Hello everyone, welcome back to another lesson with me, Miss Sidenius.

Today, I'm really excited because we are going to be learning all about our communities.

The places that are close to our home.

We're going to start today's lesson by thinking about some of the different places you might find in your community.

Then, we're going to go on to talk about your favourite places in your community.

And finally, we're going to map those places.

We're going to draw a map together of all of your favourite places in your community.

In this lesson, your only going to need 2 things: some paper, and some pens or pencils.

So pause the video here, make sure you've got those things, and come back when you're ready.

Star words! Star words! Star words! My turn, community.

Your turn.

Community.

A community is a group of people living in the same place or with the same values or beliefs.

A community might be based on religion, or it might be based on a group of people who speak the same language.

Or even, people that you go to the school with.

So thinking about your own community, where we live is often where we see other people in our community, and we talk to them, and we do things with people in our community.

Hmm.

can you think of any places that you visit in your community? Have a think! Tell your screen.

You might go to the library to borrow some books! Or you might go food shopping with your adult, or your carer.

You might go to school and see your friends, and your teachers within your community.

You might even have some nice restaurants or cafes that you can go to in your community as well.

Another place where large groups of people often meet within a community are religious places of worship! Can you think of any places of worship in your community? Tell your screen.

I heard so many different ideas! You might visit a mosque, you might visit a temple.

You might visit a church or a synagogue.

You might even visit another place of worship, or you may not visit any places of worship at all.

But you will probably have some in your community that you can recognise, or that you've walked past before.

So we've already talked about shops, schools, libraries, places of worship.

Can you think of any other fun places that you like to meet up with your friends or your family in your community? Have a think.

Tell your screen.

So many exciting places.

I wonder if some of them you can spot on the screen we've got cinemas, you might go watch a film at the cinema in your community.

You might even be lucky enough to have a park or a playground in your community.

Or a bowling alley, where you can go and do bowling with your friends.

You could even have a swimming pool where you can lucky enough to learn to swim in your community.

In you live in the countryside, you might have lots of lovely woodlands or forests that you can go for walks and adventures in.

All these places are really important parts of our community.

Now, I want to have a think about your favourite places in your community.

Where do you like to go the most? Have a little think about it.

I can tell you that I love to go to the duck pond near my house.

And, I love to go food shopping.

I love to go and buy lots of different types of food to try for my lunch, and my dinner.

I also like to go and visit cafes near my house.

I like to get a nice, warm hot chocolate with my friends.

And, one of my other favourite places is the library.

I like to go and borrow lots of different books that I read at bedtime.

These are my favourite places in my community.

What are your favourite places? Tell your screen.

Well done.

So now that we know what our favourite places are, it's time for us to draw our map.

So you can see, I'm starting off by drawing my house.

I'm just going to draw a little house at the bottom of the page.

And then, I'm going to think about where the different places are in my community.

So I come out of my house, and I go left, so I'm drawing a line, like a path, to the left.

And there, I'm going to draw.

What do you think it might be? Hmm.

its got a clock tower at the top.

It's not a church.

It's actually my library.

So I've gone out of my house, and I've walked down the road to my library.

Just drawing the windows on as well, and I think I might do a sign to say that that's the library.

And I'm going to draw a book as well so that everybody knows that's the library.

Now, where else am I going to draw? What did I tell you my favourite places were? I had the library.

Oh, the park! I had the park as well.

And its actually on a hill.

So I've drawn some hills, with some trees, to show its a lovely green outdoor space.

I like to cycle up to the park near my house.

And I've got some ducks in a duck pond.

So I'm going to draw the little ducks swimming in the pond now.

There we go.

Where else did I say was one of my favourite places? The library, the park, I know! The food shop! I love to go food shopping.

So I'm going to draw a really big supermarket.

And a big roof, and some big doors to get a big trolley through.

That's the big sign over the supermarket.

And, I think I'll draw some food underneath it as well.

Just so we know that this is where I do my food shopping.

Got a banana, and a carrot, and.

I think I'll draw a chocolate bar as well.

For when I feel like having a tasty snack.

I've got the library, I've got the park.

I have the supermarket.

Oh yes! I also like to go and drink a: Hot chocolate at the cafe.

So the cafe has really large windows that you can see in, and order your food.

I'm going to draw a cup of hot chocolate.

Mmm.

I'm even going to put some steam coming of the top of my cup, so that you can see that it's really warm.

And maybe I'll put a nice piece of cake, or a croissant as well because sometimes I like to get that with my hot chocolate.

And there you go, I've drawn a map of my favourite places in my community.

Now it's your turn to draw a map of your favourite places in your community.

So pause the video here, draw your map, and come back when you're finished.

Great job everyone.

I bet those maps are looking really special.

Now let's see if we can challenge ourselves to try and label some of the places.

Remember that was a shop.

And that was a library.

Park.

And the last one was a cafe.

So I've just done the first sound for some of the words that I've found a bit tricky.

But if you think you can write the whole word, challenge yourself.

So pause the video here, label your map, and come back when your finished.

Excellent job, everyone.

I'm so proud of you for challenging yourself to label your map, as well as drawing it.

Now, having a look at your map, I wonder if you can tell me : what are your favourite places in your community? You can use your map to help you.

Tell your screen.

My favourite places are.

It's so great to hear that you all have so many different favourite places in your community.

And they change, depending if you live in a town, or a city, or a village, or if you live way out in the countryside, all on your own.

I hope you enjoyed today's lesson, all about your community.

Make sure that you go share your map with somebody in your household, a teddy, or a toy.

You can even ask them, "What are your favourite places in the community?" And see if they like the same places as you, or if they have a different favourite place.

Well done everyone, see you next time!.
