Hi, and welcome to today's lesson, Festival fun.

Our learning objective today is to learn how different people celebrate different festivals.

Hi there! My name's Miss Waka and I'm going to be your teacher today.

What's your name? Oh hi! In this lesson, you will need your looking eyes, your listening ears, some card or some paper, and some coloured pencils.

People celebrate different festivals.

Festival.

Say the word fes-ti-val.

Let's clap it.

Fes-ti-val! That's three syllables.

Fes-ti-val! I want you to say it to your shoulder.

Festival! Festival.

Use your queen voice now.

Festival! Your singing voice.

♪Festival♪ And I want you to now say it in your really groan-y voice.

Festival.

So festival is a celebration and people celebrate.

So these are some festivals that we are going to look at today.

So what do you we do at festivals? Looking at the pictures, yes you make have a cake, and have some decorations up.

You spend the day with your friends and your family, don't you? Look, there's even lights on this picture on the outside.

You make a present or even a card.

Christmas.

Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December.

It is a holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ, who according to the Christian religion is the son of God.

The name is the joining of the words Christ and Mass.

Mass, which means the Holy Mass, which is the Supper.

The celebration of festival of Christ.

So Christ and Mass, the Holy Mass, together makes Christmas.

Eid.

Muslims celebrate two Eids.

Eid al-Fitr is a Muslim holiday celebrated at the end of Ramadan, when the Muslims fast for 29 or 30 days.

Eid al-Adha is the one where Muslims go to the pilgrimage.

After the Eid prayer, the Muslims greet each other.

During this festival, children accept gifts and money from adults.

Hanukkah.

Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of light.

Every year, the celebration honours the hard-fought victory of those trying to keep their faith despite a powerful enemy.

During the time, there are eight candles and each day a candle is lit.

The children play a toy called the dreidel, which is a spinning top.

Which each side of the dreidel has a letter of the Hebrew alphabet on it.

Diwali.

Diwali is a festival of light.

And every Indian celebrates it with joy.

During this festival, people light up their houses and even their shops.

They worship the lord Ganesha for good welfare and prosperity.

And goddess Lakshmi for wealth and wisdom.

To create my card for a festival, I need some card.

If you've got some coloured card, that would be fantastic.

But I'm just going to use some white card.

White paper.

Fold it in half.

You may need an adult to help you here.

Now, I'm going to draw some balloons because at every festival there are always balloons.

So I'm going to draw my balloons.

And I'm going to draw a nice, big What do you think it is? It's supposed to be a cake.

You can colour in your balloons whatever colour you want.

Make sure you stay in the lines.

And make it nice, bright and beautiful.

There we go, my celebratory card.

I could give this to anybody I want to.

Let's play a game.

I have lots of pictures that you have already seen, about when I talked about the different festivals and the different religions that followed those festivals.

Now I want to test if you have been listening.

Can you tell me what is happening at this festival? Which religion follow this festival? You're right, Muslims are hugging each other after their Eid prayer.

It is the festival of.

Eid! Well done.

The next one.

Oh, have a look.

Remember the pictures we looked at.

That is called a dreidel.

And it has, it's a four-sided spinner, with four letters in Hebrew on it.

But which festival is it played at? You're right! It's the festival of Hanukkah.

Let's have a look at the next one, shall we? Oh, that might be a little bit difficult.

It's the crucifix, it's the cross.

Yes! Christians celebrate Christmas when Jesus was born.

And our last one.

Oh, lots of beautiful patterns there.

Can you remember which festival it was? Diwali! They worship Lord Ganesha for good welfare and prosperity.

It's the festival of light.

Well done.

Some fantastic remembering today.

I'm so proud of you and how much you have learnt about these different festivals.

I can't go through all the festivals or we would be here for a very long time.

But there are also other festivals, like Easter, Passover, Holi, Buddha Day, and you may know even more.

Your task today is to create a card for a festival.

First, fold your card and draw celebratory images.

Next, decorate your card so it is colourful.

Then, give it to someone who will be celebrating a festival soon.

I look forward to seeing some of your celebratory cards.
