Hi, I'm Ms. Davis.

In this lesson, we're going to be drawing quadratic graphs that have a negative X squared.

Using your calculator, work out or evaluate, negative three squared and negative three squared.

This means negative three squared.

Negative three multiplied by negative three, giving us an answer of nine.

This is the negative of three squared, which is negative three multiplied by three, giving an answer of negative nine.

A table of values can be used to draw a quadratic function.

We are going to fill in the table values to plot the graph of Y is equal to negative X squared subtract one.

When X is negative three, we're going to complete the calculation.

Negative, negative three squared subtract one, which is negative nine subtract one, giving a Y value of negative 10.

When X is negative two, the calculation is negative, negative two squared subtract one, giving a Y value of negative five.

When X is negative one, Y is negative two.

When X is zero, Y is negative one.

This is the constant in the given function.

When X is one, the calculation is negative one squared subtract one, giving a Y solution of negative two.

When X is two, Y is negative five.

And when X is three, Y is negative 10.

We can then plot these coordinates and join them together with a smooth curve to give the graph for this quadratic function.

Here are the answers.

Negative two X squared is calculated by multiplying negative two by X squared.

That's all for this lesson.

Thanks for watching.
