Hello, everyone.

I'm Miss.

Jadoon, and welcome to today's lesson, all about the cool down corner.

Today, we're going to be talking about feelings and how different people feel and how we respond to them.

Are you ready? Let's get started.

In this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and some colouring pencils.

Pause the video while you go and collect these things.

We're going to start off by looking at how we're feeling today.

Then, Bobby is angry.

Next, how do we deal with anger? After that, we're going to look at Bobby's cool down corner.

And finally, we're going to design a cool down corner of our own.

So, how are you feeling today? Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and think about what's happening inside you.

Hmm.

Pause the video while you do this.

What do people do when they are angry? Some throw tantrums, especially when they're little.

Others act like they're not bothered and they don't care.

Some argue about it.

Others keep it on the inside, but you can tell by their facial expressions that they are mad, because they're frowning or glaring at you.

Others shout out about it and let everybody know, and they say, "Hey, I'm angry! Listen to me!" And others keep it on the inside and get upset about it.

Now, it is okay for you to be angry, as long as you don't take it out on other people and you don't hurt someone's feelings or you don't damage anything.

Grandma! Oh hiya, Bobby! Hi, Grandma.

Grandma, I'm angry! Oh dear, what's the matter? Well, today I was playing in the playground with my favourite toy, Mr. Bunny.

And whilst I was playing with Mr. Bunny, somebody came and snatched him! Right out of my hands! Oh dear me, how rude! Mm-hmm! So you're angry now? I'm very angry, Grandma, and I don't know what to do with my anger.

What should I do, Grandma? I need your advice.

Hmm, I think I can help.

What did Grandma do while Bobby talked about his feelings? Option one, she talked over him.

Option two, she laughed at him.

Option three, she listened to him.

Option four, she ignored him.

Oh, dear Bobby.

I'm so sad to hear that you're angry, but I can help.

Now, when I'm angry, I go to my favourite armchair and I sit down and do some knitting.

That's right, I do some knitting.

Now, when you're angry, you've got to find a place where you can go and cool down.

This could be your bedroom, your book corner, somewhere in your living room where it's nice and quiet.

Make it fluffy, put down some cushions or maybe even just a nice quiet place where you can relax.

You got that, Bobby? Thanks, Grandma.

I'm going to try that.

Good boy.

What should you do when someone is angry? Option one, shout at them.

Option two, listen to them and try to understand their feelings.

Option three, be angry at them too.

Option four, laugh at them.

Next, we're going to look at how to deal with anger.

Here are some techniques and strategies to help you deal with anger.

So, the first thing you could do is rip some paper up.

Normally scrunching and ripping paper helps people to release anger.

It's a bit like using a stress ball.

You could go for a nap.

Now, I love this one.

I love napping.

I always feel like when I wake up from a nap that I feel better about things.

So yeah, go for a nap! Love some bubbles.

Blowing bubbles is always fun.

It's something interesting to look at.

Ooh, bubble wrap.

Ooh, popping bubble wrap is so satisfying, so see if you can get hold of some bubble wrap from any delivery packages that you get.

Write in a diary.

I used to do this when I was a teenager.

Whenever I got angry about something, I'd go and write about it in my diary.

A diary's also good for if you're feeling happy or anxious or worried, or if something exciting happened to you and you want to share it.

Ooh.

Now, this is interesting.

Some people tend to wrap their arms around themselves and squeeze tightly to get their frustration out.

Ooh, another interesting one.

Get a pillow and scream into it.

That way, not everybody hears you.

Just the pillow.

One of the really simple ones, and the most effective things that you could do is talk to someone about your anger.

Talk about why you're angry.

Ooh, and one of my favourites.

Get some plasticine and squish it! Just squish it into all kinds of shapes.

You may even start playing with it eventually, which means that a lot of your anger will have evaporated by that point.

But the number one rule is, do not hurt yourself or others while you are angry.

And so long as you are using these strategies, I think you should be all right.

Now, we're going to look at making Bobby's cool down corner.

Here are two examples of cool down corners.

The first one has some cuddly toys and teddy bears and a book for Bobby to read.

Now if you notice, the cool down corner is in a quiet area of the room.

If you have a quiet area where you are, use that place.

If you don't have a quiet area, you can always find a space that is empty and make a den out of pillows.

The next cool down corner that you can see, it has a lava lamp.

It looks a bit like a fish tank, actually.

And then you've got some cushions on the floor.

You've also got some books there, and then you've got some paint in a plastic wallet that you can squish and have a look at.

And the lights also add to it.

So, this is a really fancy cool down corner.

Yours doesn't have to be like this.

As long as it's comfortable and it is quiet.

If it's not quiet, get some headphones.

If you go out and get some headphones, stick some earbuds in.

But it just needs to be a quiet, calm place.

Now, you're going to design a cool down corner for Bobby.

On the next slide, you will learn about how to do it.

Once you've seen your success criteria, you can pause the video to complete your task.

Resume once you're finished.

Step number one, think.

Think about Bobby's feelings.

How will he feel in the cool down corner? So before you begin your design, think about how he's feeling.

What does he need to help him calm down? Step number two, design.

Use calming pictures and colours.

Some colours that tend to calm people down are greens, blues, yellows, and pastel colours.

Try to keep away from red.

Number three, take a photo of your design and share it with your family and friends.
