Hi, everybody.

Welcome back to your unit on place value.

Today, we are going to be rounding two and three digit numbers, to the nearest multiple of 10.

But before we get begin, puts on your hats, tighten those ties, tell the computer, now I am a mathematician so let's get started with our lesson.

So here is our lesson agenda today.

We're going to be doing our star words before moving onto round two digit numbers to the nearest 10.

Then we're going to do exploring with some dice, rounding three digits, and then your independent tasks.

But before we begin, please make sure you have access to a pencil, a piece of paper, a ruler, dice or an online dice.

If you need to get any of those resources, please pause the video now and collect them before starting.

Brilliant, let's get started.

Star words, remember to repeat them back to me, star words, 10, rounding, nearest, multiple of.

Show me rounding, show me nearest, show me multiple of.

And remember we need to be using these throughout our lessons.

So if you spot me not using them, make sure to remind me.

Let's get started.

Here we have the number 52 and I want to round it to the nearest 10.

So my nearest 10 is either going to be 50 or 60.

Now I know the number two I'm always going to round down.

52 to the nearest multiple of 10 is going to be 50.

Here we have the number 78.

My nearest multiples of 10, are 70 and 80.

Now my number line, my 78.

So it's much closer to 80.

Therefore I'm going to around 78 up to 80.

Now I know this because one to four, we hit the floor.

So we round down and five to nine, we reach up high.

So we round up.

Let's do that together.

One to four, we hit the floor.

So we round down.

Five to nine, we reach up high.

So we up.

What about this one? 65.

Nearest multiples of 65, nearest multiples of 10 to 65.

Well it's going to be 60 and it's going to be 70 and 65 sits right in the middle, but remember one to four.

Five to nine, so 65 to the nearest multiple of 10 is going to be 70.

As you can see here on the bead strings we have our number 60 and 65 sits right in the middle, the five to nine we reach up high.

So it goes up to 70.

So now we to do some dice games.

Here, I have my dice.

I'm going to roll my dice two times to get a two digit number.

Then I'm going to represent my number to bead string or or draw dienes on my piece of paper.

And I'm going to draw a number line to find the nearest multiple of 10, Let me show you.

So I rolled a five.

So I'm going to write that down before I forget.

I have five and I have four.

So my number is 54.

So I'm going to draw a number line and at either end I'm going to put the nearest multiples of 10, which are 50.

And 60.

Now where do you think 54 sits? Is it going to sit nearer to 50 or nearer 60? Well, I know that 54 is slightly less than half way.

And I know my rhyme, one to four hit the floor.

So 54 to the rounded to the nearest multiple of 10 is going to be 50.

Now it's your turn, pause the video.

Great job everyone that was really fun wasn't it.

Let's keep going with our learning, because now we're going to be rounding three digit numbers to the nearest 10.

Here I have the number 147, can you whisper to me the nearest multiples of 10? I can't quite hear you.

They are in fact 140 and 150.

Now we're going to put 147 on our number line because we know it's a bit more than 145, so it'd be nearer to 150, and what's our rhyme? One to four we hit the floor, five to nine we reach up high.

So what number is 147 going to be rounded to? Absolutely, well done.

150.

What about this one? This is a tricky, tricky one.

Can you help me? 355, What are the nearest multiples of 10? You're right, it's 350 and 360, now 355 can sit right in the middle.

Ooh, what's the rhyme again? Oh, okay.

So five to nine we reach up high.

So they going to 355 rounded to the nearest multiple 10s is going to be, 360 great job.

Can you do this one? 206 rounded to the nearest multiple of 10.

The nearest multiples of 10 are going to be, You're right, 200 and 210.

Now what was the rhyme again? Well done.

If it's a six, we going to round it up so 206 rounded to the nearest multiple of 10, will be 210.

You guys are great at this Hmm my turn.

321 rounded to the nearest 10 is, well, I've got my number line here and I know my nearest multiples of 10 are going to be 320 and 330.

So now I need to put 321 on my number line and I know 321 is one more than 320.

So he's going to go sit there.

So 321 rounded to the nearest 10 is 320.

So here is your task today.

You have six different questions.

What you need to do is read the question, carefully, you're going to draw a number line on either end of the number line you're going to put the nearest multiples of 10.

You're going to plot the number on the number line and then finish the sentence.

For example, 213 rounded to the nearest 10 is and you're going to draw a lovely number line for me using a ruler and a very sharp pencil.

So remember to pause this video before completing your task.

Super job, let's go through them together.

So 213 rounded to the nearest 10 is 210 456 rounds to the nearest 10 is 460, 164 rounded to the nearest 10 is, 160.

542 rounds to the nearest 10 is 540.

771 rounded to the nearest 10 is 770 and 931 rounded to the nearest 10 is 930 Great job everyone, you've been brilliant today.

If you'd like to please ask who parent or carer to share your work, on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter tagging @OakNational and hashtag #LearnwithOak.

Now it's been super duper learning with you today.

And I hope you've given yourself the biggest pat on the back, if not do it now, give yourself an extra one and it's time to complete the quiz.

So good luck with the quiz and I'll see you in another lesson.

Take care.
