Hi team, and welcome back to another lesson with me, Mrs. Garrard.

Today we are going to construct a spaceship or a rocket.

Let's get started.

The first thing we're going to think about is what is a spaceship? What is a rocket? Then we'll gather some resources, we'll make our creations, and then we'll share them with our families at home, and maybe even with me on Twitter, if you ask your parent or carer's permission.

They could help you to add a picture to Twitter.

Then I'll get to see it.

For today's lesson, you will need your listening ears so that you can listen to my instructions.

You'll need some construction materials, you might like to choose wooden bricks or Lego, or even Stickle Bricks, or maybe you'll choose junk modelling resources.

I've used a paper bowl and a yoghourt pot with some tape and some glue, but you could choose other resources from your recycling bin.

That would work too.

So, first of all, let's think about, what is a spaceship? A space ship travels through space and transports people or cargo.

It can be used for more than one journey.

I have some pictures on the screen of spaceships.

What is a rocket? Hmm, rockets are something a little bit different.

A rocket is a launch vehicle and can only be used once.

So a rocket helps to launch a spacecraft into space.

Can only be used once.

I wonder, will you choose to construct a rocket or a spaceship? Have a think about that.

You'll have to use different resources and different shapes to make the different types of vehicle, a spaceship or a rocket.

Pause the video now, and go and gather some resources.

You could find your construction materials, or maybe you'll choose to gather some junk modelling materials.

Come back when you're ready.

Great, now you're back.

That must mean you're ready.

So the first thing we're going to look at is how to make a rocket.

So if you would like to make a rocket, watch this video.

Here we go.

So I've chosen to make my rocket out of Stickle Bricks.

I have got three long Stickle Bricks, that I'm going to put on the bottom.

It looks a little bit like the fire that shoots out the bottom of a rocket.

We're having to use my strong fingers to turn the Stickle Bricks and fix them together.

There we go.

And then finally, I'm going to use a triangle for the cone shape at the top of the rocket.

This is a really quick and simple way to make a rocket.

Could use Stickle Bricks just like I did, or perhaps you would like to use some wooden blocks.

I'm going to arrange my wooden blocks.

These are going to be the pieces that look a little bit like the flames at the bottom.

I'm going to stack some square blocks on top to make the body of my rocket.

And then once again, I'm going to use a triangle shape to make the cone at the top.

Those are two different ways that you could choose to make a rocket.

But if you don't want to make a rocket, then maybe you would like to make a spaceship.

Let's watch this video to see how I make a spaceship.

For the spaceship I use junk modelling resources.

I used two bowls and some tape, and some paint.

And a yoghourt pot.

Let's see how I did it.

So I found my two paper bowls and put them on top of each other to make the shape of the spaceship.

And then I use some masking tape to stick them together.

I was very careful to add lots of tape to make sure that my bowls stay stuck together.

And once again, I used masking tape because you can paint over masking tape.

Putting it all around the edge.

Oh, that was my dog coming down in the background.

Did you see him? Put a little bit more tape on.

Now my plates, or bowls should I say, are securely attached together.

I've got a little yoghourt pot that I'm going to put on the top.

I found it really tricky to work out how I could stick this together.

So I tried some different ways to see which worked best.

First of all, I put some long pieces around the edge, but I decided that wasn't very secure.

So I tried again.

It's okay to try different ways to see which works best.

Can you see how I'm trying to work out which way to put it? And in the end, I decide to put little pieces around the edge.

Using my fingers to smooth the tape down.

Maybe one more piece will fix it.

Let's see.

Or two more pieces.

The next thing I'm going to do is paint my shape, my spaceship shape.

I'm going to use grey.

I'm going to cover the whole surface of my bowl, the bottom and the top, with grey paint.

When it's dry, mine is not quite dry, 'cause I was a little bit impatient, I'm going to use some blue and some green paint to put some dots around the outside of my spaceship to make it look a little bit like lights on the spaceship.

Can you see how I've been a little bit impatient and my paint is not quite dry? No big deal.

I bet you can be a little bit more patient and wait until your paint is totally dry before you add your dots for the lights.

I'm using the end of a paintbrush.

I'm not using the bristles.

I'm using the hard end of the paintbrush to make the dots.

Some blue ones first, and then some green ones.

They're supposed to look a little bit like the lights on a spaceship.

That's how I made my spaceship.

Let's see, oh, it's even flying.

Can you see in the pictures, there are three different ways that you could choose to make either a space rocket or a spaceship? I can't wait to find out what you will choose to use and how you will choose to make your spaceship.

Mine are just some ideas.

I bet you've got some really great ideas of your own.

I can't wait to see the work that you create.

See you again soon guys.
