Hello everyone, it's Miss Doherty.

Today we're going to recycle a story by changing characters.

You will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

You can pause the video now while you go and get those items. We're going to start today's lesson by singing a nursery rhyme.

Then we'll map the story and finally we'll tell the recycled story.

♪ It's raining it's pouring ♪ ♪ The old man is snoring ♪ ♪ He went to bed and bumped his head ♪ ♪ And couldn't get up in the morning ♪ Can you join in? ♪ It's raining it's pouring ♪ ♪ The old man is snoring ♪ ♪ He went to bed and bumped his head ♪ ♪ And couldn't get up in the morning ♪ Before we recycle the story, let's remind ourselves of the story of the three little pigs.

Once there were three little pigs who lived at home with their mom.

One day their mom said, "off you go and build your own houses, "but make sure they're strong" The first little pig built their house of straw.

One day a wolf came and said, "little pig, little pig, " let me come in" "not by the hair of my chinny chin chin" "then I'll huff and I'll puff, "and I'll blow your house down".

So the wolf huffed and he puffed and he blew the house down and he ate up the little pig.

The second little pig has built their house out of wood.

One day a wolf came and said "little pig, little pig, "let me come in" "Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin" "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down" and the wolf huffed and he puffed and he blew the house down and he ate up the little pig.

The third little pig, had built their house out of bricks.

One day a wolf came and said, "little pig, little pig, "let me come in" "Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin" "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down" So he huffed and he puffed.

But he couldn't blow the house down.

So the wolf went home and the little pig was glad.

Now, we are going to recycle the story.

That means we're going to take some parts of the story and make it into a whole new story and we're going to start by recycling it and changing some characters.

So, one of our main characters is the wolf and I've got Wilf the wolf, my wolf puppet with me.

Now Wilf, I have some terrible news.

You're not going to get to eat the three little pigs.

I know, I know, but we've heard that story, we've learnt that story, we've told that story.

We've written that story and we just want something different, don't we? I know Wilf.

So shall we have as our main character, an otter like Ollie, or a shark like Sean? Which one would you choose? Have a think.

An otter like Ollie or a shark like Sean? I'm going to choose a shark.

Ollie perhaps we'll do some writing with you another lesson.

So my character is going to be a shark.

And if my main character is a shark, do sharks eat pigs? Do you eat pigs Sean? Sean says he would eat pigs if he could get near them, but they don't tend to swim in the sea.

That's right the setting has changed hasn't it? Our story will have to be in the sea, if our main character is a shark or one of our main characters, our villain, our baddy is a shark.

I do like eating Sean.

He loves eating fish.

Fish.

You love eating fish.

Okay so we can have the three little fish who live at home with their mommy.

Fantastic.

Now we are going to do a story map, of our new recycled story, called The Three Little Fish and we're going to have to start a whole new story map.

So get your paper and get your pencil ready.

So once there were three little fish who lived in a house with their mommy.

One day their mommy said, "off you go and build your own house, "and make sure it's strong" The fist little fish built their house, of straw.

One day a shark came and said, "little fish, little fish, let me come in" "not by the scales of my finny fin fin" "Then I'll munch and I'll crunch "and I'll eat your house up" So the shark munched and he crunched and he ate the house up and he ate up the little fish.

The second little fish, had built their house out of wood.

One day along came a shark and the shark said "little fish, "little fish, let me come in" "not by the scales of my finny fin fin" "Then I'll munch and I'll crunch "and I'll eat your house up" So the shark munched and he crunched, and he ate the house up and he ate up the little fish.

The third little fish had built their house out of bricks.

The third little fish had built their house out of bricks.

One day a shark came and said, "little fish, little fish, let me come in" "not by the scales of my finny fin fin" "Then I'll munch and I'll crunch "and I'll eat your house up" So the shark munched and he crunched, and he munched and he crunched, ow.

But he couldn't eat the house up, so the shark went home and the little fish, was glad.

Now that little fish had listened to it's mommy hadn't it? Taken the mommy's advice of building a strong house just like the little pig.

So the wolf couldn't eat the third little pig because they had a strong house and the shark couldn't eat the third little fish, because they had a strong house.

Now it's your turn to map the story.

Will you use Sean the shark instead of the wolf? Or will you use Ollie the otter? Otters live in rivers and streams in England and they eat eels and frogs.

Pause the video now, while you map the story.

Now it's time to tell the story.

I'm going to tell the whole recycled story using my story map.

You can follow along as I tell it.

Once there were three little fish, who lived at home with their mom.

One day their mom said, "off you go and build your own houses" So off the fish went.

The fist little fish built their house, of straw.

One day along came a shark and the shark said "little fish, little fish, let me come in" "not by the scales of my finny fin fin" "Then I'll munch and I'll crunch "and I'll eat your house up" So the shark munched and he crunched and he ate the house up and he ate up the little fish.

The second little fish, had built their house of wood.

One day along came a shark and the shark said "little fish, little fish, let me come in" "not by the scales of my finny fin fin" "Then I'll munch and I'll crunch "and I'll eat your house up" So the shark munched and he crunched and he ate the fish up along with his house.

The third little fish had built their house out of bricks.

One day along came a shark and the shark said "little fish, little fish, let me come in" "not by the scales of my finny fin fin" "Then I'll munch and I'll crunch "and I'll eat your house up" Ow.

But the shark couldn't eat the house.

So the shark went home and the fish was glad.

Now it's your turn to tell your recycled story.

You might use my story map on the screen if you've also written your story about a shark and the three little fish.

Or if you've chosen an otter and some eels or some frogs, or another animal, you will be using your own story map, which you should have in front of you.

Pause the video now while you tell the story and resume once you're finished.

Thank you so much for joining us, today and recycling a story.

Say bye bye Ollie and Sean.

See you next time, bye bye.
