Welcome to today's maths lesson.

I was just playing a game with my friend Reggie.

Do you want to know what we were playing? Right.

So, we were playing a game where I was saying a number, and Reggie was counting and copying up to that same number.

Do you want to see how it went? Went a little bit like this.

Five.

One, two, three, four, five.

That was great Reggie.

Well done.

Shall we show everybody another one? Okay.

Oh, Reggie wants to use the number seven? Seven.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

Great Reggie.

Oh, Reggie says it's your turn now.

Have you put your clapping hands.

Great.

Reggie says, he's going to tell me a number, and then you're going to clap it.

Are you ready? Six.

Reggie says great clapping everyone.

He says, are you ready for one more number? Here we go.

Nine.

Now, let's have a look.

I've got some pencils in my hand.

Was wondering if you can help me count them out.

I'm going to put them onto my table, and you can help me count each one.

Are you ready? Here we go.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

Now, I know that we can put our 20 pencils into groups of 10.

Let's have a look at how we do that.

Get to use my careful counts and finger for this.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10.

10 pencils.

Then we got to put them into group of 10.

There we are, got my 10 pencils here.

Now, let's have a look.

I know that we can count on from 10.

Let's try to do this together.

Hold 10 in your head.

10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

So, I know that 10 add 10 makes 20.

So, here is my other 10.

Now, then put my elastic around this group, and it's my other group of 10.

10 add 10 make 20.

One group of 10 and another group of 10.

Now, but today's learning, we will be exploring place value.

Here are the things that you're going to need.

You're going to need, two tens frames.

Look at it a bit like this.

You're going to need, 20 objects for counting.

10 of your objects, need to be the same.

And the other 10 objects need to be the same too.

Don't worry if you can't find 20 objects with 10 or one type and 10 of the other type.

That's absolutely fine.

You'll also need, number cards up to ten.

Now that you've got your two tens frames, your 20 objects for counting, and your number cards up to 10.

You're ready for today's learning.

Let's take a look at our star words.

I'm going to say them and you can say them after me.

You ready? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

And the last one is groups.

Those are our star words for today.

Now, to help us with our new learning, we got to use our tens frames.

Have a look what we're going to do next.

So, here are my two tens frames.

And what I'm going to do is I'm going to count 10 of my objects onto the first 10s frame.

You can count with me.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10.

There were 10 objects in first tens frame.

And I can put number 10 here.

'Cause there are 10 objects here.

Now, I'm going to count four objects into the second tens frame.

See if you can help me count them.

One, two, three, four.

See if we can find them four.

Here we are.

How many objects are there all together? See if you can count them.

There are 10 in the top tens frame, and four in the second one.

Shout out the answer when you know.

Right.

Here's the way we can find out.

If we know there were 10 in the top tens frame, we can count on.

10, 11, 12, 13, 14.

There are 14 objects all together.

We know that there were four in this one and 10 in this one.

Let's see what happens when we put number four next to 10.

Oh! Does that say 14? Do the two number cards show 14? What do you think? Great, let's have a look at how we can change them.

So, we know that there is one group of 10 up here.

You can take that away.

Number one here, for one group of 10, and number four here.

There are 14 objects showing on the tens frames.

10 on the top one and four on the bottom one.

Now, I've got a question for you.

What would happen, if we added two more objects to the bottom tens frame? How many objects would there be? We know that there were 10 up here.

We're going to add two more to the bottom one.

Have a think.

How many objects do you think there would be? I can hear some of you shouting the answer.

Let's add them.

One, two.

Now we can count them.

We know that there are 10 in the top one, so, we can count on.

Are ready? You can count with me.

Hold 10 in your head.

10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16.

There are 16 objects all together.

Let's see if we can find the right numbers.

One group of 10, and now six, but the bottom.

And then we've made 16.
