Hello, everyone and welcome back to another Friday lesson with me, Miss Sidenius.

Today we've got a really exciting lesson because we're going to be making a beautiful decoration in the shape of a moon and a star.

Let's find out why we're going to be making that decoration.

So, this week we've been learning all about Eid and how Muslims celebrate Eid.

One of the ways that they celebrate Eid is by having these beautiful moon and star decorations in their home.

And we're going to have a go at creating our own decoration.

And then we're going to share it with somebody in our household, our teddy or our toy.

In this lesson, you are going to need five things.

That's quite a lot of things, so make sure that you listen carefully.

You're going to need some paper or a paper plate, some pencils or some pens, some scissors, some string and your teddy or toy.

Make sure that you've got those five things.

Pause the video here while you go and get them and come back when you're ready.

Good job, everyone.

Now on Wednesday's lesson we taught a little bit about how Muslims celebrate Eid.

Can you remember some of those ways that Muslims do celebrate Eid? Some of the ways that people celebrate Eid, which we spoke about on Wednesday, were getting dressed up, having a big meal with family and friends and decorating homes.

And one way in which Muslims decorate their homes beautifully for Eid is by having moon and star decorations, just like the moon and star you can see in the picture below.

The points of the star represent the five pillars of Islam.

And the moon tells people when to start fasting for Ramadan and when they can finish fasting.

So it's very important for the celebration of Eid.

The decorations might look a bit like this, where the star is almost hanging from the moon.

And it looks really pretty.

And we're going to have a go at making one of these moon and star decorations ourselves.

So the first thing you're going to need to do is to get your piece of paper or your paper plate.

This has a paper plate, but it doesn't matter if you don't have one.

And you're going to draw the shape of a moon, just like the shape that we saw in the decoration earlier.

You can see I'm going slowly and carefully to try and draw my decoration.

I wasn't quite happy with how I drew my moon the first time, so I'm just going to go over it and make it look a little bit more like a moon.

It doesn't matter if you mess up the first time, you just go over it.

Perfect, so pause the video here, draw your moon shape and come back when you're finished.

Well done, everyone.

We're now ready to move onto step two.

And in step two we're going to cut out our moon shape from the paper or our paper plate.

And you can see I'm being very careful to hold my paper plate flat while I'm cutting.

And I've got my finger's on the edge of the plate or on the edge of the paper, if you've got paper, so that they don't get in the way of the scissors.

If you need some help cutting out your moon shape you can ask a parent or a carer or somebody in your household to help you.

There we go.

So I've cut out my moon shape.

Now it's your turn to cut out your moon shape.

Pause the video here, cut out your moon and come back when you're finished.

Good job.

Welcome back, everyone.

We're now moving on to step three for our moon shape.

Now, this can be a little bit tricky.

I'm going to try and draw a star.

I'm not very good at drawing stars.

So you might want to see if you can find a star shape that you can draw around.

You might even want to ask a parent or carer to help you.

I'm sure you're much better at drawing stars than I am.

So you can just have a go at doing it like me.

So, draw your star shape, pause the video here and come back when you're finished.

Well done.

It's a little bit tricky drawing stars, isn't it? I'm sure you did a really good job.

Now we're going to cut out our star shape.

So again, you can see I'm going really slowly and really carefully so that my fingers are nowhere near my scissors because I don't want to cut my fingers.

There we go.

Lovely.

All the way around the edges like that.

And, finished.

It doesn't look like a perfect star but that doesn't matter.

I've got my moon and my star.

Pause the video here while you cut out your star shape and come back when you're finished.

Now we get on to the fun step.

We're going to start decorating our moon and star decoration.

So, I've got a blue colouring pencil.

I think I want my decoration to be blue.

But you can choose whatever colour you would like yours to be.

And I'm just going to colour in all of my moon.

You could even use paints or crayons.

And if you had some nice glitter or some other nice colours you could use, go ahead.

You can make it look however you want it to look.

I'm going to finish colouring in all of my moon.

So pause the video here, colour in all of your moon shape and come back when you're finished.

Well done, everyone.

Our decorations are starting to look really beautiful now that we've added some colour.

So I've coloured in all of my moon shape.

Now I'm just going to the same with my star.

I've chosen to do my star blue, again But you might like to do your star a different colour to your moon.

And then you could add some glitter or your could add some stickers or some other decorations that you have at home.

Now with my star I'm actually going to colour it in on both sides and you'll find out why at the end of the video.

So pause the video here, colour in both sides of your star and come back when you're finished.

Good job, team.

This is a little bit tricky, this part.

I think you might want to get a parent or a carer to help with this part.

But you might be able to do it on your own as well.

So I've got my pencil and I'm poking a hole in the paper, but I'm doing it very carefully and twisting the pencil, not jamming it through the paper.

It might hurt my finger.

Twisting the pencil to make a little hole in the top of my moon.

And then I'm going to twist my pencil again.

Twist it from side to side.

Make a little hole in my star shape too.

I'm going to go back through the other side to make it a little bit bigger.

Now I've got a hole in my moon and a hole in my star.

Pause the video here, make a hole at the top of your moon shape and the top of your star and come back when you're finished.

Good job, everyone.

Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to make a hole that's not too big and rips all of your paper.

So I hope you were able to do it.

Now I've got my piece of string and I'm just going to poke it through the hole in my moon, just like that.

I don't want it to come back out again, so I need to tie a knot in my string.

And you can see how I'm doing it here.

I loop the string round and I pull it through from underneath.

That's only made a very small knot so I'm going to do that a few more times so that the knot gets bigger.

So I loop it round and pull the string under the loop.

There you go.

Now I'm testing it and the string doesn't come back through.

So that's perfect on my moon.

And we're going to do the same thing for my star.

I loop it in through the hole and I don't want it to come back out again, so I need to do a knot in my star string as well.

So loop it round, pull the string through the loop and I want to do that a couple of times again.

Like that.

And there we go.

My star hangs from my moon.

So, pause the video here, have a go at looping the string through your holes, tie them in some knots so they don't come back through and let's see if you can make your star hang from your moon as well.

Come back when you're finished.

Well done.

So, you should have a decoration that looks a bit like that.

And, your star should be coloured in on both sides because when it turns around you'll see both sides of the star.

Now, I didn't have any glitter or anything to make my decoration more exciting but you might have added loads more exciting things to your decoration.

Well done, everyone.

I hope you enjoyed making your moon and star decoration.

I love how the star spins around on the string.

It looks so pretty and I hope you think yours is really pretty too.

Remember to share your work with somebody in your household, your teddy or your toy.

Or you could ask a parent or carer to share your work on Twitter with @OakNational and the hashtag #LearnWithOak because I would love to see your decorations as well and see what different colours or glitter or what shape your moon is and your star.

They'll be very different to mine, so I would love to see what you've been doing at home.

Bye, everyone.

See you next week.
