In today's lesson we are going to start off by singing a nursery rhyme then we are going to tell the story and we'll finish with a reading challenge.

Wonder if you can notice anything different about the picture next to where I have written tell the story? Hmm I wonder why I've done that? Today's nursery rhyme is Humpty Dumpty.

♪ Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty had a great fall ♪ ♪ All the kings horses and all ♪ ♪ The kings men couldn't put Humpty ♪ ♪ Together again ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty had a great fall ♪ ♪ All the kings horses and all ♪ ♪ The kings men couldn't put Humpty ♪ ♪ Together again.

♪ Should we try that one more time? ♪ Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty had a great fall ♪ ♪ All the kings horses and all ♪ ♪ The kings men couldn't put Humpty ♪ ♪ Together again.

♪ Close you eyes and picture Humpty Dumpty.

What does he look like? What does he feel like? What does he sound like? I'm not sure if I can imagine what he tastes and smells like.

It might be tricky to imagine Humpty Dumpty because the nursery rhyme doesn't describe him.

I would like you to try now to draw a picture of Humpty Dumpty using your imagination.

You can pause the video now while you draw it.

Here's my drawing of Humpty Dumpty.

It's just one I've done very quickly.

I wonder if it looks similar to yours.

Now let's think of some words to describe Humpty Dumpty hmm I think he is round.

Humpty Dumpty is big or small? Humpty Dumpty is big.

Humpty Dumpty is smooth or rough? I think Humpty Dumpty is smooth.

Humpty Dumpty is shiny.

Can you think of any other words to describe Humpty Dumpty? Maybe you can write them down on your picture.

Now today when we tell the story we are going to do it a little bit differently.

If you're in lesson 1, 2, or 3 you'll of heard me tell the story and you'll have had a go at telling it yourself.

I'm going to tell you the story again but this time it's going to be quite different.

Now the way I'm going to tell the story is I'm going to tell the story through a song.

It's important that I tell you here that I'm not a singer and actually I don't always feel like I'm very good at singing but I know that singing is a really good way of learning something and I also find singing fun so even if you don't feel like your a very good singer you can still join in or you can listen.

♪ Once there was a ginger bread man ♪ ♪ Out of the oven and off he ran ♪ ♪ The old lady chased him but she ♪ ♪ Couldn't catch up he ran till ♪ ♪ He came to a hungry cat stop ♪ ♪ Said the cat I am hungry you ♪ ♪ Would taste nice for my tea ♪ ♪ He ran and said oh no you cannot ♪ ♪ Catch me he ran till he came up to ♪ ♪ A dog stop said the dog I am ♪ ♪ Hungry you would taste nice for ♪ ♪ My tea he ran and said oh no you ♪ ♪ Cannot catch me he ran until he came ♪ ♪ Up to a cow stop said the cow ♪ ♪ I am hungry you would taste nice ♪ ♪ For my tea he ran and said oh no ♪ ♪ You cannot catch me he ran until ♪ ♪ He came up to a fox jump on my ♪ ♪ Tail said the fox I will take you ♪ ♪ Over the river he jumped on his tail ♪ ♪ And the little fox swam out into the ♪ ♪ Deep water now jump on my back said ♪ ♪ The fox I am sinking into the river ♪ ♪ He jumped on his back as the little ♪ ♪ Fox swam out into the deep water ♪ ♪ Now jump on my head said the fox ♪ ♪ I am sinking into the river he ♪ ♪ Jumped on his head as the little fox ♪ ♪ Swam out into the deep water ♪ ♪ Now jump on my nose fox shook ♪ ♪ His nose up ginger bread man flew ♪ ♪ Up there then down in his mouth ♪ ♪ The little man went that was ♪ ♪ The end of the gingerbread man.

♪ Now that you have listened to me tell the story through a song you may choose to go back and listen to it again.

Next we are going to be thinking about some of the lyrics in the song.

Do you know what a lyric is? Lyrics are the words in songs and it could also mean a part of a poem.

On the screen I have put a lyric from the song.

When we are reading we look at the letters make the sounds and blend the sounds together.

Can you say that with me? We look at the letters make the sounds and blend the sounds together now I'm going to use my mouse to show you you can use your finger on the screen.

Stop Now here we have one of our tricky words we just have to know this word.

Said can I hear you say it? Said stop said another tricky word.

We just have to know this one, The.

Stop said the cat.

Well done let's read it all together.

Stop said the cat Now can you have a go at drawing a picture to match my lyric? Now we are going to draw a picture to match the lyric.

I've drawn my picture and you can see it on the screen.

I've drawn a picture of a cat with quite a chubby face and very pointy ears saying stop.

Pause the video now to draw your picture.

There's another lyric from the song on your screen but this time I'm not going to read it with you I would like you to have a go at reading the lyric yourself and remember when were reading we look at the letters make the sounds and blend the sounds together.

I would like you to read that lyric and draw a picture to match it.

You can pause the video to complete you task.

I'd love to see some of the pictures you've drawn today if you'd like to please ask your parent or carer to share your work on Instagram Facebook or Twitter tagging @OakNational and #LearnwithOak.

In our next lesson I'm going to be joined by a very special teddy talk partner.

See you then.
