Hello there.

I'm Mrs. Howley.

And usually my helper, Cedric, is here too.

I wonder where he is today.

Do you think you could call him for me? Let's try, one, two, three.

Cedric, Cedric.

Here he is.

He said it took him a long time to get here, because he moves quite slowly.

He is a snail.

Well, you're here now Cedric.

Let's get ready for our learning.

In today's lesson, we're going to act out and sing parts of the story.

"The Emperor's New Clothes." We're going to start with a nursery rhyme.

Then we're going to act out parts of the story.

And then we're going to sing about a character in the story, for this lesson, you may need a pencil and a piece of paper to write down your ideas.

You will need your brilliant brain, and you might want to bring a Teddy talk partner.

That will be especially important in today's lesson.

Pause the video now, so you can go and collect those things.

Then press play when you're ready.

In this unit, we've been singing the nursery rhyme, "Row Row Your Boat", but we've been recycling it for the story of "The Emperor's New Clothes." Can you remember our last verse? Don't worry if you've missed it, we'll give it a go now.

It was all about the tailor tricking the king.

♪Sew, sew, sew the clothes♪ ♪He wants something to wear♪ ♪Trick him with your clever plan♪ ♪And sew them within air♪ He did manage to trick the emperor, didn't he? Now I think we could sing about the emperor this time.

And we're thinking all about character.

What does the emperor do? He shows off, even though he's wearing his pants.

I think it could go like this.

Have a listen first.

♪Show, show off your clothes♪ ♪You think you are the best♪ ♪You don't realise you're in your pants and vest♪ ♪ Do you want to try that with me? Maybe just try the actions first.

So it goes like this, ♪Show, show off your clothes♪ ♪You think you are the best♪ ♪You don't realise you are in your pants and vest♪ ♪ Let's try that one more time.

If you've got the words, join in.

♪Show, show off your clothes♪ ♪You think you are the best♪ ♪You don't realise you're in your pants and vest♪ ♪ That emperor is really foolish, isn't he? I wonder what else we know about his character.

We've got a song about character.

It goes like this, ♪Character, how do we do it♪ ♪Character, how do we do it♪ ♪Character, how do we do it♪ ♪Let me show you how♪ ♪ We show what they say♪ ♪We show what they think♪ ♪We show what they do♪ ♪That's how we do it♪ So we think about what the character says, what the character thinks and what the character does.

We're going to explore that today, by using drama and acting out parts of the story.

Cedric, I need your help.

Right.

Which part of the story shall we zoom into first? Thinking about the character of the emperor.

That's a good idea.

Let's have Jimmy to the part of the story, where the stranger first offers the emperor some new clothes.

Right, Cedric.

Can you be the tailor? And I'll be the emperor.

I feel very important already.

What was that? You've got some new clothes for me.

I love new clothes.

What was that? They're made from the most amazing cloth? This sounds perfect to me.

It can only be seen by people who are clever.

Mmmh That sounds perfect to me.

I am very clever.

What was that? They're the best clothes? I must have the best.

Thanks Cedric.

Do you think you could try that phrase, feeling very important? My turn, your turn.

I must have the best.

Your turn.

The best.

You sounded very important.

Great.

So we thought about what the character of the emperor was thinking and what he might say.

Now, Cedric, which part of the story should we zoom into now so we can act it out and learn about character? What do you think? That's a really good idea.

Cedric thinks we should zoom into the part of the story where the servant comes back and tells the king that the clothes look magnificent.

That's a great idea.

So this time Cedric, you'd like to be the servant.

Okay, you be the servant.

I'll be the emperor.

Now, you come along.

Tell me what was the tailor doing? He was busy, sewing.

The cloth looks magnificent.

I'm so excited.

Do you think you could try that? My turn, your turn.

I'm so excited.

Your turn, I'm so excited.

You could try really showing excited on your face.

That's great.

Right Cedric, which part of the story should we act out now, I wonder.

The ending? Which part of the ending, Cedric? When the king, the emperor walks out in front of the crowd.

Okay.

We've thought about what the emperor says, what he might think or feel.

Let's think about what he does.

Cedric, can you be the crowd? Okay.

I'll be the emperor.

Walking out in my pants.

Let's think about what he might do.

What do you think he's doing? He's showing off, that's right.

Do you think you could show off, like the king? My turn, your turn.

Showing off.

I'm so great.

Could you have a try now? Brilliant.

Now it's your turn to have a go at acting out parts of the story.

Why don't you give it a go? Cedric, that's a really good tip.

Think about what the emperor might say, what he might do, or what he might think.

Have a go now, with your Teddy top partner Pause the video, then press play, when you're ready.

How did you get on? I hope you had fun.

I bet you made a really good emperor.

Now, we're going to sing now, what the characters might be thinking, about the emperor, when he comes outside in his pants.

I wonder what they might be thinking about the emperor.

What do you think Cedric? That's right.

He doesn't know.

He doesn't know the clothes aren't real.

I wonder if we could sing that.

I'll have a go and then you join in.

♪He doesn't know the clothes aren't real♪ ♪He doesn't know the clothes aren't real♪ ♪He doesn't know the clothes aren't real♪ ♪He doesn't know at all♪ Could you join in with me? ♪He doesn't know the clothes aren't real♪ ♪He doesn't know the clothes aren't real♪ ♪He doesn't know the clothes aren't real♪ ♪He doesn't know at all♪ We'll be doing some more drama in the next lesson of this unit.

All about the emperor and his new clothes.

You've had fun today, Cedric.

So have I, I hope you've had fun today.

What was your favourite part of the lesson, I wonder.

What was your favourite part the lesson Cedric? Pretending to be the king.

Yes, that was good fun.

I hope you have a lovely day.

And so do Cedric and we'll see you for the next lesson of this unit very soon.

Bye.
