Hello everyone, it's Miss Doherty.

Today, we're going to mime the moods in the story.

We've spoken lots about the moods of the story, the way the characters are feeling or the way we feel when we hear the story.

Do you know what mime means? Miming is when we act without using our words, we just use our facial expressions or our bodies or our hand gestures to show mood.

So, that is what we're going to be exploring in today's lesson.

In this lesson you'll need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

Pause the video now, while you go and get those things ready.

In today's lesson we'll start, as we always do, by singing a nursery rhyme.

Then we'll speak the story and then we'll mime the moods of the story.

I hope you're ready.

Today's nursery rhyme is Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

Get your rowing paddles ready.

Do you row with paddles? I think you do.

♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the stream ♪ ♪ Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily ♪ ♪ Life is but a dream ♪ ♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the stream ♪ ♪ If you see a crocodile ♪ ♪ Don't forget to scream ♪ ♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the stream ♪ ♪ Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily ♪ ♪ Life is but a dream ♪ ♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the stream ♪ ♪ If you see a lion there ♪ ♪ Don't forget to roar ♪ ♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the stream ♪ ♪ If you see a tiny mouse ♪ ♪ Don't forget to squeak ♪ ♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the river ♪ ♪ If you see a polar bear ♪ ♪ Don't forget so shiver ♪ ♪ Row, row, row your boat ♪ ♪ Gently down the stream ♪ ♪ Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily ♪ ♪ Life is but a dream ♪ Thank you for singing with me.

We're going to tell the story of the three little pigs now.

Don't worry, if you haven't been in our earlier lessons.

I'll speak it first and then it will be your turn.

Once there were three little pigs, who lived at home with their mom.

One day their mom said off you go and build your own houses.

Make sure that they're strong.

The first little pig build their house of straw.

One day along came a wolf and said little pig, little big, let me come in.

Not by the hair of my chinny, chin, chin.

Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down.

So the wolf huffed and he puffed.

And he blew the house down and he ate up the little pig.

The second little big had build their house of wood.

One day along came a wolf and said little pig, little pig, let me come in.

Not by the hair of my chinny, chin, chin.

Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down.

So the wolf huffed and he puffed.

And he blew the house down and he ate up the little pig.

The third little big had build their house out of bricks.

One day along came a wolf and said little pig, little pig, let me come in.

Not by the hair of my chinny, chin, chin.

Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down.

So, the wolf huffed and he puffed.

But he couldn't blow the house down.

So, the wolf went home and the little pig was glad.

Now, I would like you to tell the story yourself.

You might know it off by heart or you might need to use the story map on the screen or one you have from an earlier lesson to help remind you.

Pause the video now, while you tell the story and resume, once you're finished.

Now, we're going to create a mood map.

A mood map? Yes, a mood map.

Our mood map is going to be thinking about the moods in our story map.

As the story progresses, how the characters are feeling.

So, right at the beginning, the three little pigs, when mommy says off you go, build your own house and make sure it's strong.

How are they feeling? How will you feel, when you get your own house? I felt a little bit nervous, but mainly I felt excited.

So I'm going to draw a smiley face.

And to show that it's exciting, I'm going to draw a party hat to show how exciting it is.

So that's the first emotion.

Now, we come to the first little pig building his house of straw.

And the wolf comes and the wolf says little pig, little pig, let me come in.

Why does the wolf say that? We've spoken about how the wolf might be feeling hungry.

Mightn't they, wolf might be feeling hungry.

So let's draw a hungry face.

When we're hungry, we're not particularly happy or I'm not particularly happy, when I'm hungry.

So, the wolf is feeling hungry.

And the little pig is feeling really scared.

The little big is feeling really scared.

And then the wolf huffs and he puffs, he blows the house down and he gobbles up the little pig.

So, he might be feeling a bit better now.

He might be feeling satisfied.

Although, we do know that he still wants to carry on eating, don't we? Because he goes to the second little pig's house, build of wood, and the second little pig is also very scared by the wolf huffing and puffing before the little pig is eaten.

And finally he comes to the third pig's house.

And the third pig, we know, is also feeling scared and says the same thing as his brothers, not by the hair of my chinny, chin, chin.

And then the wolf huffs and he puffs and he is really confused.

He is really confused, isn't he? What can we do for confused? We can do some confused eyebrows.

The wolf is really confused.

The wolf feels really, very confused.

So, we felt excited, hungry, scared, satisfied, scared, scared, confused and finally the little pig feels glad.

We know, that the little pig feels so glad right at the end, don't we? So, we've gone from feeling excited to scared, no, to hungry, to scared, to satisfied, to scared, to more scared, to confused, to glad.

And those are the moods of the story.

Now, I would like you to have a go at mapping the moods yourself.

You might use a different colour and map onto your old story map or you might choose tho create a new map just for the moods.

I find, that that can be a little bit clearer to see.

Pause the video now, while you map the moods.

Now, you should all have a mood map, a little like mine, in front of you.

The next thing we're going to do is we're going to mime the moods.

Who can remember what I said miming is? Miming is when we don't use any words to act out emotions.

We just use our face or our bodies or hand movements, like gestures.

Let's have a think, what mime movement could show us the mood excited, the mood of excitement? That looked excited? Okay, our first mood.

And then hungry.

So, we go.

For scared.

And then satisfied.

That's what I look like after my food.

And scared again.

And scared again.

Confused.

Glad.

I'm going to try and do those all together.

So, I'm going to look at the map and follow it and do each of the moods just in mime, no talking at all.

There, I've mimed the moods in the story.

Now it's your turn.

Pause the video and use your map or my map on the screen to mime each of the moods.

Remember, when we're miming, we're showing our emotion, but we're not talking at all.

Enjoy! Thank you so much for all of your hard work today.

I have loved miming with you.

See you again next time Bye, bye!.
