Today, we're going to map and speak our discussion, and when we map our discussion, it's going to help us clearly see the advantages and disadvantages.

In today's lesson we'll start off with our nursery rhyme, then you're going to listen and respond to the discussion again, then we'll map the discussion, and then we'll speak our maps.

For this lesson you will need, an exercise book or a piece of paper, your super memory and, of course, your teddy talk partner or something else, if you use that instead.

You can pause the video now, to go and get any items that you don't already have and then press play when you come back.

We'll start off with our nursery rhyme today, The Hokey Cokey, and then we'll sing our version of it using the discussion features.

Now, we'll invite back, Little Blue Running Shoes and listen to the discussion.

Should Little Red Riding Hood go into the forest alone? Hi! I'm Little Blue Running Shoes, and if you remember me from the last lesson, you'll remember I love blue, I love running and I love my blue suede running shoes! They make me so happy.

I'm here to talk to you about whether sis should have gone in the woods alone? I heard Mum and sis arguing about it in the kitchen.

Mum said sis should go into the woods alone, for three reasons, first, Gran was sick and someone and someone had to do it, she was on her own.

Second, everyone was busy, except sis, I was busy running, Mum was busy doing housework.

And third, she was old enough to go on her own now and she needed some responsibility.

On the other hand, Sis said she shouldn't go for three reasons.

First, it was dangerous in the woods because of big, bad scary wolves.

Second, it was a really long way and she was tired.

And third, she didn't really know the way and she might get lost.

Who do you think was right? Maybe Mum, maybe Sis, who do you think? Me, I think it's good if Sis helps gran out when she's sick but not if it's too dangerous.

Hm, maybe next time, a wood cutter should go with her to make sure that she's safe.

Hope you enjoyed listening to the discussion with little blue running shoes, and thinking about the advantages of Little Red Riding Hood going into the woods alone and the disadvantages of Little Red Riding Hood going into the woods alone.

I wonder what you're agreeing with or what you're thinking, who you agree with.

Now we're going to map the discussion.

Now if you've worked with me before, you would've seen story maps, now, this is going to look a little bit different because it's a discussion map and it's not a story but we will be thinking about the advantages and the disadvantages.

Now, you may want to draw a map along with me or you can always pause the video at the end and copy up what we go through, it's completely up to you.

Okay, when I'm mapping a discussion, I like to put my main sections into bubbles and you'll understand as I draw along what I mean by that.

When little blue running shoes told the discussion, he had a introduction, where he introduced himself and said what he was going to talk about, he had three advantages, three reasons that she should go into the forest, three disadvantages, three reasons she shouldn't go into the forest, and then an ending, what we call a conclusion, where you make a decision based on your discussion.

And Little Blue Running Shoes conclusion was that she should go to Grandma's if she was safe with a woodcutter.

So, I'm going to have, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight bubbles, and you'll understand what that looks like as we go along.

So, in my introduction, I introduced myself, well he introduced himself, Little Blue Running Shoes and it was all about, whether or not, Little Red Riding Hood should go into the forest alone.

So, I'm going to draw Little Red Riding Hood, a forest and a tick or a cross, should she or shouldn't she.

And then I come to my first reason for, my first pro, my first advantage.

So, I'm going to put plus one, plus as an advantage, and the first reason she should go Mum said was because Grandma was sick and all on her own and someone had to do it.

So, I'm going to draw Grandma sick.

Can you tell your Teddy Talk Partner what the second advantage was, the second reason she should.

Great work if you remembered! The second reason Mum said she should, is because everyone was busy, she was busy doing housework and cooking and Little Blue Running Shoes was busy running.

So, I'm going to draw a brush and a pan and then for Little Blue Running Shoes I'm going to draw a leg with a trainer on.

Can you pause the video now and have a go at writing the third advantage? Great work if you gave that a go! The third advantage was of course, the third reason she should go was of course because she was old enough now and Mum wanted her to have some responsibility, and I've drawn an arrow to show she's old enough.

And then we go into our disadvantages, our reason she shouldn't go and this was Little Red Riding Hood, and her first disadvantage was that it was dangerous because of the big, bad, scary wolves, so she said she shouldn't of gone because of that.

So, I'm just going to draw a wolf in my bubble.

I've done a minus one because that minus is a disadvantage.

And the second disadvantage, what was the second disadvantage? Can you tell your screen? Great work and great remembering if you gave that a go, she was tired and it was a long way.

You might want to pause the video now and have a go at drawing the third disadvantage on your own.

Great work if you gave the third disadvantage a go on your own and don't worry if you wanted to draw along with me.

The third disadvantage, the third reason she shouldn't go was because she could've got lost and she didn't know the way, so, I've drawn a confused face and lots of arrows in lots of different directions.

And then of course I end with my conclusion.

And my conclusion was, that she should go to Grandma's to see her because she's sick but she should take a woodcutter with her so that she is safe.

So in the conclusion box I'm going to draw a woodcutter's axe and Little Red Riding Hood going to Grandma's.

If you want to, you can pause the video now or rewind it at any point and copy up the story map.

Now we will speak the discussion using our discussion map.

Cedric's going to help me with this bit and we're going to talk through the pictures on our discussion map to make sure we understand what each of them mean.

Okay, so, the first one there Cedric that I, what did I mean I.

Oh that's right, introduction, the beginning.

And I can see that there's Little Red Riding Hood, wood and that's where Little Blue Running Shoes says what he's going to talk about in the discussion.

The first plus one, plus one is.

Not disadvantages, it's advantage, and the first advantage, the first reason Mum said she should go, I can see Grandma there with a thermometer, that must mean Grandmas sick, well done! The first reason is Grandma's sick and she had to go.

The second reason, can you remember what the second reason is Cedric? Everybody was busy, that's right Little Running Shoes was running and Mum was busy doing housework.

And third reason Cedric says is it because she was tall enough? I don't think it was tall enough because I don't think that would really matter.

What could that arrow mean? Oh he remembers now, it meant she was old enough, great work Cedric! And then we come to our reasons she shouldn't go, and the first reason, I can remember because of the big, bad, scary wolf.

Can you pause the video now and have a go at reading the rest of the map with your talk partner? Great work if you managed to give that a go, and know sometimes it's tricky to remember what some of your images mean and remember everything in the story, just like me and Cedric did, but you use the images and your talking to remind yourselves.

I'll talk through the rest, just in case there were bits you forgot.

So the second the reason was, she was too tired and it was a long way.

The third reason was that she could get lost and she didn't know the way.

And then the conclusion was of course, that the woodcutter should go with her so it wasn't too dangerous.

You might pause the video now and have a go at practising talking through your map, making sure that you understand what the images mean.

Before we go, we'd like to do some hot seating, and hot seating means, you go into a role as a character from the story and one person asked questions and the other person who is enrolled as the character answer as if they were them.

So, Cedric, I'd like you to go into the roll of Mum, is that okay? And I'm going to be the interviewer and this is my microphone.

So, Missus Red Riding Hood, can you tell me why you felt you could send Little Red Riding Hood into the forest alone? Cedric said, she's a mature girl now and she has to learn some responsibility, plus Grandma was very sick, who was going to look after her? Could you have not gone into the forest and gone to Grandma's house since you're the adult? Cedric says, I was extremely busy and didn't have a minute, it's about time Little Red Riding Hood pulled her weight.

And what about the fact that she was really tired, did you not feel a bit sorry for her? No I do not, it's not my fault she had a late night, I give her bedtime and it's up to her if she follows her rules or not! Great work Cedric, I loved you in role as Mum.

You can have a go at that with your Teddy Talk Partner now if you'd like and think about the different characters.

You could be Little Red Riding Hood or you could be Little Blue Running Shoes and interview him about what he heard.

We'll see you in the next lesson.
