Hi team.

I hope you're having a really lovely week so far and I'm super pleased to see you back to join me, Mrs Garrard for another lesson.

The lesson that we're going to do today is we are going to make a birthday cake.

Let me see.

We are going to make a birthday cake.

The learning objective, that's what we're going to do in the lesson, is to manipulate materials to achieve a planned effect.

That means we need to think of an idea what we would like our birthday cake to look like and then make our materials look that way.

So we'll make a plan and then make our birthday cake.

Let's see what we need to do next.

You will need, I've missed one haven't I? I missed one.

First, we will need to gather our resources, then you will listen to the instructions, then you can create your very own birthday cake and then you can share your creation.

Today, I'm going to make my birthday cake out of play dough but you don't have to use play dough, I'm going to show you how I would make a birthday cake from play dough but if you don't have play dough you could use a different material.

You could use some blocks or some Duplo or some stickle bricks.

Got some ideas at the end of the lesson to show you but first I'm going to make my play dough birthday cake.

Let's see.

If you are going to make a play dough birthday cake, this is what you will need.

You will first need some dough.

Then you will need some utensils, maybe some rolling pin, maybe a rolling pin, maybe some cupcake cases, that's something that you could use, then number three, you will need some decorations.

You could use buttons or ribbon or sequins or candles, those are all really great decorations for a birthday cake.

If you don't have any play dough at home, here is a recipe that you could use.

I'll make it bigger on my screen.

You need to have some help from an adult.

You need to have some help from an adult to make play dough because you need to use hot water.

So we'll need to have an adult to help us.

Let's see.

This is how I'm going to make my play dough birthday cake.

First, I'm going to pull off a piece of play dough from a big lump and I'm going to roll it between my palms like this.

I'm going to roll it to make a ball shape.

The next thing I'm going to do, is I'm going to use my palm, that's this part of my hand to squash my play dough flat.

I'm going to do that twice so I have two pieces of flat play dough.

Then I'm going to choose a different colour of play dough to make the icing on top of my cake.

I'm going to pinch off the play dough and then use my fingers to stretch the play dough.

It's a really great way for making your fingers super strong and ready to do some writing.

We will stretch our play dough to make the icing.

The next thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to put all of the pieces together.

I'm going to put all of the pieces together to make my cake.

Can you see? I have one, two, three layers of my cake.

Then I need to decorate my cake and I thought I could put some cherries on top of my cake.

So to make my cherries, I'm going to pull with my pinchy fingers, some pieces of play dough off of a big lump of play dough and then roll them between my fingers to make cherries.

Can you see? I have one, two, three, four, five cherries on my cake.

Then right at the end, I'm going to put some candles on my cake.

Can you see the candles on my cake? I've also got some other ideas of how you could make a birthday cake.

I've made mine from play dough and I've used candles and decorated it with cherries, another friend has made a really big pink birthday cake and used pipe cleaners for their candles.

Another friend, used stickle bricks because they didn't have play dough, no big deal, they chose to use stickle bricks.

They have so many candles on their cake too.

Another friend, down at the bottom used Duplo to make their birthday cake.

They've used lots of different colours to make different layers on their cake and they've even added a candle on the top.

That's something that you could do if you don't have any play dough.

No big deal, you can just use something different.

If you don't have any construction materials, you could draw a picture of a birthday cake.

I wonder what colour icing you will add.

I wonder if you'll put some chocolates on the top.

Maybe you'll put some fruits, some strawberries, I love strawberry cake.

Maybe you could put some strawberries on the top.

I really can't wait to see your creations.

Really looking forward to seeing the pictures or the models that you make and I'll be really looking forward to seeing your fabulous creations.

Goodbye for now now.
