Hello, everyone! In this lesson, you will need an exercise book or some paper, a pencil, and your brain.

You can pause the video now to go and get these things.

Today, we're going to start by singing a nursery rhyme.

Then, we will have a writing task and to finish, we will tell our recycled story.

Let's sing a nursery rhyme.

This is one you'll have sung with me previously if you were in some of my earlier lessons.

♪ I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ ♪ Yes, I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ ♪ No, you cannot catch me ♪ ♪ I'm as fast as can be ♪ ♪ I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ ♪ I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ ♪ I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ ♪ No, you cannot catch me ♪ ♪ I'm as fast as can be ♪ ♪ I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ Should we try that together? ♪ I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ ♪ I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ ♪ No, you cannot catch me ♪ ♪ I'm as fast as can be ♪ ♪ I'm running just as fast as I can ♪ Now you may have noticed that I have changed some of the words to that song.

In today's lesson, we're going to be recycling our story.

That means we're going to be changing some of our story.

Shall we change "The Gingerbread Man", "The Little Old Lady," or "The Cow?" Have a think now about which one you would like to change.

I'm going to change "The Gingerbread Man".

Shall I change "The Gingerbread Man" to become a pie person, a bagel boy, or a cheese chum? Which one would you choose? I'm going to change my pie person.

Oh dear.

I meant, I'm going to change "The Gingerbread Man" into a pie person.

Which one would you choose? I'm going to change "The Gingerbread Man" into a pie person.

If you were in some of our earlier lessons, you will have your own story map.

If not, you can use mine, which is in the downloadable resources.

The first thing I'm going to go and do now is I'm going to look at my story map and find the times that "The Gingerbread Man" is on the story map.

Now, I'm going think about whether they need to change to a picture of a pie person.

If I'm changing my gingerbread man into a pie person, what else will have to change? Hmm.

Will the animals still want to eat a pie person? I think so.

Will my pie person be able to run as fast as the gingerbread man? Will my pie person be able to run? Pies don't have legs.

Hmm.

How can I solve that problem? I know.

We could think of another way for the pie person to move.

Maybe the pie person could fly or swim or jump.

Which one would you choose? I think my pie person is going to jump.

Pause the video now and have a look at your story map.

I'm going to have a look at mine and then we'll make some changes together.

As you can see here, I have started to change my story map.

I chose between three new characters to replace the gingerbread man.

They were a pie person, a cheese chum, and a bagel boy.

And we also had to think about how my pie person was going to move.

Was I going to add legs to my pie person so they could run, run as fast as they can like the gingerbread man, or was I going to choose to get them moving in a different way? We chose that my pie person would jump.

Let's tell the story so far.

Once upon a time, there was a little old lady and a little old man who lived together in a house.

One day, the little old lady said, "I'm going to make a pie person." She mixed and she filled and she puts her pie in the oven.

She heard a knocking coming from inside the oven.

The pie person jumped out and started to sing.

"Jump, jump as fast as you can.

You can't stop me.

I'm the pie person." The pie person jumped and jumped until they came to a cat.

The cat said, "Stop, I want to eat you." But the pie person said, "Jump, jump as fast as you can.

You can't stop me.

I'm the pie person." They jumped and they jumped until they came to a dog.

The dog said, "Stop, I want to eat you.

Jump, jump as fast as you can.

You can't stop me.

I'm the pie person.

The old lady can't stop me.

The old man can't stop me.

The cat can't stop me and you can't stop me." The pie person continued to jump until he came to a cow.

Ooh! The cow said, "Stop, I want to eat you." The pie person said, "Jump, jump as fast as you can.

You can't catch me.

I'm the pie person.

The old lady can't catch me.

The old man can't catch me.

The cat can't catch me.

The dog can't catch me.

And you can't catch me." The pie person continued to jump until they came to a fox and a river.

"Hop onto my tail," said the fox.

"I will carry you over the river." And so the pie person hopped onto the fox's tail.

"Jump on my back," said the fox.

"I'm sinking into the water." And so the pie person jumped onto the fox's back.

"Jump onto my head," said the fox.

"I am sinking into the water." I'm going to change.

I've still got a gingerbread man here.

So, I'm going to cross it out.

And don't worry if it looks a little bit messy on your story map.

I've added the pie person.

So the pie person jumped onto the fox's head, "Jump onto my nose," said the fox.

Let's draw the pie person on the fox's nose.

"I'm sinking into the water." The fox shook his head, opened his mouth and snap.

That was the end of the, hmm, not the gingerbread man anymore, is it? That was the end of the pie person.

Your story map probably looks a lot like mine.

There's some crossing out and it's a bit messy.

You might have tried some bits, decide you weren't happy and tried to again.

That's okay.

It all helps us to learn.

What we're going to do now is create a new story map with a recycled character.

My recycled character is the pie person, but you might choose to recycle a different character.

Now that we've changed our character on our story map, we're going to create a new story map with our recycled character.

So, I'm going to draw my old lady and my old man who lived together that in their house.

And one day the old lady said, "I'm going to bake a pie." She hears the knock from inside the oven and out jumps, 'cause the pie person doesn't have legs like the gingerbread man, the pie person.

And the first animal he comes to is the cat.

Carries him running.

And he comes to the, you can remember, the dog.

Fantastic.

He carries on hopping until he comes to the, ooh, cow.

And then the pie person comes to the river and the fox.

The fox says, "Hop on my tail and I will carry you over the river." So the pie person, not the gingerbread man, the pie person hops onto the fox's tail.

"Hop onto my back," said the fox.

"I am sinking into the water." So, the pie person hops onto the fox's back.

"Hop onto my head," says the fox.

"I am sinking into the water." So, the pie person jumps onto the fox's head.

"Jump onto my nose," says the fox.

"I am sinking into the water." Oh! This fox has a bigger nose.

It's not my best nose, but that's okay.

It will still help me remember.

So, the pie person jumps onto the fox's nose.

The fox shakes his nose, opens his mouth and gobbles up the pie person.

And that was the end of the pie person.

In fact, I don't think he would have had a smiley face then, would they? They would have had a shocked face.

The pie person would have had a shocked face.

So, I have changed the story map.

So now, there is no gingerbread man anymore.

There is just the pie person.

There is just the pie person.

Now, you're going to use your new story map to tell the story.

Can you tell it to someone at home? Thank you for joining the lesson today.

Shall we sing our nursery rhyme just one more time? Okay.
