Hi, I'm Ms. Davies, in this lesson we're going to be adding and subtracting two column vectors to give it a resultant vector.

We've been given that A is the column vector nine, negative three.

B is negative two, one, and C is zero, eight.

We're going to work out two A add B.

This means two multiplied by nine, negative three.

Add negative two, one.

Let's start off by multiplying nine, negative three by two.

This gives us 18, negative six.

If we then add these two column vectors together, it gives us 16, negative five.

Next we're going to work out A subtract four C.

This can be written as nine, negative three, subtract four, multiplied by zero, eight.

Start off by multiplying vector C, to zero, eight by four.

We can then subtract the vectors to give an answer of nine, negative 35.

Finally, going to work out four A add B, subtract three C.

Start off by doing multiplication.

So we need to be following the order of operations.

This gets a final answer of 34, negative 35.

Here are the answers.

Make sure that you're following the order of operations.

You should be completing multiplication before any addition or subtraction.

Here are the answers.

Jilly hasn't multiplied the vertical components by the scaler.

The correct answer is eight, negative three.

That's all for this lesson, thanks for watching.
