Hello there, I'm Adam and this is Panda and we are on unit two, lesson 10 using the story bat learns to dance.

Let's see what's on the agenda today.

We're going to start with a musical word game today before moving on to the big challenge of the session, telling our new story, our knew recycled story from bat learns to dance independently.

We've been working together with words listening out for the sound of rhymes when we hear them but also to the rhythm of words and in particular why we've been looking at this story, mini beasts.

So I'm going to say a mini beast name we're going to try and hear how many claps are in that word.

Millipede, millipede millipede I hear three.

Do you? Millipede.

Millipede.

Would you like to clap with me? Millipede.

Millipede.

Good.

Now listen again.

Beetle beetle.

How many do you hear? Beetle I hear two beetle beetle millipede millipede beetle I've got another one, a shorter one.

Snail snail snail I only hear one on that one.

Do you Panda? Should we do the three together? Millipede millipede beetle beetle snail I'm now going to give you a big challenge.

Panda likes this challenge.

I'm going to show you the picture of three different mini beasts and then I'm going to clap one of them and I'd like you to try and guess which one Panda's going to tell me to clap.

You all right with that Panda? Okay, here are the pictures.

So we've got three mini beasts here, we've got butterfly, spider, slug.

Panda's going to whisper me one and I'm going to clap the rhythm of that mini beast.

Which one of those three has two claps butterfly, spider, slug? Spider spider.

Good.

Give me another one Panda.

Okay.

Do you know which one? Butterfly butterfly oh, we all know the last one, slug Should we do the three together? Butterfly butterfly spider spider slug.

Well done.

That was clapper word.

And so to the big challenge of this unit.

We've been working towards you being able to tell this recycled story, this new story that we've created called beetle learns to eat, that we made up using the story bat learns to dance.

And so far we have listened to the story, we've mapped the story, we've stepped the story, we've acted it out without speaking and now we're approaching the time where you're going to have a go at telling the story to a talk partner or a talk teddy.

Just before you do, would you like to hear it one more time? And as I tell the story this time, I'm going to invite you to say some of the important phrases like slurping the nectar and chewing the wood and munching the leaves.

We'll try and do actions for butterfly can you remember which mini beast this was, millipede and the slug was munching.

Remember slug we did this didn't we, in the song.

Oh, do you remember that phrase? He scuttled here, he scuttled there, he scuttled all around and then to his surprise, a friend he, brilliant.

Let's have a go at telling that story.

Remember, we're going to start with this which always reminds us of once upon a time.

Okay, let's try and do it.

It's story time.

It's story time.

Look, listen, learn.

Once upon a time beneath a big damp log, a small little beetle woke up.

He felt a rumble in his tummy.

I'm hungry I wonder who could help me.

And he scuffled from his log to see what he could see.

He scuttled here, he scuttled there, he scuttled all a round and then to his surprise, a friend he found butterfly, butterfly, beetle called I'm feeling hungry can you help at all? Well says the butterfly when I'm hungry I slurp nectar like this ♪ Slurp slurp slurp ♪ ♪ Slurpdy slurp slurpdy slurp slurpdy slurp ♪ ♪ Slurp slurp slurp ♪ ♪ Slurpdy slurp I slurp nectar like this ♪ Oh says beetle, could I try too? So beetle slurped some nectar.

Hmm, thank you beetle said, you're very kind.

And he scuttled off thinking I wonder what I'll find.

He scuttled here, he scuttled there, he scuttled all around.

And then to his surprise, a friend he found millipede, millipede, beetle called, I'm feeling hungry can you help at all? Well said the millipede when I'm hungry, I chew on wood like this ♪ Chew chew chew ♪ ♪ Chewy chew chew chewy chew chew chewy chew chew ♪ ♪ Chew chew chew ♪ ♪ Chewy chew chew ♪ I chew on wood like this.

Oh says beetle could I try too? So beetle chewed some wood.

Thank you, says beetle, you're very kind.

As he scuttled off, he thought I wonder what I'll find.

He scuttled here, he scuttled there, he scuttled all around.

And then to his surprise, a friend he found.

Slug, slug beetle called, I'm feeling hungry can you help at all? Well says the big slug, well says the big slug when I'm hungry I munch on leaves like this.

♪ Munch munch munch ♪ ♪ Munch munch munch ♪ ♪ Munch munch nibble nibble ♪ ♪ Munch munch munch ♪ ♪ Munch munch nibble nibble ♪ ♪ Munch munch munch ♪ ♪ I munch on leaves like this ♪ Oh says beetle could I try too? So he munched on a leaf.

Thank you, says beetle, you're very kind.

As he scuttled back home, he wondered who he'd find.

And when he got back to his log, there was his dad and the beetle said, daddy, I've tried three new foods and three new ways to eat.

I can slurp, I can chew, I've even learned to munch.

Great says dad, because it's time for lunch.

Did I make some mistakes? Yes I did.

But I'm like you, I'm practising being a storyteller.

Now it might be when I set you this challenge now and you tell your story to someone who's there a friend or a carer, or even your talk teddy, it might be that you want to look at your map.

It might also be that you act out some of the story and that some of the words stay in your head, but remember in your head, every word can still be heard.

So I'm going to pause the video now and now it's your turn to try this big challenge of telling this story and when you've had a good go, come back.

So how was that telling the story of beetle learns to eat, a story I've never told before this unit.

When you tell the story, how does it make you feel? Do you feel proud of yourself for being able to do it? Do you see pictures in your imagination like a little film when you tell the story? Does it really help if you act it out and do the actions? Maybe a little bit of all of those things.

Panda and I love learning to be storytellers and we really hope you're enjoying it too and we're very excited because in the next unit, we've got a brand new story to work with, we're working with the story, the little red hen.

So we really hope you'll join us for those sessions in the next unit, but for now, keep on telling stories, acting them out and listening out for exciting words and also the rhythm you can hear in words as well.
