Hello.

I'm Adam and this is Panda and we are on unit three, lesson three using the story, The Little Red Hen.

Lets see what's on the agenda today.

The first thing we're going to do today is to warm up the story by singing the song of the little red hen, only now, because you've heard it once before, you can join in with more of the actions and more of the singing.

After that we are going to step the story, and our challenge today, is to step the story focusing on character.

Okay, let's start with the song.

Well you can see for the warm up today I've chosen to stand up.

That's because I want to use all of my body to tell the story and I want to show the character of the little red hen.

So, she's determined, no one's going to help her.

So when the animals say, "Not I," said the cow.

"Not I," said the dog.

"Not I," said the mouse.

She could be a little bit cross Well I won't ask again, well I won't ask again.

Should do that together, "Well I won't ask again" said the little red hen.

So we can do that can't we? To show that we're a bit cross, but to be determined, we need to concentrate.

So when we're sowing the seeds, and when we're chopping the wheat, and we're grinding the grain and we're baking the bread maybe we can furrow our brows, snarl our noses a little bit, and look like we're really concentrating.

Because to be determined you really have to work hard.

Okay, I think we're ready to sing the song and do the actions again.

Thinking about the character of the little red hen.

Okay, here we go.

Stepping the story, three, two.

You can see that I'm standing up again, well you don't have to stand up yourself just yet.

I'm going to show you what we're going to do next.

Now some of you may have done this before, but if you haven't, let me explain.

We're going to imagine that there are some paving stones around, square or round.

But I'm going to walk around these paving stones trying not to put my foot in the cracks.

And each time I put my foot on a paving stone I'm going to do an action that helps me remember the main things that happened in the story.

So the first time, I might just do it like this, concentrating on the events, the things.

Here we go.

Once upon a time there was a little red hen.

She wanted to make bread.

First, she sowed the seeds.

Next, she chopped the wheat.

After that, she ground the grain to make flour.

Then, she baked a loaf of bread.

Finally, who'd like some bread? Mm-mm, I'll eat it all myself.

They were the main things that happened.

She wanted to make bread, she sowed the seeds, she chopped the wheat, she ground the grain and she baked the bread.

And we'll do it again, and if you want to you can join in with me, although I am going to pause it for you to practise on your own afterwards.

But this time, let's think about her character.

The little red hen, when she first asked for help, she might've been in a good mood.

Who will help me? But then they all said no.

Maybe, each time, she gets more and more determined.

I wonder if I could show that when I'm stepping? First let's do it together.

Once upon a time, there was a little red hen, wanted to make bread.

First, she sowed the seeds by herself.

After that she chopped the wheat all by herself.

After that, she had to grind the grain all by herself.

Then she had to bake the loaf all by herself! Finally, the loaf was ready.

Who would help me eat it? Well you can't! I made it all myself so I'll eat it all myself.

And that was that.

I think she became a little bit crosser as the story went on.

And more and more determined as the story went on.

Now in a minute, I'm going to pause the video for you to step the story.

So, each time you do a step, try and remember what happened.

Hen, sowing seeds, chopping wheat, grinding grain, making bread.

Who would like it? She ate it herself.

And once you've had a practise, come back and we'll talk about the story and the character of the little red hen some more.

Good luck, time to work now.

So how was that, stepping out the story? Did you have to really concentrate and work hard? Maybe you forgot things sometimes and had to go back and do it again.

Being determined is a really good thing when we're learning.

So, what have we learned today? We started with singing the little red hen song, which helped us learn the story and we also thought about how we might show being cross and being determined when we do things, which is the character of the little red hen.

And then we worked out how to step the story using actions and some words, but mainly showing the little red hen's character, her determination.

Well, my challenge to you is that before we meet again, find something where you have to be really determined to finish the job and do it well.

Panda and I, we're looking forward to the next session.

We're going to do some more acting thinking about character, but until then, enjoy learning and enjoy showing your work to others.

Until then, bye bye.
