Hello, I'm Adam and this is Panda.

And we are on unit two, lesson seven, using the story, "Bat Learns To Dance." Let's see, what's on the agenda today.

We're going to start with a warmup.

Where we're going to take a nursery rhyme that we know and change it, recycle it to make a new one.

And then we're going to have a go at learning to tell the new story we've created from "Bat Learns To Dance." And for this session, all you're going to need is something to draw with and a piece of paper, okay.

In this part of the unit we're looking at recycling ideas, taking stories and songs and changing them to make new ones.

So let's take "Incy Wincy Spider" and see what we can do with that.

So imagine this hand is the spout and this hand is the spider.

Here we go.

♪ Incy wincy spider ♪ ♪ Climbing up the spout ♪ ♪ Down came the rain ♪ ♪ And washed pour incy out ♪ ♪ Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain ♪ ♪ So incy wincy spider climbed the spout again ♪ We're thinking about mini beasts.

So how about, a slug? What if we went slippery, slimy, small, slug.

Let's try that, are you ready? ♪ Slippery slimy small slug climbing up the spout ♪ ♪ Down came the rain and washed the small slug out ♪ ♪ Out came the sun shine and dried up all the rain ♪ ♪ So slippery slimy small slug climbed the spout again ♪ That was fun, yes your rhyme done.

So our big challenge of the day is to start to tell a new story that's never been told before.

So perhaps a really good starting point is to remind ourselves of where this story came from.

Let's have a quick look at the story map for "Bat Learns To Dance." Well if you remember the story started with a bat here in her cave.

And she was feeling very cold.

So she wanted some help to warm up.

She went into the garden and she met a lady bird who taught her to flap, a rabbit who taught her to hop and a worm who taught her to wiggle.

And when she got home, she told her story to her mom and she did the little dance that went with it.

So, in our previous lesson we worked with that.

And with Panda, we turned that same story into another one, a new one.

So instead of having a bat in her cave, we have now a beetle who lives under a log.

This beetle though, isn't cold.

The beetle is hungry and wants to try some new foods.

Cause trying new foods is good.

So he wants some help and he goes out and he meets.

A butterfly who teaches him how to slurp nectar, then he meets a millipede, a millipede who teaches him how to I think to chew wood, and then finally meets a big slug who teaches him how to chew leaves.

And when he gets home, he can tell his dad all about it.

So that's the new story.

But now we need to think about the words that go with it.

I'm going to have a go at telling that story, and you're really welcome to try and join in.

But don't worry if you can't, it'd be really good just to listen.

Okay, here we go.

It's story time, it's story time.

Look, listen, learn.

Once upon a time, under a big damp log, a small little beetle woke up, a rumble in his tummy said, "I'm hungry through and through." "I'll look for friends to help me" beetle thought "That's what I'll do." He scuttled here, he scuttled there, he scuttled all around.

And then to his surprise, a friend he found.

"Butterfly, butterfly" beetle called "I'm feeling hungry, can you help at all?" "Well" said the butterfly "When I'm hungry, I slurp nectar like this." ♪ Slurp slurp slurp slurpery slurp slurp slurp slurp ♪ ♪ slurpery slurp slurp slurp slurp slurpery slurp.

♪ ♪ I slurp nectar like this.

♪ "Ooh " says beetle "Could I try too?" He tried some nectar and he went.

♪ Slurp slurp slurp slurpery slurp ♪ ♪ slurpery slurp slurpery slurp ♪ ♪ Slurp slurp slurp slurpery slurp ♪ ♪ He slurped nectar like this ♪ "Thank you," beetle called "You're very kind." And he scuttled off thinking, "What will I find?" He scuttled here, he scuttled there, he scuttled all around.

And then to his surprise, a friend he found.

" Millipede, millipede" beetle called "I'm feeling hungry, can you help at all?" "Well" says the millipede, "When I'm hungry, I chew on wood like this." He took some wood and he went.

♪ Chew chew chew chewy chew chew, ♪ ♪ Chewy chew chew, chewy chew chew ♪ ♪ Chew chew chewy chewy chewy chew ♪ ♪ I chew on wood like this.

♪ "Could I try" beetle said, and he got some wood and he started to chew And he went.

♪ Chew chew chew chewy chew chew ♪ ♪ Chewy chew chew, chewy chew chew ♪ ♪ Chew chew chewy chewy chewy chew chew ♪ ♪ He chewed on wood like this.

♪ "Thank you" beetle said "You're very kind." And he scuttled of thinking, "What else will I find?" He scuttled here, he scuttled there, he scuttled all around.

And then to his surprise, a friend he found.

"Slug, slug" beetle called "I'm feeling hungry, could you help at all?" "Well" says the slug "When I'm hungry, I munch on leaves like this" And he went.

♪ Munch munch munch nibble nibble nibble ♪ ♪ Nibble nibble nibble munch munch ♪ ♪ Munch munch nibble nibble munch munch munch ♪ ♪ He munched on leaves like this ♪ "Ooh," says beetle "Could I try munching leaves too? And he went, ♪ Munch munch nibble nibble munch munch munch ♪ ♪ Munch munch munch nibble nibble munch munch munch ♪ ♪ Munch Munch nibble nibble munch munch munch ♪ ♪ He munched on leaves like this.

♪ "Thank you" says beetle, "You're very kind." And he scuttled home thinking "Who will I find? When he got home, there was his dad and little beetle told his story.

"Dad" beetle called, "I have learnt to slurp and I have learned to chew and I've even learned to munch." "Good" said his dad, "Cause it's time for lunch." What were your favourite moments of that story? I wonder if you could think about them.

Was it that bit when beetle woke up and he had a rumbly tummy and he went out into the garden or was it when he was munching or was when he met the millipede.

Whatever was your favourite bit of the story.

Now it's your turn to draw that bit of the story.

While you are drawing it, have a think where they munching, where they slurping, where are they chewing? I'm going to pause the video.

And when you finished your drawings, come back and we'll talk about that story some more.

So how was that? Did you enjoy drawing your favourite moment of the story? I wonder what it was? Panda and I, our favourite moments of the story was when little beetle told his dad the story about learning, how to slurp nectar and munch leaves and chew wood.

We said before how important memorable moments in stories are.

And that story must have memorable moments cause we've drawn some.

And the other thing, all good stories must have is something that makes us think.

Did we learn anything in that story? Did beetle learn anything? Do you remember the bat learnt how to get warm? What did beetle learn? Did beetle learn that friends can help you, if you ask for help, maybe that's one thing.

Panda said, "She thinks beetle learned how to try new foods" and try new foods it's a good thing to learn Panda.

Very good.

Well, Panda and I are really looking forward to the next session.

Because we are going to step this story, put more actions to more of the words.

And we're also going to learn a mini bee song that we can dance to as well.

So keep on listening out for new words and trying new foods too.

And Panda and I, we really look forward to seeing you in the next session soon.

Until then, bye bye.
