Hello and welcome to this lesson on Congruence, with me Miss Oreyomi.

For today's lesson you'll be needing a paper and a pen, or something that you can write on and with.

If you need to put your phone on silence to avoid distraction, I would advise you to do so.

If you can also put yourself in a space with less noise and distractions.

With distraction for the duration of this lesson then again please do so.

If at any point during this lesson, you feel like you need to pause the video just so you can further understand it or take longer to understand it then again, pause the video.

If you need to rewind feel free to do so.

When I tell you to pause the video to attempt a task that is for your own good.

So it would it will be good if you do pause the video and attempt the task.

So now, pause the video if you need to go get your equipment or if you need to put yourself in a space with less noise and distraction and press resume to continue with the lesson.

Okay, for your try this task.

Which one of these shapes is the odd one out? And can you find a reason that each one is the odd one out? So pause the video now and attempt this task.

And then once you're done press play to resume the lesson.

Okay, the first one that popped to my head was that this triangle is the odd one out.

Firstly, because it is not a quadrilateral.

So this is a three sided shape and the rest of all four sided shapes.

Another thing I thought was this shape here and this shape here are odd, to these three shapes because the perimeter of these three shapes are is 12.

And the perimeter of these two shapes of 16.

Which ones did you come up with? So if I asked you the question, which shape is congruent to A? Now I see my shape A here and I'm telling you that E is congruent to A.

So E is congruent to A.

Now, if I've said E is congruent to A, which two other shapes are also congruent to each other? I could say C, and D, are congruent.

From these two examples, can you come up with a definition for what congruent mean or what congruent shapes are? Well, I've said and I'm going to read this for you take some time to process what I'm saying.

Congruent shapes have the same shape and size.

They may have been rotated.

For example, A and E have been rotated, they may have been moved or reflected.

As long as the shapes have the same size and angle, then they are congruent.

So the key word here is essentially this.

They have the same shape and size.

Based on this definition, then.

Find a shape that is congruent to A? Find a shape that is congruent to A? And find another pair of congruent shape? So pause the video now and attempt these two questions and press resume when you're ready to progress with the lesson.

Okay, a shape that is congruent to A would be G, wouldn't it? Cause I'm going one, two, three and then three along and three to the left one, two, three and it's the same here one, two, three and one, two, three.

So the shapes may have been flipped or rotated, but they are still congruent to each other.

So A is or rather G is congruent to A.

So I could say G is congruent to A.

Okay, find another pair of congruent shape then.

Well, hopefully you said D and I, because D and I have the same size and angle.

The same shape, the same size and the same angle.

Okay, it is now time for your independent task.

I wonder how you found the questions? I quite I quite enjoyed answering them as I thought they were quite fun.

Congruence is quite a fun topic, identify first question, two pairs of congruent shapes from the options below.

Well, if I am looking at B, so I've got one, two, two, three, four one, two, two, three, four.

So I could say B, and F are congruent.

Another I could say is one, two, one, two, three one, two, one, two, three.

So E and G are also congruent.

Next one, then the grid shows eight shapes.

A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H.

Write down the letters of the shapes that are congruent to shape A, I wrote, I'm choosing G, C and B.

Do you agree? Cause they are the ones that have the same size and the same shape.

And they may have been rotated or flipped, or put in a different position.

But they're still the same they're still congruent to shape A.

So B, C, and G are congruent to shape A.

Draw two more shapes that will be congruent to F.

So if I know that F has got one, two, and then two along as well.

So I could go one, two, there, there, and there.

So that's one shape that is congruent to F.

I could do the same up here.

Go along twice.

And connected lycett.

Okay, you explore task how many other triangles are the same as triangle AHE, which is here? How many other triangles are the same as triangle AHE.

And then once you've done that, can you find any other sets of the same shape.

So when I was doing this I saw that triangle JCI, so this one here is the same as GKL.

So that's my example.

How many other can you find any other sets of the same shape? So pause the video now and attempt this task.

Once you're done, press play to carry on with a lesson.

Lovely.

You have now reached the end of today's lesson.

Like I said, I quite enjoyed filming and preparing this lesson and I hope you did too.

Before you go do complete the quiz as you can check your understanding from today's lesson, and until next time, I will see you at the next lesson.

Bye.
