Hi team and welcome back to this week's construction lesson with me, Mrs Garrard.

Now, I know that this week with Miss Hughes, you've been thinking about habitats.

A habitat is a place that an animal or creature lives, and while I was on my daily walk today, I walked through some fields and some woodlands and I wondered what kinds of animals would live there.

I thought, Mmh, there would be lots of little bugs and mini beasts, so I wondered if that's something that we could create today in our construction lesson.

So today, we are going to construct a minibeast.

The learning objective for this lesson is to construct with a purpose in mind.

Remember that means that we think of an idea, and then use our construction materials to make that idea.

So if you think maybe I'll make a spider, then you'll use your construction materials and make a spider.

The first thing we're going to need to do is decide what type of minibeast you will create.

Then we'll need to gather our resources.

You'll need to create your minibeast and then you'll get to share your minibeast.

You can share it with your family at home, and maybe you'll share it with me on Twitter.

To start our task you will need your listening ears.

I'm going to tell you how I make my minibeast.

I'll give you some instructions about how I make my minibeast.

You could choose to follow those instructions, you might choose to make your minibeast in a different way and that's okay.

You'll need your imagination to think about what your minibeast will look like.

And you need your construction resources.

You could use Lego or wooden blocks or Duplo, sticker bricks, if you don't have those resources, that's okay, you could go to the recycling box and find some junk modelling ,like cardboard boxes and tubes and yoga posts they're really great for constructing with.

The first thing we need to do is think about what minibeasts we could create.

You could choose a spider.

If you choose to make a spider, you'll need to make sure that you include eight legs because a spider has eight legs.

If you choose to choose a beetle, you won't need as many legs because beetles just have six legs.

Or you might choose to make a butterfly, a butterfly has two sets of wings and it has antennae and it has some little legs too.

I'm going to share with you a video that I made of how I made my construction.

I wonder if you'll be able to guess what I'm making, watch carefully.

First, I'm using the rectangular block for the body and then I'm going to add a circle for the head.

Now my minibeast has wings oh that's a clue.

I'm going to use a big circle and a small circle to make the wings and my minibeast is symmetrical.

My turn symmetrical your turn symmetrical.

That means they are the same on both sides so I'm using a big circle and a small circle to make another set of wings.

Have you guess what it is yet? Just adding some antennae at the top.

When you know what it is, tell your screen.

Great job you guessed I made a butterfly.

My construction was of a butterfly.

Now, you might choose to make a butterfly just like I did but you could also choose to make something else.

I have also had a go at making a beetle.

My beetle has two semicircles put together to make a circle for its body.

Then it has a smaller circle for his head and then I've used some cotton meals to make his legs and remember, a beetle just has six legs.

If I chose to make a spider, how many legs would I need? Tell the screen? Oh my goodness, you're right you remembered, I would need eight legs to make a spider.

I wonder what you will choose to make.

I have some more ideas you could use some Lego to make a moth just like this one in the picture.

Or you don't have construction materials you could choose junk from the recycling.

I can see that a friend has used a cardboard cheat from the toilet row and some cardboard to make wings to make a butterfly.

They've decorated their butterfly with lots of different coloured pieces of paper.

And another friend has used an egg box carton and some pipe cleaners to make an ant.

The ant has six legs and to and two antennae.

I wonder what you will choose to make.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you choose.

You could share your constructions with me via Twitter, you could ask your adults to add your pictures to Twitter and share them with the #LearnWithOak or the #ONAReception.

That way I get to see all of your wonderful constructions.

I'm super excited to see them and I'm super excited to see you again next week, bye team.
