Hello, everyone.

I hope you've had a great start to your day and you're ready for today's math lesson.

Before we get started on our new learning, we're going to have a quick recap of finding one less than a given number.

Let's take a look and see how we're going to do that.

I'm going to show you, some keeps here, on the screen.

Your job is to count the amount of cubes that they're and shout out how many there would be, if there was one less.

Have a go now and then shout out your answer, when you're ready.

Great.

I can hear a lot of you shouting out the answer.

Show me, see how many there are, one, two, three, four, five, six.

If there was one less, there would be, shout out, five.

One, two, three, four, five.

One less than six, is five.

Can you say that? Well done everyone, great job.

Now, we're going to have a go with one more amount.

Let's see how many it's going to be.

Are you ready? Here we are, count the amount I'll keep showing and then shout out, how many cubes there would be, if there was one less.

I can hear some of you working it out, keep going.

Great, Let's do it together.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

There are eight cubes.

If there was one less cube, how many would that be? Shout out the answer.

Seven.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, one less than eight, is seven.

Can you say that? Great job, everyone.

Here's what you're going to need.

You will need up to 20 objects for counting, you need a sheet, that looks a bit like this, and you need a pen to record your answers.

Now that you've got your objects, your sheet for recording and your pen, you are ready for today's learning.

Let's take a look at our star words.

I'm going to say them and you can say them after me.

Are you ready? Double, half, add, two equal parts and share between.

Those are our star words for today.

Now let's take a look at our picture.

It's going to help us with our learning.

See if you recognise what it is.

Here we are.

Do you recognise what it is? Shout out if you know.

It's a train carriage, you're right.

Take a look, lets see how many people are going to be on the train.

One, two, maybe you can count 'em for me.

How many people are on the train? Great.

There are six people in the train carriage, but here's the problem.

The train carriage is too full.

And the driver, says that there needs to be half the amount of people in the train carriage.

So half, of the people need to get off the train.

How can we solve that problem? Shout out, some suggestion did you know.

How many people need to get off the train? I can hear a lot of you shouting out some great suggestions.

So when we're half, we share quantities equally between two groups.

So we share the quantities and amounts equally between two groups, when we're half.

Let's see how we can do that without trying.

I think we'll use a part whole model to help us work that out.

Let's take a look.

So here we are, here is our whole part model.

We have got, six people in the train carriage.

Let's see if we can split them equally between two groups.

So here we count 'em one, share them equally two, three, four, five, six.

There we are.

Have we shared them equally between two groups? Let's find out if the two groups are equal.

Remember if they are equal, they've got to have the same amount.

So let's find out.

One, two, three, and to our group one, two, three in the second part.

So we've got three in the first part and three in the second part.

There we are.

They've been shared equally between two groups, three in one part, three in another part.

Remember we started off with six.

So six, was our whole number and let's make them to the side so that we can write our parts.

Three, and three.

There we are.

Half of six, is three, double three, is six.

Well done everyone.

That was great helping.

Now we're going to do some more.

Then, let's take a look at a sheet, its going to help us.

Here we are.

We're going to have a look, at the yellow carriage here.

How many passengers can you see in the yellow carriage? Shout out your answer when you know.

I can hear a lot of you shouting out the answer.

Let's count them together.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

There are eight passengers in the yellow carriage.

Half, that the passengers need to get off at the next station.

How many passengers would there be? If half of the passengers got off.

So we've got eight passengers now, but half of them need to get off.

How many passengers are going get off? How many passengers will be left? Shout your answers out to the screen, if you know.

See if you can take a guess.

I can hear a lot of you trying to work that answer out.

Shall we see if we can work it out together? Let's see if you can use your sheet, that looks a little bit like this and your objects for counting to help.

So I'm going to put the sheet here and to use my objects to help us.

So there were eight passengers, altogether.

So I might share them equally between two groups to find half.

I'm going to use cubes to help me, one, you can count with me two, three, four, but remember these are our passages, five, six, seven, and eight.

I'll put them like this.

There we are.

So we'll pretend these are eight passengers, they're halfed and shared equally between two groups.

So remember we had eight in the beginning, eight was a whole number.

You've got one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, four.

So eight shared equally between two equal groups or two equal parts four, half, that's eight is four.

Can you say that? Great.

And double four is equal to eight.

Can you say that too? Great.

So we had eight passengers on the train carriage, four passengers left the train, and that means that there were four passengers remaining on the train.

Half of eight is four and we can write that.

Four, and four.

Let's take a look at another carriage on the train.

Let's take a look at the purple carriage.

Your job is to count how many passengers there are and then see how many there would be if there was half left on the train.

So half of the passengers got off the train carriage and half of the passengers are left.

How many passengers got off the train? And how many passengers are left? If half of the passengers left off the train, so what is half of the amount, the purple carriage.

See if you can work that out using your objects and your part whole model sheet.
