Good, in this lesson we'll be talking about care for the elderly and vulnerable in society.

And we'll look at views on same-sex parenting and trans issues also.

We're going to start up by a quick recap of the purposes families and we talk about the care for the elderly and the vulnerable.

You remember then that we talked about these five factors and then use, we talked about four factors rather, and we talked about a family as protection for vulnerable members of our society.

And we said families provide a sense of belonging for people.

It gives them a place to know who they are and where they came from.

It also provides a support system in times of need.

It provides protection for the vulnerable and also enables peace for society like create and act as a pattern for the rest of society.

Well done societies develop regularity and order because of families because it acts as a pattern for the rest of society.

Children, elderly and other vulnerable members are.

Care for the elderly and the vulnerable in our society.

You have note that one in five people in our society are over 60 and the office in national statistics says, that 18.

5 million people will be over 60 of age in the year 2025.

And 75% of 75-year olds in the UK have more than one long-term condition, a medical condition.

And A&E attendances by people age 60, increased by two thirds.

Older people are two-thirds of the recipients of care and a social workforce experiences high turnover estimated at 50.

7% and social care failure to meet the need failure to meet the need of people.

In 2017, the social stat is, the total expenditure of adult social care who are aged over 65 was 15.

5 billion.

An 8% reduction since 2010/2011.

So levels of need are rising in social care.

In 2016, one in eight people aged over 65 were estimated to be struggling without all the help needed.

Now in Islam, they are interested in caring for the vulnerable and the elderly in the society.

In Surah 17:23, it says, "And your Lord has commanded." "You shall not be served any but him," "and goodness to your parents." "If either or both of them reach an old age with you," "Say not to them so much as "Ugh" nor chide them" "But speak to them in generous word" And hear that work.

Allah is commanding Muslims that it's really, really important that they care for their parents when they get older and that they don't treat them as if they're a burden.

We're going to talk now what would Christians say about care for the elderly.

You know that Christians care about making sure that the elderly and vulnerable in society are treated well and they're looked after.

This is based in text from 1 Timothy 5:8, which commanders Christians saying, "If anyone does not take care of his relatives," "Especially the members of his own family," "He has denied the faith" "And is even worse than an unbeliever." And therefore it's really, really important for Christians that they care for people who are vulnerable and they care for the elderly in their society.

Especially those who their own family members.

At this point, we're going to try an exam stock question which says, "Explain two religious beliefs "About caring for the vulnerable" "And you can refer to scripture" "Or sacred writings in your answer" Remember I said before in earlier lessons, it's really, really important for you to ask your teacher, which exam what you're sitting, because this question best fits with AQR and XL, and you might be expected to write long answers for explaining lessons for education for WJC.

The question itself is different for LCR as well.

So just be mindful of which exam mode you are doing.

But I want to pause your video at this point and attempt answering this question to explain two religious beliefs about caring for the vulnerable with reference to scripture or sacred writings.

Let's go through a potential response.

To this, you may have said, Most, if not all, Muslims believe that children should care for their parents in old age.

The evidence for this is in the Quran which commands them to be good to their parents if either or both of them reach old age.

And the explanation is therefore, care for the elderly in the family is a duty of the Muslim.

It's in a Quranic verse.

An alternative religious belief is that many Christians believe that refusal to care for parents is refusal to be a Christian.

In the Bible, it says, "If anyone does not take care of his relative," "He has denied the faith." And therefore we can see that these are two different religious beliefs about caring for the vulnerable in society with reference to sacred text.

We also talked about another purpose of the family as it being the basis for society.

And there are five factors we talked about.

Procreation, which is reproducing and having children.

Religious upbringing in different religious beliefs and systems. Education.

Socialisation.

Learning what's acceptable in society.

And of course, creating stability for society as well.

Again, let's try to recall and learn these five factors.
