Hello everyone.

And welcome to your final lesson of the unit with me, Miss Sidenius.

Today, we're going to be thinking about important transitions, especially one that you're going to be going through very soon.

We're going to start today's lesson by thinking about some of the transitions that you've already experienced in your life.

Then we're going to create a transition picture, and we're going to share that picture with our new teacher, class, or somebody in our household.

So for this lesson, you're just going to need two things, some paper and some colours.

Pause the video here, get those two things, and come back when you're ready.

Star words, star words, star words.

My turn, transition.

Transition.

Transition means passing from one place or stage of your life to another.

We're going to have a look at some of the different transitions that you might've experienced in today's lesson.

Can you think of any transitions that you've been through in your life so far? Any big changes that have happened to you? Tell your screen.

That's right.

You might've moved house.

You might have had a new baby in the family, and you might have even started school, changed schools, or changed classes as well.

All of these things are big changes that can make us feel lots of different ways inside.

But transitions don't always have to be really big things that happen in our lives.

They can be smaller things as well that mainly happen when we're growing up from being a baby into a toddler and a child.

Can you think of any of those things that might have happened when you were growing up? Tell your screen.

That's right.

You might have stopped using your potty and your nappies and just be going to the toilet on your own now.

You might have given up your dummy or a bottle, and you might be growing up and be able to do more things all by yourself.

All of these things might seem like really small changes that happened a long time ago now, but actually that all an important part of growing up.

They help us to become more independent so that we can do more things all by ourselves as we get older.

That doesn't mean that we always feel good about transitions and change.

In fact lots of the time, transitions can make us feel nervous or excited, even if it's a smaller transition like giving up your dummy or your bottle or a much bigger change, like moving house or school.

It can make us feel funny inside when these changes happen.

You might feel nervous or worried about the change.

Big changes like moving house and starting school or nursery can make you feel nervous or worried because you don't know what it's going to be like when you get there.

You might feel sad that you'll be leaving an old house or an old nursery or school where you already had friends and rooms and toys that you like to play with.

All of these feelings are totally normal, and adults can feel like that too.

The best thing you can do when you get that feeling like you're having a nervous feeling in your tummy or like there are butterflies flying around in your tummy is to go and find an adult that you know and love, and you can speak to.

If you tell someone how you're feeling, they can help you to feel better.

We all have questions when we're going through a transition because we don't really know what it's going to be like.

And an adult can help you by answering your questions or even just giving you a cuddle and listening to how you feel.

Can you think of a time when you had nervous butterflies in your tummy? Tell your screen.

So many of us have had this feeling before.

I felt like that too when I became a teacher.

I had lots of nervous butterflies in my tummy because I didn't know all of the children, and I didn't know all of the other teachers that I would be working with.

But soon enough, I joined school, and I loved all of the children in my class.

And I became really good friends with some of the teachers as well.

When you had that nervous feeling in your tummy, did it go away once you started and once you got settled into your new life? That's right.

We will feel nervous when we don't know what's going to happen, but usually it all works out in the end.

Sometimes you might not feel nervous about change.

You might feel really excited.

There are usually very good reasons for change.

When we grow up and transition from using the potty to the toilet or give up a bottle or a dummy, it's all because we're growing up, and we're becoming more independent, which is really good.

We don't need those things anymore because we can do more things on our own.

And we're getting too big for those things anyway.

Bigger changes like having a new baby in the family might feel really strange at first because you might have to share your toys and your family.

But actually, it's really exciting.

Because when you get older, you'll have someone to play with.

Do any of you have a baby brother or sister in your house? And how did you feel when they were born? Lots of you were saying you felt nervous or excited.

Will you love your baby brother or sister? Even though it might be hard to share sometimes, I'm sure you actually think it's really fun to have them around.

Starting school can also be really exciting because you will learn so many new things, make so many friends, and have lots of chances to play with your friends at school too.

Most of the time, I think people feel nervous and excited.

In fact, I'm sure lots of you will be feeling nervous and excited about a change that's probably going to happen quite soon.

You might be starting a new year at school or moving up into a different year at school.

You might feel excited about having a new teacher and all of the new things that you're going to learn, but you might also feel sad that you're leaving your old teacher behind and your old classroom as well.

And that's okay to feel both of those things.

You might feel nervous because you don't know your new teacher or your new classroom as well either.

But remember, you can always tell an adult how you are feeling so that they can help you to feel better about that change.

Your new teacher will be feeling really excited to meet you.

And I'm sure they would like to know a bit more about you as well.

Today, we're going to draw something special for our new school, classroom, or teacher that tells the teacher all about us.

Your new teacher might even want to display it on the wall.

And then when you go in on your first day, you'll be able to recognise something, and it will make you feel a bit more safe and comfortable in your new classroom.

So we're going to create a picture for our new classroom that we can share with our teacher.

We want the picture to tell the teacher as much as we can all about us so that they can get to know us, and we can feel safe knowing that they already know quite a lot about us when we get into the classroom.

So I'm going to start by drawing myself in the middle of the page.

You might want to draw yourself wearing your favourite outfit so that your teacher can see how you like to dress when you're not at school.

I'm going to wear some, T-shirt and some jeans 'cause that's my favourite thing to wear when I'm not at school.

So I've got me in the middle.

And I'm going to actually put some other things on my picture that tells my teacher about me as well.

So I might include things that I love.

Just going to draw my face first and a big smile to show that even though I'm a bit nervous, I am really happy to be joining a new class as well.

And I'm going to draw some love hearts up here to show that these are the things that I love.

Now, I love reading so I'm going to draw a book, and I love animals as well.

So I'm going to draw a doggy and a cat too.

'Cause I love lots of different animals.

Do you have a favourite animal? Maybe you could draw your favourite animal too.

And you can draw your favourite thing that you like to do on the weekend or after school.

Some of you might like to play sport.

Some of you might like to play games when you get home or do drawing and colouring.

I'm sure lots of you love to do reading as well.

It's got a doggy and a cat.

And I'm also going to give myself a nose.

And I think what else should I let my teacher know.

I think she might like to know what I'm good at as well.

So on the other side of my piece of paper, I'm going to draw a thumbs up like this to show that I'm good at these things.

I think I'm quite good at sharing when I play.

So I'm going to draw my hand and a toy in the middle, and I'm going to draw my friend's hand on the other side to show that we're sharing the toy.

I like sharing because it means that I get to play with lots of my other friends.

And I think I'm quite good at writing as well.

So I'm going to draw a pencil and some lines to show that I'm quite good at writing.

What else might my teacher like to know about me? Hmm.

She might like to know about my family, the people that I live with in my house.

So I'm going to write family, F-A-M-I-L-Y, family, and I'm going to draw all of the people in my family that live in my house with me, my mom, my dad.

My dad's very tall so I've drawn him taller than my mom.

And they've got happy faces as well.

And I have two sisters.

So I've got three girls in my family, me and my two sisters.

That's three altogether.

So one, two, and three.

So I've drawn about my family.

I've drawn about the things that I love and have drawn about the things that I think I'm good at.

And I've drawn me in the middle as well.

So pause the video here.

Draw some things that you love, some things about your family, and some things that you think you're good at on your picture and pause the video and press play when you're finished.

Great job, everyone.

This is going to tell your teachers so much information about you ready for the next year.

The last thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to write how I'm feeling about starting next year so that my teacher will know what to expect when I come in.

I'm going to write I feel, F-E-E-L F-E-E-L feel.

I'm going to be honest.

I feel nervous and excited, nervous and A-N-D and A-N-D and excited.

So that when my teacher meets me, she knows that I'll be feeling a little bit nervous as well as excited.

So she might be a little bit extra nice to me on my first day.

I feel nervous and excited.

Pause the video here.

Write how you're feeling on the back of your picture and press play when you're finished.

Well done, everyone.

You should be so proud of your lovely picture.

I know your new teacher is going to love it, and I'm sure they'll find a space for it in the classroom.

It's going to tell them so much about you ready for next year.

And I think your teacher knowing all of that information will really help them to settle you in.

Have a really great holiday and enjoy your next year.

Bye everyone.
