Hello, and welcome to lesson seven of our explanation unit.

I'm Mrs. Howley and this is my helper, Cedric.

Now, today, Cedric keeps asking me, "Why? Why this, why that?" Can you remember how I can explain to him which special word I can use? That's right, the word because! In this lesson, we're going to box up an explanation, ready for writing, of why the king was amazed.

We're going to start with our nursery rhyme.

Then we're going to recap the explanation, and then we're going to create a box plan.

For this lesson, you will need a piece of paper and a pencil, you'll need your brilliant brain, and you might want to bring along a Teddy talk partner to help.

Pause the video now, if you'd like to collect any of those things.

Then press play when you're ready.

It's time for our nursery rhyme! In our last lesson, we started singing "I Can Sing A Rainbow." Let's practise that, and maybe you can show the rainbow with your hands.

♪ Red and yellow and pink and green ♪ ♪ Purple and orange and blue ♪ ♪ I can sing a rainbow ♪ ♪ Sing a rainbow ♪ ♪ Sing a rainbow too ♪ Now, I've been recycling that nursery rhyme all about the amazing things that happened to the king and the farmer.

A talking throne, a talking loaf of bread, a talking dog and the talking chicken! It goes like this.

Have a listen.

♪ A throne that talks and a loaf of bread ♪ ♪ A dog and a chicken too ♪ ♪ It was so amazing ♪ ♪ So amazing ♪ ♪ Are you amazed too ♪ Do you want to join in with me this time? It goes like this.

♪ A throne that talks and a loaf of bread ♪ ♪ A dog and a chicken too ♪ ♪ It was so amazing ♪ ♪ So amazing ♪ ♪ Are you amazed too ♪ I wonder what we can remember about the explanations.

I'm going to try and use a special word that we use when we're explaining.

Dr.

Explanation used it.

I wonder if you can remember what that word was.

Because, that's right! Remember the explaining song? It goes like this.

♪ Why, why, why did it happen ♪ ♪ How, how, how did it happen ♪ ♪ When we explain, we have to use ♪ ♪ Because, because, because ♪ So ask me some questions, Cedric, about the explanation, and I'll see if I can explain using the word because.

Why was the farmer scared? Because a dog spoke.

That's right! Why was the king amazed? Because, that's right, Cedric, because his throne spoke.

Now, earlier in this unit, we came up with some new ideas as to why the king might be amazed.

So first of all, the king was shocked.

Why was the king shocked? Because his crown ran away! Dear me.

He ran after it really fast.

Why? Because it was his favourite crown.

Then what happened? The king couldn't catch it! Why? Because it ran so fast! How do you think he felt when that happened, Cedric? Sad, that's right.

Why do you think he felt sad, Cedric? Because, because he loved that crown.

Well done.

And then finally, he was amazed because it ran back! We did a lot of explaining then, using the word because.

Now we're going to have a go at boxing up those ideas with pictures, maybe a few words, to help us when we're writing.

So, I'm going to start by drawing a line down the centre of my page.

And then I'm going to draw four lines going across, because for each idea, I'm going to think about the event and then think about why or how it happened.

So, first of all, we've got the king, and he is shocked.

He's shocked, draw his crown, and his big shocked face.

And he's shocked because his crown ran away.

Let's draw some jewels on, and a pair of feet to show that they've ran away.

Now, the next event is that the king, now without his crown, ran after the crown.

I'll draw some speed lines to show him running.

Why did he run after the crown? Because it was his best crown, and he loved it very much.

Now I'm going to draw a big heart to show how much he loved it, and I'm going to write the word "best," I'm going to robot the word.

Buh-est, best.

Buh-eh, buh-es, buh-est, best.

The third event that happened was that the king could not catch the crown.

I'm going to draw him running again.

And he's still chasing after the crown.

Why can he not catch it? Because the crown ran so fast! I'm going to draw an arrow there, and I'm going to write the word "fast." Can you robot it with me? Fuh-ast, fuh-ah, fuh-as, fast, fast.

Oh, how did the king feel when the crown ran away? He's lost his crown, so he feels sad.

Let's robot that word, suh-ah-duh.

Suh-ah, suh-ad, sad, sad.

And he's sad because he's lost his crown.

And I'm going to draw the line through the crown to show that he's lost it! And then finally, the king feels amazed.

Why did the king feel amazed? Let's see.

He felt amazed because his crown ran back! There it is with its little feet.

It's running back, put my jewels on, and I'm going to draw it running back onto the king's head.

So for each section, we've got what happened, and then we're showing why or how it happened.

Why don't you try now creating your own box plan for my idea, or maybe for your own idea to explain why the king was amazed.

That's a great idea, Cedric! You could even try writing some words using your phonics, but remember to say the word, robot the word, then write the word.

Have a go.

Pause the video and then press play when you're ready.

How did you get on? We've done such a lot of explaining in this lesson, using the word because.

We deserve a superstar cheer.

Are you ready? Super star! We cannot wait until lesson eight, because we're going to start writing our explanations, using the word because! We'll see you very soon.

Have a great day.

Bye!.
