And today I'm going to be teaching you all about counting up to 15 objects and putting them into order.

I hope you're as excited as I am.

I can't wait to begin.

Oh, hello there.

This is Patch.

And he is going to be my assistant for today's lesson.

Now he has a very important role and you will see him popping up later on in today's learning Are you ready to begin now? Let's get started.

So for this lesson you will need the following items. You will need some countable objects.

So I've got some cubes, but perhaps you have some counters or something else you can use.

And then you'll also need some number cards.

Now these are in today's lesson resources, and please ask a parent or carer to help you cut them out, if you're using scissors.

If you haven't got these items ready, please press the pause button now go and collect them, find a nice quiet space and then resume the video.

So let's begin our lesson.

Here is the big picture for this unit.

I wonder if you know which nursery rhyme, the picture comes from.

Well done if you said old mother Hubbard.

There's old mother Hubbard and there's Patch sitting on the floor next to her.

He doesn't look too happy.

I wonder if you know the nursery rhyme.

That might explain why.

Shall we sing the first verse together? Are you ready? ♪ Old mama Hubbard went to the cupboard ♪ ♪ To fetch her poor doggy a bone ♪ ♪ But when she got back the cupboard was bare ♪ ♪ And so the poor doggy had none ♪ Well, that's the reason why Patch looks so sad.

There's no bones for him to chew on.

That's a shame.

Isn't it? Well, let's cheer him up with some maths.

I wonder if you can help me answer some questions about our big picture.

So here's the first one.

I spy with my little eye something in the picture and there are 10 of them.

Do you think you can find out what they are? Have a good look.

Well, well done.

If you said, the glasses, the empty glasses and there are three of them just that, there are 10 altogether.

Can you count them out? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and 10.

Number 10 is just about Patches head.

Well done if you got that correct.

Now, how many tables can you see in the big picture? Can you shout the answer out of the screen? That's right.

There is one big table in the big picture.

Now is there anything else that there's only one of in the picture? I wonder if you can whisper this to your talk partner or to someone next to you? Well, I can see a few things that there's just one of, there is only one old mother Hubbard and there is only one Patch in the picture.

Well done if you spotted something else, that there's only one of.

Now, in the picture I could also see some round or circular yellow plates.

How many yellow plates can you spot? See if you can count them out.

Shall we see if you're correct? Let's count them together.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and 10.

Now, there are 10 yellow plates.

I wonder if you can help me to represent those round yellow plates using some lollipop sticks.

So let's count out 10 lolly sticks together.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and 10.

Here are my 10 lolly sticks.

They represent the 10 round yellow plates.

So today we are exploring, counting up to 15 objects and putting them in order.

So let's have a look at the arrangement in front of you.

Can you tell me how many cubes there are in each house as I point to them? So here, how many cubes are there? That's right.

There's one.

In this tower, there are two.

Well done.

We have three cubes here.

Four cubes here, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and 10 rides at the end here.

Can you see a pattern in the towers? That's right.

Every tower has got one more cube.

Now, can you tell me how many cubes there are before one? That's right.

There are zero cubes.

zero one, two three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and 10.

Let's have a look at my tower of 10 for a moment.

So here is my group of 10 cubes.

Let's just double check, that I'm correct.

We have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and 10.

What happens if I add one more cube to my tower? How many cubes will I have next? That's right.

Now I have 11 cubes.

If I have one more cube, how many cubes will I have now? That's right.

I have 12 cubes.

If I have one more cube, how many cubes will I have now? That's right.

13 One more cube makes 14 cubes.

And one last cube makes 15 cubes.

All together I now have 15 cubes in my tower.

Let's double check by counting.

one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15.

Now it's your turn to have a go.

For today's talk task you're going to need your talk partner you're going to need a number cards and also some manipulatives.

I'll be using the cubes but you can use whatever you have handy.

Patches also on hand to give us some help.

He is going to be my talk partner.

Hi Patch.

So Patches decided to pick a number card.

Let's see which number he has chosen.

Can you see the number that he's picked? That's right.

It's the number 13.

Now it's my job to represent the number 13 using my minute per tips.

I'm going to be counting out 13 cubes.

Can you help me? Let's go.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, and 13.

Have I done it correctly? Good.

That's great to hear.

So now please press the pause button.

And I'd like you and your talk partner to use the number cards and your manipulatives to represent the numbers.

Once you've had a go, please resume the video and we'll carry on with our learning.

Well, let's have a look at our independent task for today.

Now Mrs. Khaira and Patch have had a go at ordering numbers all the way from zero to 12.

So we have built towers of each number but it appears that we have missed some of them out.

Now I wonder if you can help me to fill in the missing numbers.

Let's count together to see how far we get.

So we start at the beginning with zero, one, two, three.

Hmm.

I wonder what number is missing? Well I think there's a pattern.

Every tower has got one more cube than before.

So I think we can find the missing tower.

So we know that we've got three cubes to match the previous tower and then we add one more.

One more than three is equal to four.

One, two, three and four.

Our missing tower is number four.

Four comes after three.

So let's try again.

Zero, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

Hmm.

We seem to have a missing tower.

Now let's think about the pattern.

We know that every tower is going up by one more cube.

We have seven cubes here.

So let's use that to help us work out the missing tower.

So let's pop in a tower of seven.

One, two, three, four, five, six, and seven.

Now we know that by adding one more cube, we'll find the missing number.

One more than seven is equal to eight.

Eight comes after seven.

Let's see if our pattern is compete.

Zero, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, and 12.

Now it's your turn to have a go.

So using your manipulatives, like your cubes or your counters, and perhaps your number cards to help you check, have a go at the activity.

You'll need to order your towers from zero all the way to 15.

Make sure you count each item very carefully so you don't make a mistake.

Now let's finish off today's lesson.

For this final activity.

We're going to practise our counting, but this time we're going to try it with shape.

Let's have a look and see what I mean.

On the screen, you'll see three red shapes.

Can you tell me the name of those shapes? That's right.

We have three red rectangles.

Now, I wonder if you can help me to count how many sides there are all together on those three rectangles.

To help us we're going to cross off each side as we go.

Are you ready? Let's do this together.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven and eight, nine, 10, 11, and 12.

So on three rectangles, there are 12 sides.

There are four sides on each shape.

Now I wonder if I can challenge you a little bit more.

If I add one more red rectangle, how many more sides would I have? Wow.

We already know that we've got 12 sides on three rectangles.

So let's count on from 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.

On four rectangles, we have got 16 sides all together.

Great counting everyone.

Now in less than two, we are going to continue with counting up the 15 objects and we're going to be putting them into order.
