- Hello, I'm Adam, and this is Panda.

We are on unit six, lesson two using the story The King and the Moon.

Let's see what's on the agenda today.

So for our warm up today, we're going to start with two nursery rhymes that have got kings in them.

And then after that, I'm going to tell you the story of The King and the Moon as I draw a story map.

And there'll be one of the challenges in the lesson today for you then to draw a story map of this story too.

And then we'll finish off with learning a song all about the word because.

For this session, you will need a piece of paper later on and a pencil to draw with.

Right, let's start with some nursery rhymes.

So for our warmup today Panda and I have decided we want to stand up so we can move around a bit.

And two nursery rhymes that we know really well and we've shared with you before, are The Grand Old Duke of York and Humpty Dumpty and they both have references to kings in them.

So, The Grand Old Duke of York, we could do some marching.

So we could start with that.

Okay.

♪ The Grand Old Duke of York ♪ ♪ He had 10,000 men ♪ ♪ He matched them up to the top of the hill ♪ ♪ And he much them down again ♪ ♪ And when they were up, they were up ♪ ♪ And when they were down, they were down ♪ ♪ And when they were only halfway up ♪ ♪ They were neither up nor down ♪ ♪ Whoa, the Grand Old Duke of York ♪ ♪ He had 10,000 men ♪ ♪ He marched them up to the top of the hill ♪ ♪ And he marched them down again ♪ ♪ And when they were up, they were up ♪ ♪ And when they were down they were down ♪ ♪ But when they were only halfway up ♪ ♪ They were neither up nor down ♪ I feel much warmer now.

Now Panda, Humpty Dumpty.

Should we stay standing for this one as well? We know a version of Humpty Dumpty, where he cuddles a bear, don't we? Let's do Humpty Dumpty, the version we all know first.

You're right there Panda.

Here we go.

Panda sings in her head.

Perhaps some of you do that too.

Here we go.

♪ Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty had a great fall ♪ ♪ All the king's horses and all the king's men ♪ ♪ Couldn't put Humpty together again ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty sat on a chair ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty brushing his hair ♪ ♪ All the king's horses ♪ ♪ And all the king's men said, "Ah Humpty Dumpty ♪ ♪ He looks smarter again" ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty sat on a chair ♪ ♪ Humpty Dumpty cuddled his bear ♪ ♪ All the king's horses ♪ ♪ And all the king's men said," ah, Humpty Dumpty ♪ ♪ He looks sweet again" ♪ That was fun.

And the nursery rhymes are done.

But now it's time for me to tell the story of The King and the Moon.

While I draw a story map, would you like to watch? Alright then, here we go.

Hi there, Panda and I are over here and I've got my drawing paper here and it's quite small.

Hopefully yours is bigger than mine.

I find it tricky drawing small.

Here we go.

If you haven't heard the story before, it goes something like this.

See if you can guess, which is that I'm drawing first.

It's not a person.

It's an important place.

These are turrets, turrets with windows and a mighty impressive doorway and windows upstairs as well.

This is a palace.

And in this wonderful palace, there lives a very important person going to give him a square face cause he's so regal and a very important hat.

And this person is the king.

Now the king, no forgive my drawing.

But the important thing with a story map is that as long as I understand it, then it makes sense to me.

That's fine.

So here's the king and he's really rich.

He's got bucket loads of gold.

He's got the finest, most fashionable clothing, you could possibly imagine.

He's got more houses and horses than you can shake a stick at.

But he's not happy cause it's not enough, Cause every night, he looks out through the trees and he sees the thing he wants which is the moon, the beautiful, beautiful, shiny moon.

And he sings to it, he goes, ♪ Oh moon I love you ♪ ♪ Oh moon I want you ♪ ♪ Oh moon swoon for you ♪ It's really embarrassing.

But in that tree, there lives a creature.

You can probably imagine who it is in the story.

A creature that lives in the tree who likes swinging about, so give them long arms. Also going to give them a banana Yeah, of course it's a monkey, long thin legs.

Now the monkey goes, "please stop singing." But the King, he never stops singing.

And so the monkey throws the banana and the banana land splat on the head of a tiny creature.

Did you guess it, if you haven't heard the story a little mouse, and the little mouse scampers He scampers away.

He runs and he runs, so fast.

He runs right up the tail of an elephant.

And then the elephant charges through the town cause the elephant is so startled and the people frown and run around and the king hears all the commotion and he's about to come downstairs to find out what's going on when the elephant runs past a girl and the girl she throws up her arms "help!" She was scared by the elephant.

And she had just happened to be carrying some eggs.

So her eggs go all up into the air and they go splat into the king's face.

I'll draw his face a little bigger here I won't draw all of him.

but you can imagine how unhappy the king is.

And he goes, "Who has thrown eggs in my face?" And an old woman says,"it was the girl." And the girl says, "it wasn't my fault, your majesty." "Why?", says the king.

"because I was scared" We have to follow them up backwards now.

"I was scared by the elephant." So the king speaks to the elephant and he says, "why did you scare the little girl and make her throw eggs in my face?" And the elephant goes, "it wasn't my fault." The king asks, "why?" So we follow the map backwards.

"Because I was scared by a mouse," said the elephant.

So the King asks to see the mouse and he says, "mouse, why did you scare the elephant? Because it made the elephant scare the girl and then the girl threw eggs in my face." And the mouse goes, "it wasn't my fault." "Why?" says the king.

And the mouse says, "I was scared, because a monkey threw a banana that landed on my head." So the king goes to see the monkey.

And he says, "why did you throw a banana that scared the mouse, that scared the elephant that frightened the girl, and that's why I've got egg in my face." And the monkey says, "there was this horrible singing coming from the palace.

♪ Oh moon, I love you ♪ ♪ Oh moon, I want you ♪ And I went to throw the banana to get your attention but I accidentally hit the mouse.

So your majesty, I think it's your fault." And then the king thinks," well, I have got egg on my face." But he didn't want to blame himself.

So he looked up to the moon and started to think, ♪ Oh, moon, I love you ♪ And that night he climbed the highest mountain.

He stood on boxes and he tried to reach the moon but he kept on falling down.

And that king is still trying to get the moon.

and he can't.

And that was the end of the very funny, silly story.

So the important things I got done on my map with a king who lived in a palace and he sings to the moon and the monkey throws the banana that scares the mouse.

The mouse runs and scares the elephant.

The elephant runs and scares the girl and the girl throws the eggs in the King's face.

Big challenge now, I'm going to pause the video and it's your turn to try and draw some pictures in a story map that help you remember the story.

So I'm going to pause the video now and when you're done, come back and we'll talk about this story a little bit more.

Good luck, time for work.

So how did you get on? Was it tricky? Remembering all the different things that happened.

Remember everyone here at the Oak Academy will love to see your story maps.

So please ask your carers and your teachers and they will know how to share your work with us.

One of the things we noticed when I told the story the first time was how many times I had to use the word, because.

Because is a really useful word.

Would you like to learn the Why Because song? Here we go.

So the Why Because song goes like this.

♪ We know a really useful word ♪ Would you like to sing that? ♪ We know a really useful word ♪ ♪ It's super clever have you heard ♪ Do try that? ♪ It's super clever have you heard? ♪ ♪ The word is because, because, because is the word.

♪ ♪ The word is because, because, because is the word.

♪ well, that's the chorus.

So if you can join in with that, either out loud or singing in your head, that's fine.

And Panda and I, we're pretty sure we'll sing the song a few times during this unit.

So to sing it with the backing track I'm going to put my headphones on.

And this is The Why Because song We know a really useful word you ready? ♪ We know a really useful word ♪ ♪ It's super clever have you heard ♪ ♪ The word is because, because, because is the word ♪ and he repeats.

♪ We know a really useful word ♪ ♪ It's super clever have you heard ♪ ♪ The word is because, because, because is the word ♪ ♪ Because is great because it starts to answer any why ♪ ♪ Because connects us to the answer that you can't deny ♪ ♪ Because, because it starts to answer why ♪ ♪ It's the very best suggestion ♪ ♪ That starts to answer the question ♪ hence the chorus ♪ We know a really useful word ♪ ♪ It's super clever have you heard ♪ ♪ The word is because, because, because is the word ♪ ♪ Because is the word ♪ ♪ Because is the word ♪ Because is the word Well that's the Why Because song.

So we hope you enjoyed that and we hope you enjoyed learning with us here today.

So share your story maps and Panda and I look forward to meeting you in the next session when we'll be working hard with this story to tell it in our own way until then bye-bye.
