Hi friends, it's Miss Molnar here and today we're going to be looking at counting 10 objects reliably today, so that's why I've got my 10 fingers up, and of course, Harold the hedgehog will be here to help us today.

Now, let's see what you're going to need to get ready for today's lesson.

All right, so Harold, what do we need for today's lesson? Well, we are going to need some counting objects, so I'm going to use some cubes, but you might have something else at home, like some Lego pieces or some marbles, or something that your parent or carer says is okay to use.

You're also going to need two 10 frames today.

You can find them in the downloadable resources or you can get a parent or carer to help you draw some.

And finally, you're going to need some number cards all the way up to the number 10 today.

Now, if you can't print them out, that's fine as well, you can also just write the numbers 1 to 10 down on a piece of paper.

All right, pause the video, go get everything you need, and then we can get started on today's lesson.

All right, now, I think we should play a game to get ourselves started today, so we thought that we would pick a number and you would have to try and say what is one less or one fewer than that number.

So, Harold and I will go first, okay, so Harold's going to pick a number and whisper in my ear.

Okay, so Harold said 3, he said the number 3 and I need to say what number is one less or one fewer than 3, okay.

So what's one less than 3? Oh, that's 2, if I had 3 and then one less than 3, that is 2, all right.

Are you ready to have a go now? Okay, so Harold's going to whisper a number in my ear and then we'll work together to try and say what is one less.

Okay, Harold says 5, what number is one less than 5? You can try and use your fingers to help.

If you said that 4 is one less than 5, way to go, friends, well done! All right, shall we try one more? Okay, we're going to get a little bit of a bigger number this time.

Okay, Harold wants to know what is one less than the number 8? Ooh, this is trickier, you might have to use both hands to help you this time.

One less than 8, or what comes before 8? If you said 7, way to go, friends, well done! All right, let's get started on our learning for today.

Okay, so we're going to look at our counting pictures again.

Hm, what objects can you see in the picture? Yeah, there's lots of flowers, there's trees and there's lots of animals, aren't there? Hm, I wonder about how many yellow flowers do you think there are without counting? If you could take a guess, what would you say? Okay, let's find out, let's count the yellow flowers.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Was that close to your guess? Well done.

How many trees are in the picture? You can pause the video if you want to have a count.

All right, let's count together.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, well done.

All right, finally, I think that we should count how many fish there are.

There's quite a lot to them, it might get a little bit mixed up if we aren't very careful because they all look the same colour, so I'm going to put a counter on every fish as we count it.

Are you ready to help me, everyone? Here we go.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, there are 10 fish in the water, well done! When we get to a bigger number like that, when there's lots of them, sometimes we need something to help us keep track.

All right, so you might've guessed that from our 10 fish, that we are speaking about the number 10 today.

Have you met our number 10 before? Well, he is 10 because he has 10 white blocks, and he kind of looks like a 10 frame, doesn't he? Let's count out 10 cubes together.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, well done everyone, okay.

So I've shown 10 cubes on my 10 frame but I want to show it a different way now, are we ready? Oh, that doesn't look any different.

Hm, why doesn't my 10 frame look different when I moved the cubes around? I switched a couple of them around, but it still looks exactly the same as I had it before, what do you think? Well, if you said it's because the 10 frame is full, we can't change it around at all because we've used every space.

We know that it's 10 because every space has a cube, that's why it's also called a 10s frame, because it's made up of 10 spaces.

Okay, we are going to use this picture here to help us do our talk task today.

You might recognise this picture because there are lots of familiar songs in this picture.

I don't know if you've heard about the cow jumping over the moon, have you heard that expression before? Or the cat with the fiddle? Well done.

Maybe you've heard it, maybe you haven't, but we're going to use that picture to help us.

So what we want to do with this picture is we want to find all the things in the picture that show us 10, and then when you find it you can say there are mm of mm in the picture.

So, let me see, hm, okay, I'm going to have a go first.

I'm going to go count those blue flowers and see how many there are.

You can count with me if you like.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

So I could say there are 10 of blue flowers in the picture, I found something worth 10.

So what we want you to do is to pause the video and see what else in the image you can find 10 of, and then we'll come back together to share some of our answers.

All right, what else did you find 10 of? Maybe you found 10 trees, maybe you found 10 houses.

I would love to hear about all the things that you found 10 of.

Way to go, everyone, we're sure that you did some great counting.

All right, so let's take a closer look at the number 10 on our number line.

Can you spot number 10 on the number line? Can you point to it with your finger? Well done.

Now, how is the number 10, why does it look different than our other numbers on the number line? Well, if you said that's because there's two numbers or two digits that represent 10, you're right.

We can't just write it as one number, we've got to write two digits.

So let's practise writing it in the air and then maybe we can practise writing it down on a piece of paper.

So what numbers do I need to write, to write the number 10? I need to write a number 1 and a 0 beside each other.

Okay, so let's start with number 1, so we're going to start tall in the air and then draw a line straight down for the number 1, and then beside it, we're going to do our 0, and I know that you're already really good at drawing a 0.

So let's start at the top, we're going to go around and up, way to go, fantastic! So in a minute, we'll write that down on our piece of paper, but first off I want to know a little bit more about 10 and where it is on the number line.

So, what number comes before 10, or what is one less than 10? If you said 9, fantastic, you are fabulous.

Okay, let's see if we can practise writing our number 10 and then we'll come back together.

Okay, let's write our number 10, so remember, I've got my number 1 first, I go straight down and then I can do a 0 beside it to make the number 10, all right.

Have a go at writing the number 10 three times on a piece of paper and then we'll come back together.

All right, well, now that we know our numbers up to 10, we can play a little bit of a matching game.

So, Harold's going to pick a number card for me and I'm going to have to try and find that number of objects on my screen.

Okay, so Harold's going to tell me a number.

Okay, Harold said 4, so I need to find something on the screen that shows me 4 of it.

All right, I'm going to have a look, and I see 4 butterflies, is that right? Pause the video if you need to take a closer look.

Have I found the right answer, are there 4 butterflies? Oh, no? Let me count them.

1, 2, 3, oh, that is not right, okay, I'm going to have another go here, I'm going to have a closer look.

Oh, I found something that there's 4 of, I see 4 pieces of cheese at the top, do you see that as well? There are 1, 2, 3, 4 pieces of cheese.

Oh, wait though, I think there might be something else that represents 4 in the picture.

Can you pause the video and see if you can find another picture that shows us 4 of an object? Pause the video and see what you can find.

All right, well, did you find the 4 pink jugs? Oh, we thought you would, well done everyone.

All right, well, we thought you were so good at that counting game that we want you to carry on with your main task.

So you're going to need your counting objects, so make sure you go grab them, then what you're going to do is you're going to choose a number from the number line, so let's say you choose the number 8.

Can you build 8 with your counting objects? So whatever it might be, you need to get 8 of them.

Then what you're going to do is go into the worksheet and find those pictures of the objects.

Can you find something that shows 8 in the pictures? Okay, and then once you've done that, you can find the matching number card to go with it as well, so you should have lots of different representations of that number.

So you're going to pause the video and you're going to have a go at finding some of the different numbers up to 10, and then we'll come back together.

Wow, weren't they just great with their counting, Harold?
