Hello everybody.

My name's Miss Hughes.

And I'm feeling so excited today because I get to learn with all of you.

How are you feeling? Great.

Don't worry if you don't know what you're feeling today, because in this lesson, we are going to be learning all about feelings.

Can you do that with me, feelings? And we will name and describe different feelings that we have.

It's the first lesson of three on feelings.

Today's is with Miss Hughes, lesson two is with Miss Sidenius, give her a wave.

And lesson three is with Mrs. Garrard.

In this lesson, we will listen to a story, talk about feelings, and then make a feelings chart.

You're going to need your listening ears, so let's turn them on, you're going to need some paper and a pencil, and you're going to need a mirror so you can see your facial expressions.

Pause the video here, get what you need, and I'm waiting for when you're ready.

Let's begin with a story.

And this story is about a little boy called Teim.

Can you give Teim a big wave? And Teim's feeling a little bit nervous.

So I hope that you all make him feel really welcome as we tell this story.

It was Teim's first day.

Teim was starting in a brand new school.

Teim had been feeling so excited, but on the morning he woke up really early feeling a little bit nervous.

He got up, put on his new uniform, and ate his breakfast.

He had a really funny feeling in his tummy, a bit like butterflies.

Teim walked to school with mom.

When he got to the gate, he was surprised to see his friend, Fren waiting at the gate next to him.

Hi, Teim, she said.

We're in the same school.

We won't be in the same class, but I'll see you at break times.

Teim felt a little bit happier knowing that Fren would be close by.

But as the bell went to start school, mom left.

Teim waved her goodbye, feeling a little bit sad that she had gone.

He went into school, put his coat on his pack.

He sat up his new carpet spot, and looked around the classroom.

He saw lots of things that he would get to play with.

He was really happy to see some blocks to build with.

And Teim spent all morning building the most beautiful castle you have ever seen.

But then, nee-no, nee-no! A child ran through the middle of the blocks, knocking down the castle into a million bricks.

Teim felt so angry that he had worked so hard and somebody had ruined his castle.

He started to cry.

But then, don't worry Teim.

Along came Glass.

She helped Teim to put his castle back together, and it was back to this time.

Teim had made a new friend and that made him feel really happy.

The rest of the day went really well.

And when mom picked Teim up, he was so excited, talking about all of the wonderful things he'd done that day.

Teim had had a great first day of school.

The end.

Your turn.

Wow, Teim had so many different feelings on his first day at school.

Can you remember any of them? Teim felt nervous to be starting somewhere new.

He felt surprised to see a friend.

A bit sad when mom left.

Angry, when someone ruined his tower.

Happy to make a new friend.

And excited to tell mom about his first day.

Think back to when you had your first day at school or nursery, or even went somewhere new.

How did you feel? Tell your screen.

Very excited, but a little bit nervous too.

That's okay.

Now we're going to think about some of the feelings we have.

Feelings are different emotions that we go through.

Show me feelings.

And we have lots of different feelings.

And when we have feelings, we might change our face.

This is called our facial expression.

Now they don't all look exactly the same.

Yours will look very different to mine, but there are certain things that happen when we feel different things.

Take a look at this picture.

How do you think I feel here? Lots of you said happy.

I agree.

I'm smiling and my eyes are wide open, which tells me that I'm feeling happy.

Get your mirror and see if you can pull a happy face.

Are you smiling like me? Maybe your face looks a little bit different, but you've probably got a smile on it.

I love feeling happy.

I feel happy when the sun is shining, so I can go for picnics with my friends outside.

What makes you feel happy? Tell your screen.

I feel happy when.

Great, I hope you feel happy lots of the time.

But sometimes we don't feel happy.

Have a look at this picture.

How do you think I feel here? Tell your screen.

I'm feeling sad in this picture.

My mouth has curled down.

My eyes are closing a little bit, and my head is down.

I'm feeling really sad.

Get your mirror and see if you can pull a sad face.

Notice what's happened to your mouth, what's happened to your eyes.

Sometimes we feel sad.

I feel sad when I go to the shop and they've run out of my favourite ice cream that I was looking forward to eating.

What makes you feel sad? Think and tell your screen.

I feel sad when.

I hope you don't feel sad too often.

Ooh, take a look at this picture.

How am I feeling here? Tell your screen.

I'm feeling quite scared in this picture.

My mouth is open, my hands are on my face in shock, and my eyes are wide open.

I feel scared.

Some of you might have said surprised because the surprised face can look similar to a scared face.

Take your mirror and see if you can pull a really scared face.

Oh, you've done some really good scared faces.

Sometimes we feel scared.

Or we might say we feel frightened, which is another word for scared.

I feel frightened when the lights don't work in the house because I don't like the dark very much.

When do you feel scared or frightened? Tell your screen.

I feel frightened when.

Feeling scared or frightened is not a very nice feeling.

Oh, this is a much happier feeling.

Take a look at the picture.

How do you think I feel here? Tell your screen.

I feel really excited in this picture.

I've got my thumbs up, I'm pulling a really big smile, I look so happy.

I wonder if you can get your mirror and pull an excited face.

What's happening to your mouth? Are you pulling a big smile like me? Maybe you're jumping up and down if you're using your body as well.

I feel excited when I'm going to the cinema because it means I'm going to see a new film.

When do you feel excited? Tell your screen.

I feel excited when.

Great.

I hope there's lots of things that you feel excited for.

Ooh, what's about this picture? How do I feel here? I'm feeling really angry in this picture.

My eyebrows have gone really close together, I'm scrunching my face up.

I feel angry.

Pull an angry face in your mirror.

Oh, you're looking very angry.

Your eyebrows are really close together.

I feel I angry when I've spent a really long time drawing a picture and right at the end, I make a mistake and ruin it.

When do you feel angry? Tell your screen.

I feel angry when.

Sometimes we feel angry.

Let's look at the last picture.

How do you think I feel here? I feel really tired here.

I'm holding my head, my eyes are closing.

I feel tired.

Pull a tired face in your mirror.

Maybe there's something else you do when you're tired.

Maybe you yawn.

Maybe you close your eyes.

I feel tired when the birds wake me up early.

When do you feel tired? When you go to bed late, when you wake up early, maybe when you're on holidays and you've had a late night.

Feeling tired is not very nice.

It makes us feel a little bit sad and grumpy.

So, we have lots of different feelings.

And remember our faces don't all look the same when we have those feelings, but there's some things that they might do.

Now we've go to little task.

I want you to point to a photo where I'm feeling happy.

I can see lots of you pointed at this photo, or maybe even this one where I feel extra happy and excited.

Point to a photo where I'm feeling sad.

Lots of you pointed to this photo.

You noticed my mouth is turned down.

Point to a photo where I'm feeling scared.

I feel quite scared in this photo.

Great job, everyone.

We've leaned so much about feelings.

And there were lots to remember.

So now we're going to make a feelings chart.

This will help us to choose something nice to do if we're not feeling very good.

So first, you're going to draw six faces with different feelings on them.

Here's my happy face, sad face, angry face, excited face, scared face and tired face.

You can use those feelings or you can choose different ones.

Next, you're going to think of three things that you like to do to cheer you up or help you feel calm.

I like to draw, listen to music, and talk to my friends if I am not feeling very good.

But you might have different ideas.

Then, we're going to think about how we feel today.

Today, I feel excited because we've done lots of learning, but I'm also feeling quite angry because my story map didn't go right this morning, even though I tried really hard.

How are you feeling today and why? Tell your screen.

Today I feel, because.

Have you got your feeling in your head? Great.

So I felt angry.

So I've got a star and I've put it on the angry face.

And when I feel angry, it makes me feel better if I listen to music, and that's what I want to do right now.

So I've put a star on the music picture.

So I'm going to listen to music to cheer myself up.

Now later, I might feel something different.

So I would move my star to show how I'm feeling.

You can use this chart to help you when you're not feeling good.

To make your feelings chart, number one, draw the pictures of the feelings.

I've used little faces.

Number two, choose your activities that make you feel better.

And number three, you can say how you're feeling, maybe to your teddy, and then put a dot or a star onto that picture.

If you'd like to, please ask your parents or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging OakNational and hashtag LearnwithOak.

It's been so great to learn with you today.

I feel like I've thought a lot more about my feelings and I hope you have too.

Have a wonderful day and I hope to see you soon.

Bye.
