- Welcome to your Oak Machine lesson.

Stop Look Listen! Where we will be thinking about dangers that you might find outdoors.

Hello, and welcome to another session with me, Mrs. Mulla.

I wonder what adventure we'll be going on today, but before we go, I need to make sure you're all awake.

So this is what I want you to do.

I want you to pinch your nose.

That's right, pinch your nose.

With the other hand, I'd like you to hold your ear.

Now, swap over.

And again, and again.

Confusing, isn't it? Keep practising In today's lesson, you will need your looking eyes and listening ears.

A favourite teddy, a box, and some coloured playdough.

Pause the video and find your items, come back soon.

There are lots of places to play when you are out with your family, and it can be lots of fun, but to keep it fun, we need to be aware of the dangers around us.

Can you remember what dangers mean? Yes, it's when something or someone causes you harm, or you could get hurt by.

There are dangerous everywhere, and we need to follow a set of rules even when we're outdoors for our own safety.

My pictures show a few areas or a few spaces that we need to be alert and be careful, as there are lots of dangers around this space.

Let me explain why.

You need to look out for the dangers by the road.

It is unsafe because of parked and moving cars nearby.

The drivers cannot always spot you playing and this could mean you could get hurt.

The safety rules to follow by the road are to keep clear, stop, look, and listen out for the dangers.

Playing by the water can be dangerous.

The open water is not safe to play around, because it can be deep and you could fall into it causing harm to yourself.

The safety rules that you need to remember is be aware of the water.

Stop, look, and listen out for the dangers.

You might see and walk past the train track on your walks with your family.

But this is a dangerous place to be, because a train could come zooming past, and this could cause serious harm.

The safety rules for being around the train track is stay away.

Stop, look, and listen out for the dangers.

Have you seen this before? This is a building site and playing close by to this can be very dangerous.

There are lots of things here that can cause you harm and mean you could get badly hurt.

The safety rules for being around here is don't go near, stop, look, listen out for the dangers.

You would visit lots of car box like this with your family maybe, when you go shopping or at a restaurant.

And as fun as it can be to run and hide the car park is very dangerous.

Cars could move in and out of bays, turning corners.

We need to make sure we walk sensibly.

The safety rules for being in the car park is be alert.

Stop, look, and listen out for the dangers.

So what would be a safe place to play? My pictures show some safe places that we could enjoy.

Do you recognise any of them? The garden, the playground, the field, the bike track.

Let me explain why they are safe.

You might have a garden to the front of the house or may be at the back of the house or perhaps in both.

These are safe places to play and enjoy your games.

Have lots of fun.

A playground is a safe place to visit and play with, with your parent or carer.

There are different apparatus you could climb and slide from.

Keep yourself busy.

A field is a great open space to run and play games with your loved ones, your in sight of your parents at all times, and this will make sure you are safe to play.

Get running.

A bike track is a fun space to ride your bike, taking twists and turns and moving fast and slow.

You will be safe here, because this space is designed to ride your bike without the humps and bumps, so you can enjoy driving.

Pedal away.

Look at my picture, where is this? Shout it to the screen? Yes, that's right.

It's a building site.

It's a safe space.

Pause the video and tell teddy.

Well spotted.

No, it's not safe.

It is very dangerous.

How do you know? Pause the video and tell teddy.

You're right, there's lots of big machines out there and big piles of rubbish.

I can imagine there'll be lots of sharp things there that would cause us harm.

But what safety rules do we need to follow? Excellent, don't go near, and say with me, stop, look, and listen out for the dangers.

Well done, give yourself two claps.

Now, you know safe an unsafe spaces.

I would like you to create a model of a safe space.

I'm going to create a playground, and to do that, I've got my box ready and my different coloured playdough.

First, I'm going to get some black playdough and I'm going to squish it together, so it's all together and you can do this with me.

I'm going to roll it out to make it nice and long using both my hands.

Roll it, roll it, roll it.

Keep going until it's nice and thin Nearly there.

Okay, now I've got my frame, but before I put this in my box, I need to get a little bit more, not as much as I did last time and roll it again to make my swing.

Oh, it's coming apart.

Yours might come apart like this too.

I think I'm going to cut it in half and attach it to the top of my swing, to the swing.

There we have it, but I'm missing a seat.

Might choose the colour red for this.

Just got a little bit in my hand.

And for this, I'm going to use my rolling pin and I'm going to roll it out to make it nice and flat There we have it.

And with my playdough tools I'm going to cut a little triangle, rectangle should I say, not a triangle.

So it looks like that.

Now I have it I'm going to attach it to my two strands coming down.

There we have it, my swing ready to go in my playground.

I have included some more things in my playground.

Can you guess what this might be? It spins around and around.

That's right, it's a roundabout.

I really enjoy playing ball in the playground too.

There's my ball.

And finally, this apparatus here.

My slide with some steps to go up, you can get creative with your safe space.

I look forward to seeing them.

Pause the video and have a go.

Can you remember all the safe spaces that we've looked at today? There was the playground, the field, a garden, bike track, remembering that all of these places are safe to visit with a parent or carer.

I would like you to create your model today.

And here are the steps that you need to take to make it.

First, you need to choose a small box to build your model in.

Next, you will choose the colours of playdough that you will use to create your safe space.

Finally, you will roll, cut, shape your playdough to create the different parts to your safe space.

I look forward to seeing all your creations.

Wow, you have been amazing.

Well done for learning all about safe and dangerous places to play when you are outdoors.

There are some safety rules that we need to follow.

Can you remember what they are? That's right.

Stop, we need to stop and look out for any dangers, look around and check to see if it's safe.

Listen out for any strange sounds and always be in sight of your parent or carer and play close by.

There we have it, our safety rules to use when we are outside.

Can you say them again with me? Stop, look, and listen out for the dangers.

Great.

You have done some amazing work today.

I would love to see it all.

Ask a parent or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging @OakNational and #LearnwithOak.

See you soon!.
