Hi, I'm Ms. Waka, and our learning objective today is to understand that animals need love too.

Hi, my name's Ms. Waka.

What's your name? Oh, hi there.

I'm going to be your teacher today.

Shall we get started? What are pets? Pets are part of your family, but you wouldn't include them in your family tree.

You love them and care for them like you would a family member.

Pets are part of your family because they live in your house and you do cuddle them, and you do feed them.

They need water too, just like you and me.

So we have pets that may be a dog, maybe a cat, maybe a hamster, or even a snake.

What other pets can you think of? That's right.

You might even have a pet rat or a guinea pig.

You may even have a fish.

I've got some friends that have got some pets.

They have done short clips to tell us what they do to look after those pets.

I don't have any pets.

Do you have any? What do you have? Wow.

Some of you have snakes, and some of you have rabbits, and some of you have cats and dogs.

I bet you love your pet very much.

Shall we have a look at what the other people, what people think about those animals, their animals? Hi, boys and girls.

And this is my pet rabbit.

His name is Smokey, and he's a dwarf rabbit, which means he won't grow very big.

And I'm going to show you all the things I do to take care of him.

I look after my rabbit by making sure he has a clean litter tray and fresh hay to chew on.

I make sure my rabbit has fresh food every day.

I also make sure he has fresh, clean water throughout the day.

I also like to feed my rabbit treats at the end of the day.

This is my fish and I feed it once a day.

Hi, this is Eissa and this is Winston.

And to look after them, I need to make sure they have plenty of food and water.

I need to make sure they're always clean and tidy and they get lots of cuddles and attention.

They eat dog meat and dog food.

And when they're really, really good, they get a treat.

Did you enjoy learning about the different pets my friends had? What did they all need though? Yes, all the animals, all the pets, needed feeding and needed water.

Some of them wanted lots of cuddles.

But fish can't have cuddles, can they? So they don't need cuddling.

Which animals need cuddles? Cats and dogs would love lots of cuddles.

So would rabbits, maybe a rat or even a Guinea pig.

They like cuddling too, just like you and me.

We like cuddles too, to show that we love one another.

I have four legs.

I like to go for walks, and I bark.

What am I? That's right, I'm a dog.

But how do you look after me? Well done.

I do, I need feeding and I need to go for a walk.

I have scales.

I live in water and I have fins.

What am I? Well done, I'm a fish.

But how do you look after me? That's right.

You need to feed me every day.

You also need to make sure you clean my tank out.

I can be very colourful.

I have wings and I can talk.

What am I? That's right, I'm a parrot.

But how do you look after me? What do you think a parrot needs? Yes, you're right.

A parrot needs food and it needs its cage cleaning out too.

I have long ears.

I eat carrots, and I have a floppy tail.

But what am I? Well done, I'm a rabbit.

But how do you look after me? Yes, you need to feed me and you need to give me water and make sure I have hay.

I'm going to make a toy for a pet.

I'm going to use a variety of craft materials, but it depends on which animal you're going to make it for.

I've decided to make a little rattle shaker for my cat.

I've got the inside of a Kinder Egg, empty.

And I'm going to add some bits and pieces in.

I found some beads around the house and I'm going to fill them in here to make it.

Make the sound.

I'm sure the cat would love that.

It's a bit hard for my cat to be able to grab on to.

So I've decided to put some string, and I'm going to hold and wrap and wrap all the way around.

Oh, nice and tight.

Turn it.

All the way around.

So you can't see the egg at all.

I'm sure my cat would love this toy.

Make sure you ask the permission of your adult, a parent, or carer to use the materials in your house.

Oh, this is looking good.

I'm sure my cat would love this.

Nearly there.

Carry on until you can't see the egg.

Whoopsy daisy.

There we have it.

Now remember, scissors are sharp, so have an adult to supervise, a parent or a carer.

Cut it off.

And I'm going to just tuck it in there.

I'm sure my cat's going to love this toy.

Your task today is to design and create a toy for a pet.

First, choose an animal.

Maybe a cat, a dog, a snake, or even a fish.

Next, use different craft materials to create your toy.

Then, play with your pet or gift it to someone who has a pet.

Share your work with Oak National.

I'm looking forward to see some of your pet toys that you've created.

If you'd like to, please ask your parent or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging @OakNational and #LearnwithOak.
