Hi everyone my name is Miss Toole and this is Tabby Cat.

Tabby Cat and I love to go and explore in the outdoors and find out all about the world around us.

Now in this unit, we have been exploring explanation.

And can you remember why we explore explanation? It's to teach us how to explain something, focusing on the cause and the effect.

And we can use words like, because, so, as a result of, then, all of these words help to link the cause and effect.

So today our focus is going to be boxing up the cause and effect of our explanation text.

Can you remember what the focus of our text was? It's how to grow a bean.

So we are going to be boxing up how to grow a bean.

Let's take a look at what we're going to be doing today.

We're going to start off with a spelling activity focusing on our common exception words.

We're then going to have a quick recap of our explanation text, and then we're going to box up our purpose.

So today you're going to need an exercise book, a pencil, and your amazing brain.

So pause now, go grab your resources and then press play when you're ready to go.

Before we start our spellings, we're going to have a little bit of a role play game.

So Tabby Cat and I are playing together, and if you want to, you can go and grab your teddy when you go to have a go and play with your teddy.

I am going to explain to Tabby cat, how he can grow his own bean.

Now we have looked at this in lots of detail and we know the different steps that are needed in order to go over a single bean into a beanstalk.

So I'm going to use what we've learned to explain it to Tabby Cat.

So all right my dear.

Right, Tabby Cat are you listening? Super, listen up.

Tabby Cat, if you want to grow your own bean stock, this is what you need to do.

You need to start off with a single bean and you plant your single bean into the ground.

Not too deep, just about two centimetres down.

You need to make sure that the soil is warm and damp when you do put it into the ground.

And then pat it down to keep it safe.

Now your bean needs to be in a place where it's going to get sunlight, because the sunlight helps it to get food.

And once the sun shines on the plant, the leaves take in all the food and it helps your bean to grow into a big tall beanstalk.

And then once your beanstalk is nice and tall Tabby Cat, you then start to get the flowers onto it.

And the flowers attract the bees.

And because the bees come onto your flower, they leave what we call pollen behind.

And the pollen turns the flower into a bean and then we wait for the bean to ripe.

And once the beans are nice and ripe, as a result of this, we can either pick them and eat them and enjoy, or you can plant them again and grow more beans.

And that Tabby Cat is how you can grow your own beanstalk.

Okay, have a go at home, explaining into your Teddy how they could grow that own beanstalk.

We're now going to have look at our spellings.

In this unit, we have been focused on common exception words.

Now, common exception words can also be known as tricky words because we can't sound them out, we've just got to know them.

So we look at them and we say.

We look and we say.

And when we come to spell them, we spell them using their letter names, not the sound.

Now the words I'm going to show you today, we have already looked at in the unit.

I am going to say, say the word, and I would like you to have a go at spelling it, writing it down, and then I will show you on the screen.

If you need a bit more time before I show you, just press pause and then press play once you have written the word down.

And I really want you to think about what you can hear when I'm saying the word.

Cause remember it's not always the sound, but the first sound might give you a little bit of a clue.

Okay, so the first word I'd like you to write down please is she.

She.

She wanted to plant a beanstalk, she.

Have you written it down? Let's have a look.

She.

s-h-e.

She.

Have a look what you have written down if it's correct, well done.

If you've made a little bit of a mistake, don't worry, just write it next to it correctly.

She, s-h-e, she.

Good, the next word is some.

Some.

Some of the beans are planted in the ground and some are eaten, some.

Think about the letters in the word some.

Are you ready? Some.

S-o-m-e, some.

Have a look at what you have written down.

If you need to make some corrections, that's okay.

That's how we learn.

Some.

Next word, they.

They.

They waited for the bees to come and leave their pollen.

They.

They.

Are you ready? Let's have a look.

They.

T-h-e-y.

They.

T-h-e-y, they.

Super.

Next word, full.

Full.

The ground was full of beans.

Full.

Are you ready? Full.

F-u-l-l.

F-u-l-l.

Full.

Have a look at what you've written down and see if you need to make any corrections.

Next word, said.

Now this is a tricky one, said.

I love to grow beans said Professor Hasbean.

Said.

Are we ready? Let's have a look at how we spell said.

S-a-i-d.

Said.

S-a-i-d.

Said.

Super, well done.

'Cause that one is really tricky.

So well done for having a go.

And our final word is, we.

We.

We can't wait till our beans are ready to be eaten.

We.

Have a go writing it down, we.

What letter spell the word we? Let's have a look.

We, w-e.

We.

Well done.

Thank you for joining in because they are really tricky words.

And we're trying really hard to remember how to spell them.

Now, I would like you to have a go at picking two of the words and putting them into a sentence.

So I gave you some examples when I was giving you the words.

See if you can write down your sentence.

Now, remember we looked at previously in this unit when you're writing a sentence, what needs to go at the end of the information.

A full stop.

So when you put your sentences, make sure you've got a full stop at the end.

Off you go.

Before we box up our explanation.

I wanted to, to have a quick go at retelling our explanation in the role of professor Hasbean just to refresh our memory.

So we know when we come to fill out our box up what our points are, Hello everybody, my name is professor Hasbean, and I'm here to explain to you how beans can grow from a single bean to a Beanstalk.

First the plant is planted in the ground around two centimetres below the surface.

If the soil is damp or more then the bean will come to life.

And the roots grow down and the shoots come above the ground.

When the sunlight shines on the shoot leaves come out.

As a result, the plant is able to make food from sunlight because leaves are able to do this.

The food leads to more and more growth of the roots and the shoots, so the plant gets bigger and bigger and taller and taller.

When the time is right, little flowers appear, which attract bees with a nice smell.

The bees visit the flowers.

and leave a powder behind pollen.

Which amazingly causes a flower to turn into a bean.

Finally, when the beans are ripe, they can be picked and eaten or planted in the soil to make more beanstalk.

And that time it works.

That's how a beanstalk grows from a single bean.

If you don't believe me, try and grow one for yourself.

Now that we have retold explanation, we're going to have a look at the box of purpose.

Now, can you remember the purpose of an explanation text? It's to explain how something happens using the cause and effect.

So our box up is going to focus on the cause and effect of our explanation on how to grow a bean.

So you are going to need to draw a table like the one on the slide in your book, on your piece of paper.

So pause now to do that.

And once you have your table complete, you can press play, and we will complete it together.

Now that you have your box up grid, we can start looking at the cause and effect.

Now, previously in this unit, we have looked at the different stages of our bean growing into a plant.

And throughout our explanation, it tells us the effects of certain things have on our bean.

So I'm going to model the first one for you, and then we're going to do the rest together.

And I'm going to leave the last two effects for you to have a go at home.

So the first cause, the first thing that happens in our explanation is that the seed is planted.

Now there needs be certain conditions for our seed when it's planted, can you remember what they are? It's warm damp soil.

Now when we're doing our box up, we can use pictures, or word or phrases.

So I am going to draw my seed being planted, and I'm going to write the word "warm" and I'm going to write the word "damp".

So that I know that the soil, needs to be warm and damp.

Now the effect of having warm and damp soil.

So what happens to our seed? Can you remember? So because the seed is planted in warm damp soil, what happens? The bean comes to life.

Well done.

So the effect is our bean starting to come to life.

We have roots shooting down and we have a little bit of a shoot coming out of the ground.

So the cause, so what happens is, the seed is planted in warm damp soil.

And because of that, we then start to see our bean come to life.

So the next cause, what's the next thing that helps our bean? Can you remember? It's our sun, and what part of our plant is a sun effecting? It's the leaves.

Good.

We've got our leaves.

So the sun shines on the leaves.

And as a result of the sun shining on the leaves, what happens next? What's the effect of that? What does the plant get? It starts to make food.

So I'm just going to write the word "food".

Now you can copy mine.

Or, you can do your own.

That's absolutely fine.

So we've got food.

Okay.

Third thing.

So it started off being planted and we get sun light.

And then it started to produce the food.

So what happens, what happens to the plant? The plant then takes a lot of the food.

Okay? So our seed and our root and our leaves, start to really eat the food, so again I'm going to write "the food".

So the cause is the plant starts to eat the food.

That has been made from the sunlight.

And then what happens? Because the plant is eating the food.

What happens to our beanstalk? Can you remember? What's the effect? It.

Good.

It gets taller and taller and taller.

So I'm going to draw a big beanstalk, just going to write the word "tall" next to it.

Was the effect of eating all the food is that our beanstalk gets tall.

Right.

I'm going to look at the next two causes I'd like you to have a go at filling out the effect.

So once our beanstalk gets tall, what then happens to beanstalk? What starts to appear? Can you remember? Good.

We get little flowers, we get little flowers, starting to appear on our beanstalk.

Okay.

What is the effect? Because I've got flowers.

What then happens? Can you remember? So here you going to draw that picture or who comes to the flowers? We've got bees come to the flowers and what did they leave? Bees leave their, p-p-pollen, which helps the flower turn into a b-b-b-bean.

So here, I want you to draw a picture to show the bees leaving the pollen and helping the flower turn into bean.

Or you can write some key words, that's fine.

Then once it's turned into a bean, what's our next cause? What's the next thing that happens? We have to wait for our bean to ripen.

We have to wait for our bean to become ripe.

So I'm going to draw my bean and I'm going to write the word ripe.

'Kay? So we wait for our bean to become ripe and then once it's ripe what's the next, what's the effect? Because the bean is ripe, we can.

The bean is ripe, so.

Then we'll use another word because, so, as a result of, As a result of the beans being ripe, we can.

What can we do, We can, eat them.

We can plant them again.

So here I want you to draw me a picture of eating and planting them.

Or write the key words.

So pause the video now and have a go at filling out your box up.

And the last two ones there.

Off you go.

How did you get on with completing your box up? And I've just added in my last two pictures to show the effect of what happened in the cause bit.

So have a look at yours and see how you got on with mine.

And maybe you could use your box up to explain to people in your house, the cause and effect of how to grow a bean.

So because it's got warm and damp soil, the seed comes to life.

Because the sunlight shines on the leaves, the plant makes food.

Because the plant eats lots of food, the beanstalk grows taller.

Because the plant starts to grow taller, And as a result of that, we start to see little flowers.

The flowers attract the bees, so they leave that pollen behind.

And because their pollen is left on the plant, it turns a flower to a seed.

And then as a result of the seed, the bean seed being left, we wait for it to be ripe, and then we can either eat it or we can plant it again.

And that's our box up to show cause and effect.

How would an explanation we have the different stages of cause and effect.

Thank you for joining in with that today.

And I hope you really enjoyed it.

Let's give ourselves a firework hurray for our hard work.

Are we ready? Hurray! Well done, right to finish.

We are going to do a little bit of mime movement.

So you need a space, check with an adult in your house to make sure it's a safe space.

You don't need to move around, you're just going to be staying on the spot, but just make sure you are safe.

And now we can start our mime movement.

So what I want you to do is get into the role of being the bean.

And we are going to go through the stages of the bean, starting as a seed, growing into beanstalk, with the flowers, turning back into beans and becoming ripe.

Okay? So think about it.

How does the bean start? We need to get really low down to start our bean in the soil.

And there we've got to start to grow.

And what pops out to help us? Our leaves, and what does the leaves start to get sunlight It grows food so were going really tall.

So go really tall And your leaves out And then who starts to comes to our leaves? We have our flowers, show me your flowers.

We attract the bees and the bees help our flowers turn into beans.

And then our beans become ripe again.

And then we can either be picked, or someone picks one bean and then were going to get this bean picked.

Good.

And then our beans that have been picked, turn back into beans, planted in the ground so go back to being a bean in the ground.

Amazing.

Well done.

Thank you for joining with me and I hope you enjoyed our lesson today because I certainly did.

And I hope to you again, in the next lesson in this unit.

See you later.
