

We could say, how he felt so we can say, how do you think the farmer felt? He was scared.

You might want to say what he was doing, which will really, really help you remember what happens in the story.

He ran, so I think I will say run.

The farmer ran.

Next stop, who did the farmer meet? What happened next? He met the man selling chickens.

So we could have man, chickens or where was the farmer? He was in the marketplace.

So we could have market.

I think I'm going to go with chickens.

Because that will really help me remember the next animal that spoke in the story.

And then I'm going to use the same word as the last time the farmer ran and ran as fast as his legs would carry him.

I'm going to use the word run Next, what happened? The farmer came to the shop.

Can you remember what kind of shop it was? It was a Baker's shop, where he met the Baker.

Who was selling loaves of bread.

And what spoke in the Baker's shop.

It was the loaf of bread.

So we could have Baker, loaf of bread or spoke.

I'm going to go with loaf of bread.

So I'm just going to shorten that and say loaf.

Ran, who did he run and run as fast as he could to? The King, where was he? He was at the palace.

And what did the King say? The King told him to get out.

So we could say King.

We could say palace or we could say get out.

I am going to choose to say, get out.

And then last over all.

What was the ending of our story? What's happened after the King told the farmer to get out? The King was amazed because the throne then spoke to the King.

So we could say amazed, throne or spoke.

I think I'm going to go with amazed.

But remember all of my ideas, you don't have to use.

You can choose your own.

Now we need to get up and we're going to have a go stepping all of those words that we've just decided.

Are you ready to step our words? I've got my story map ready.

You can see the story map on the screen.

And we're going to have a go at same as actions.

Now, I don't have very much space here, but every time I go to the next stepping stone in the story, I'm going to take a step.

You might be able to take an actual step forwards.

So you can join in with me, now let's have a go at doing it together.

Hungry, hands off, dog, run, chicken, run, loaf, run, King, throne.

And there, we have got all the way from the beginning of our story, right through to the end.

Well done, now we're going to have a go at adding some actions on today's pictures.

So the first step we take is the farmer.

And we say he is hungry.

Can you have a go at showing your screen what hungry might look like.

When you are feeling hungry what happens? My tummy rumbles.

So maybe we could do a grumbly tummy to show that we are hungry.

You might want to come up with a different action to show that you're hungry.

You might want to rub your tummy to show you that you're hungry.

You might want to do a sad face.

You can decide what you want to do.

But I'm going to do hungry.

Next up, we had the potato and he said, "hands off." So what could we do? Can you show your screen now your idea for what we could do for hands off? How can we do an action for that? There's lots and lots of different ideas out there.

But I think I'm going to do hands off.

Just like we did when we told the story before.

Our next picture on the story map was dog.

So dog, dogs have got tails that wag.

They have got ears is that flap.

They have got shiny noses.

I'm going to have a go at doing, dog.

With waggly ears.

Next off, we have got run.

We could run.

We can put our knees up and run on the spot because we are standing up now.

You could be hot and out of breath.

I'm going to choose to run with my arms as fast as I can so I can get them going really fast.

Just like the farmer.

What action did you do to show chicken? You remember, you might want to choose a different one to me.

But I am going to do a chicken with flapping arms. Next off, we have run again.

So I'm going to use the same action.

Then who does the farmer meet next? Our next word was the loaf of bread.

We could be holding the loaf.

Next off, the farmer was scared again.

And he was running, our word was run.

Then he met the King.

We had to go ask some actions for King before.

The King could be wearing a Cape.

He might be wearing a crown.

I'm going to go with the King is wearing the crown to remind me.

And last of all, throne.

Our throne is a chair for sitting down.

So we could make a chair with our hands.

We could pretend to sit down.

What would you like to do? I think I am going to pretend to sit down on the throne because I am a king.

Okay, I think we are ready to have a go at saying our words and doing our actions together.

Are you ready to join in if you like to? Hungry, hands off, dog, run, chicken, run, loaf, run, king, get out, throne.

And there we've got it.

You have come to the end of our story.

Okay, this time I'm going to do our stepping map, but I am not going to use any words.

I wonder if you could fill in the words for me while I do the actions.

Let's see if you can guess what the words are or remember from just now.

Let's have a go, You ready? Well done, if you joined in with all of those actions.

We've had a go at stepping the story together.

And now it's going to be your turn to have a go at doing it by yourself.

I've put a picture of the story map that we made together in lesson two on your screen.

And you can use that to help you retell the story.

What I'd like you to do, is add one word and one action to each picture.

And remember to do a step in between each one.

If you're feeling a little bit unsure, you can always rewind the video back to just before we started doing the stepping together.

And you can watch it again.
