I've got my friend here.

This is Higgety Tiggety the Bumble Bee.

When he sings to you, you have to tell him your name.

I'll go first to show you how it's done.

♪ Higgety Tiggety Bumble Bee ♪ ♪ Can you sing your name to me ♪ ♪ My name's Ms. Glover ♪ What would you sing? Fantastic, let's have a go.

♪ Higgety Tiggety Bumble Bee ♪ ♪ Can you sing your name to me ♪ Great job, everyone! Today, we are going to learn to review our understanding of pulse, to understand that some music has different numbers of beats, to identify the pulse in songs, and to clap on the strongest beats.

In this lesson, you will need your body.

Give us a wave! Your voice, say hello! A pencil and paper.

Pause the video to go and get a pencil and some paper, now.

You can press Play again, once you're finished.

What is the pulse in music? Is it the words of the song, the instruments used in the music, the heartbeat of the music, or the person singing the song? That's right, it's the heartbeat of the music.

Which beat is usually the strongest beat in the bar? Is it beat one, beat two, beat three or beat four? That's right, it's beat one.

I'm going to sing a new song to you, now.

This is a lovely lullaby.

It's called, "Hush Little Baby." While I do that, I'm going to clap on the first beat of every bar and tap my knees on the rest of the beats.

See if you can tell from the pattern I'm clapping and tapping, how many beats there are in each bar of the song.

Are you ready? Listen carefully.

♪ Soft through the window ♪ ♪ Darkness is creeping ♪ ♪ Hush little baby ♪ ♪ Now's time for sleeping ♪ ♪ Birds are not singing ♪ ♪ Bees are not humming ♪ ♪ Hush little baby ♪ ♪ Sleep time is coming ♪ Did you see how many beats there are in each bar? That's right, it's four beats in each bar.

Lots of the songs we've been singing so far have four beats in each bar.

It's very common in music to use four beats in each bar.

It makes it sound really, really good.

But not all music is written like that.

Today, we're going to be learning some other songs that are not written like that.

But for now, why don't you have a go at singing this song with me? You can see the words on the screen.

How many beats were in the bar? Is it two, three, four or five? That's right, it was four.

I'm going to sing another song to you, now.

See if you can tell by when I'm clapping and tapping my knees, how many beats are in each bar of this song.

Listen carefully, it might not be four this time.

How many beats were in the bar? Was it two, three, four or five? That's right, there were three beats in each bar.

Well done! My last song today is about a duck called, "Francis Drake." See if you can count how many beats come in each bar of this song.

I will clap on the first beat and tap my knees on the rest.

How many come in a bar? Are you ready to listen? Let's go.

♪ Francis Drake was tired of quacking ♪ ♪ Thought his voice had something lacking ♪ ♪ Lessons had improved his chances ♪ ♪ Now he's known as singing Francis ♪ ♪ Francis Drake was tired of quacking ♪ ♪ Thought his voice had something lacking ♪ ♪ Lessons had improved his chances ♪ ♪ Now he's known as singing Francis ♪ How many beats came in each bar of that song? Great job, everyone! Why don't you have a go at singing this song? How many beats were in the bar? Was it two, three, four or five? That's right, there were five beats in each bar.

It's unusual to find music with five beats in each bar.

Now, it's time to listen.

This piece of music is, "The Waltz of the Flowers." And it's by a composer called, Tchaikovsky.

This music has three beats in each bar.

See if you can clap and tap your way through the music to find the three beats in each bar.

Today, we have learnt to review our understanding of pulse, to understand that some music has a different number of beats, to identify the pulsing songs, and to clap on the strongest beats.
