The OAT lesson today is called make my home my castle, where we will be thinking about dangers that we find in our homes and how to keep safe.

In today's lesson, you will need your looking eyes and listening ears, a favourite teddy, some paper and some coloured pencils.

Pause the video, find your items and come back soon.

Hello and welcome to another lesson with me, Mrs Mulla.

Today we'll be doing it from my home.

This is where I love to spend my time with my family - hmmm - and I have a special visitor coming to see me today.

Her name is Mrs Squeak.

I've had to be really busy cleaning my house out so that it's nice and tidy for her visit.

Oh I think she's here.

Oh hello Mrs Mulla, I hope you're okay.

I'm coming to look around your house today and I hope that it's nice and tidy.

I am going to be inspecting it.

Oh dear; there are dangers in this house.

We need to sort it out.

This is definitely a job for me.

Dangers in the house? Where? In the bedroom, the kitchen, the garage? These are all the rooms that I have to my house.

Do you have these rooms at your house? Well, I don't know where these dangers are.

Shall we find out? Oh dear Mrs Mulla, there are clothes on the floor.

That could cause a fall.

And what's that I can see? Why is that I could fall over? Goodness me.

Oh, and a drink of water near electrical devices.

Now that could cause a fire, Mrs Mulla.

And your hair dryer is switched on and left on the beds.

Now that can get very hot and cause a fire.

How silly.

And I can see a frying pan with the handle sticking out.

Now anybody could walk past and knock that off and burn themselves.

I can also see an ironing board left in the middle of the kitchen.

Anybody could walk past and knock that iron off.

It should be tidied away and the iron should be unplugged and put away.

There's also a towel left on the toaster.

Now that can cause a fire.

And I can see that your blender has not been put away and there are sharp things inside that blender, so that should be put out of reach.

In your front room, Mrs Mulla, I can see some adult drinks left out.

Now anybody could either spill them or children could drink them, so they should be put away.

I can also see a lit candle on the side near a curtain.

That should be blown out, otherwise that could catch fire on the curtain.

There's also an open fire.

There should be a safety guard over that fire.

That is very dangerous.

And there are toys on the floor that we could fall over and seriously hurt ourselves.

This is not good.

Thank you, Mrs Squeak; that was really helpful.

Now I know what to look out for.

Remember, we need to be alert.

Take a look at these pictures.

Where do you think they are in the home? The kitchen.

But is it safe, or not? Pause the video and tell Teddy.

It is not safe; you're right.

But why? Can you tell Teddy why it's not safe in this kitchen? The little girl is touching the pan on the hob.

This may burn and it will mean she gets hurt.

Did you say the same? Well done.

The second picture is showing the little boy climbing the stool above the hob.

That isn't safe because he may trip and burn himself on the hob.

Not safe.

The last picture shows someone really busy and there are small fires in the back.

That is definitely not safe, and we need to be careful of all these dangers to stay safe and not get hurt.

Can you think of any more dangers? Have a look at this space here.

Do you recognise where it is? Your living room, or your lounge.

Look at the pictures.

Pause the video, and tell Teddy.

Is it safe, or not? It's safe.

Excellent.

We should always put our toys away and not leave them lying around, so that we can move without any trips or falls.

Having covers on sockets protects you from getting electrocuted.

Keeping your space clean and tidy with everything in it's place means you are in a safe space where you can move around freely and enjoy.

Which room do you think these pictures are from? The bathroom.

You decide - safe or not.

Pause the video, and tell Teddy.

You're right.

It's danger.

There are lots of dangers in this room.

The cleaning products are very dangerous.

They could harm your skin, and we should never ever put it near our mouths.

Sometimes when we are not focused, the water could overflow in the sink or the bath.

That is dangerous because if you - could overflow and spill onto the floor, you could slip and fall and get badly hurt.

You might find electronic devices like a hairdryer in the bathroom.

That is extremely dangerous and we should not keep them near any water.

You did great with that.

I'm so glad Mrs Squeak was here to help me with my home and show me all the dangers in my house, but we need to let everyone else know about the dangers you can find at home.

Can you help me with this? Great.

I think we could create a lovely poster.

And you could add on a warning sign.

That's right.

We could include that in our poster.

But what do we need to look out for? Fire is one, isn't it? We could draw a flame for this using lots of bright colours, like red and orange and yellow.

Mmmmm.

What else? Can you guess what this might be? The hob.

Yes; that's dangerous and hot to touch.

We should definitely keep away from that.

Anything else? A hair - hairdryer.

Yes, definitely.

Excellent.

If you can think of any more, keep them in mind and you can draw them on your posters.

Now, once we've drawn all our pictures of things we should stay away from, we need to give a warning sign.

I'm going to put down look out, using my tricky word, "look" and tricky word, "out".

That will warn people to look out for these things in their home and keep safe from them.

Today, I would like you to create a poster to show what you have learnt so that you can share it with others.

The steps you need to take to make your poster is the first, think about all the items that you have in your home that are dangerous.

Next, with your paper and your pencils, I'd like you to draw all the things that you think are dangerous in your homes.

Finally, I'd like you to write a short message or some words that warn others of these dangers.

Can you pause the video and have a go? So Mrs Mulla, we have gone through your house and all of the dangers so you know exactly what to do now to keep your home a safe home.

So I hope that you can tidy it up and keep it safe, okay? Goodbye, Mrs Mulla.

Wow, you have been amazing.

Now you know how to keep safe and away from dangers in your homes.

You can share your lovely posters with me.

Ask a parent or carer to share it on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, tagging at OAK National and hashtag learn with OAK.

See you soon!.
