Hi everyone.

I'm Ms. Boyd.

And I'll be your music teacher today.

By the end of today's lesson, you'll be able to create different pitches using voice percussion.

You'll be able to follow the pitch of a piece of music and you'll get to identify the pitch of different objects around your home.

But before we get started, should we begin with a hello song? ♪ Off we go, hello, hello ♪ ♪ It's good to see you, hello, hello ♪ ♪ It's good to see you ♪ ♪ I must say you've made my day ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, hello ♪ So, how can you create high and low pitches? Now pitch is simply how high or how low a sound is.

We can create sounds with lots of different instruments, including ourselves.

For this first activity, I would like you to listen to some body percussion.

I'm going to create some music just using my body.

Can you tell the difference between the high and the low pitch sounds? ♪ Ding ♪ ♪ Ding, ding ♪ ♪ Ding ♪ ♪ Ding, ding ♪ What do you think? Which body percussion sound did I make that was quite low pitched? That's right.

I use my chest to create a really basic sound there.

And then I use my mouth to create a ♪ Ding ♪ sound which is very, ♪ Ding ♪ high pitched.

Great job.

Now I want you to pause this video.

Have a go at creating a low and a high pitched sound using just body percussion and your voice.

Pause this video for five minutes.

I would like you to go and use your voice and your body percussion to create a high and a low pitched musical pattern.

Now, as well as instruments and body percussion and our voices, there are objects all around us, but if you tap them, have their own pitches too.

Have a listen to this.

Can you hear the pitch of that pan? Sauce pans can be great musical instruments if you're allowed to play on them.

The bigger they are, the lower the pitch that they create.

And the smaller they are, the higher the pitch that they create.

Have a think.

What other instruments around your home have different pitches? Pause the video now and go and find two different objects that you can use to create different pitches.

Make sure you ask an adult first.

Did you have fun creating those high and low pitches with your object? Good.

Don't get rid of them yet.

We're going to still use these objects for this next activity.

Now, have a look at this piece of music.

The dots on the page get higher and lower.

For this next activity, we are going to use our two different objects to create high and low pitches in this song.

First of all, I'm going to sing through it.

And the second time, we'll play along with our high and low pitched objects.

You ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Cobbler, cobbler, mend my shoe ♪ ♪ Get it done by half passed two ♪ ♪ Half passed two is far too late ♪ ♪ Get it done by half passed eight ♪ Can you see there, you have the, ♪ Da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da ♪ those two high and low pitches? ♪ Da da ♪ Low pitch.

♪ Da da ♪ Okay? With our household objects, I would like you to try and create the same musical pattern.

If you've got one object that's quite high, use that one for the first note and then use your other instrument to create the lower pitch.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Cobbler, cobbler mend my shoe ♪ ♪ Get it done by half passed two ♪ ♪ Half passed two is far too late ♪ ♪ Get it done by half passed eight ♪ How was that? I hope you're not making too much noise at home.

It's really tricky following the pitch of a piece of music, isn't it? But the more we practise, the more we can get there.

Let's have another go doing that together.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Cobbler, cobbler, mend my shoe ♪ ♪ Get it done by half passed two ♪ ♪ Half passed two is far too late ♪ ♪ Get it done by half passed eight ♪ That's the end of our lesson today, but well done for exploring those high and low pitches.

You were able to create different pitches using voice percussion.

You were able to follow the pitch of a piece of music, and you were able to find some objects around your home that could recreate high and low pitches.

Great work.

But before we go we have to say goodbye properly with our goodbye song.

Are you ready? ♪ Off we go, goodbye, goodbye ♪ ♪ It's time to go now ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye ♪ ♪ It's time to go now ♪ ♪ I must say you've made my day ♪ ♪ Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye ♪ If you'd like to share some of the music we've made together today, feel free to ask your parent or carer to share your work on social media.
