Hi, everyone.

Welcome to your sixth lesson in this unit with me, Miss Britton and Cedric? Cedric! There you are! In today's lesson, we're going to be recycling our story of "Little Red Riding Hood" with some new ideas, focusing on that middle that builds the drama, the excitement, the uncertainty of what's going to happen.

So, we're going to change our story but what we're still going to focus on that.

In today's lesson, we'll start off with a nursery rhyme, then we're going to recap our story using our story map and come up with some new ideas.

Then, we're going to talk our new ideas once we've put them onto our map.

For this lesson, you will need your story map from the beginning of the unit, your super memory and imagination, and your teddy talk partner, or anything else if you use it.

Now, it's time for our nursery rhyme.

So, so far in this unit, we've been changing the words from "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" to ♪ Little Red Riding Hood ♪ ♪ Feeling frightened in a wood ♪ Yes? But I thought we should maybe do the next bit of the story for the rest of the unit.

What do you think, Cedric? He thinks that a great idea, he thinks we need to mention the wolf more, and I agree.

Now from one of our lessons, I love growling, snarling, scary wolf.

So, we're going to say ♪ Growling, snarling, scary wolf ♪ Your turn.

I'm going to talk a little bit of it, and then I want you to pause the video and talk the rest with your teddy talk partner, to make sure you understand and remember the events in the story, and where the middle bits and the drama happens.

Okay, so this is the bit where Little Red Riding Hood gets sent by her mother to her grandma's house.

This is the bit where she gets to the forest and she's scared and she doesn't want to go.

I wonder if she'll be okay.

This is the bit where she gets to two pathways, a straight and a winding.

I hope she'll be okay because she chooses to go down the wrong path.

Her mother told her to stick to the straight path.

And then she comes to the big, bad wolf.

How is she feeling there, children? How was she feeling when she met the big, bad wolf? Yes, terrified or scared.

Pause the video now and recap the rest of the story, using the story map with your teddy talk partner, and don't forget to mention how she's feeling and what we wonder that will happen.

Now Cedric, when we recycle a story that means keeping the basic plot the same, but just changing little bits of it.

So, you might change the setting, you might change the characters, you might change the ending.

Hmm, Little Red Riding Hood and the Big, Bad Wolf.

I think we need to change the characters and the setting.

Well, we need to change the setting if we change the characters usually, but we'll have to see what we come up with.

What we're not going to change, the middle that builds drama.

We still want our audience to feel excited, nervous, and want to read on.

Does that sound good, Cedric? We still want that middle that keeps our audience guessing.

It keeps them wondering what is happening next, but we will have a think about what we could change our characters to.

We still want a foolish character, like Little Red Riding Hood, who thinks they're safe and not in danger, and we still want a big, bad character.

Hmm.

I wonder.

I've got one.

The big, bad alien! Who would be the little, red? No, I don't want little, red alien.

Little Red Astronaut.

Little Red Astronaut and the Big, Bad Alien.

That could work.

Have you got any ideas, Cedric? Cedric says Little Red Teddy and the Big, Bad Cookie Monster.

That's funny, Cedric.

I wonder what the ending would be to that one.

Hmm.

I want to make the big, bad character really scary though.

The cookie monster, to me, sounds like they could be quite fun.

What about a big, bad T-Rex? Little Red Dinosaur and the Big, Bad T-Rex.

Do you like that one, Cedric? Oh yeah.

Hmm.

Little Red Snail and the Big, Bad Slug.

That is a funny one, Cedric.

I wouldn't know what a slug, I'm not sure a slug has big, sharp teeth.

Well, that is a funny one.

Hmm.

What about a big, bad shark.

Big, bad shark and the little, red fish.

Do you like that one, Cedric? I think I like that one.

Little Red Fish and the Big, Bad Shark.

Well, can you pause the video now and see if you can come up with any of your own with your teddy talk partner? I think I'm going to go with Little Red Fish and the big, bad shark, because I imagine my shark would still have really sharp teeth and be so much bigger and scarier than Little Red Fish.

And I've already got ideas of where things could go wrong for the little, red fish.

Okay, so for this section of the lesson, you'll need your story map, your original Little Red Riding Hood story map, and we're going to go with Little Red Riding Hood and the big, red fish.

Ooh, I made an error there! Little Red Fish and the big, bad shark.

Oh, goodness me, I'm not sure how that story would have turned out, Cedric, do you? Okay, so Little Red Fish and the Big, Bad Shark.

Now, you might want to draw along with me and use this story.

You might have other ideas, and that's okay too.

You might want to just listen for now and then copy it up later.

It's completely up to you.

Okay, so let's have a think about it.

My main character is no longer Little Red Riding Hood.

It is Little Red Fish, so I'm going to cross out Little Red Riding Hood and her mum, and it's going to be Little Red Fish, and obviously Mummy Red Fish would be there too.

And, she can no longer live in a forest.

What underwater plants are there? Seaweed! Yes.

He gets told to go through the seaweed to his grandma's cave.

Now he comes to a path, well, he wouldn't come to a path anymore.

He should have gone down to the seaweed, He will, should have gone down to the seaweed, he took the wrong route and went down the hmm, underwater? Coral reef! So, he should have gone through the seaweed, but instead he went through the coral reef.

So you can see how, if you change one thing, sometimes you have to change another two.

Now, it's not a big, bad wolf anymore.

It's a big, bad shark, so I'm going to cross out the wolf and turn him into a shark.

And it can't be hunters that come anymore.

It could be fishermen.

What other sea creatures, turtles, octopus, there's loads.

Oh, dolphin, I like that one.

We'll go with dolphin.

A family of dolphins swim by and scare the shark away.

I've actually heard that about dolphins, that they can attack sharks and look after humans.

Okay, so we can't get to Grandma's house anymore.

You would have to go to her cave, her underwater cave.

And then when he goes in the cave, I'm going to stick with that the shark has big eyes.

You can't have big ears anymore if he's a shark, but you would have a big fin.

What a big fin you have, or fins.

And then we can keep the big mouth and sharp teeth, and the ending could stay the same as well.

He gobbles her up! Gobbles him up, should I say, Little Red Fish, not Little Red Riding Hood and the Little Red Fish.

Now it's time to talk through our new ideas.

Oh, I'm so excited about this new, recycled story already, children.

Little Red Fish and the Big, Bad Shark.

I think we can have lots of fun with it and really build that drama in.

So, I'm going to talk through the map and then you're going to have a go at talking through the map with your talk partner, or your own map if you've done your own ideas.

Okay, so once there was a little red fish, and this is the bit where he's told to go through the seaweed to his grandmother's house.

Now, he comes to the seaweed, but next to the seaweed is a coral reef, which looks really lovely and appealing, and he wants to take some nice coral to his grandma.

So he goes down the coral pathway, which he was told not to do.

When he goes down the coral pathway, he meets the big, bad shark.

And the big, bad shark is just about to gobble him up when a family of calm, peaceful dolphins come by and that's when he feels, phew, relief.

Then, the next bit that really builds the drama is inside grandma's dark cave where the big, bad shark is waiting.

Little Fish swims into the cave and looks at Grandma Fish in a strange way.

He mentions her big eyes, her huge fin, and her big sharp teeth, before the big, bad shark gobbles her up.

And if we think about our steps here, Little Red Fish is feeling nervous, scared, doesn't want to go.

The seaweed is dark and scary.

I wonder what will happen.

She gets, he gets to the seaweed and the coral reef, he chooses the wrong way.

I hope he'll be okay.

The big, bad shark, I wonder if he's going to eat him.

I really hope he'll be okay.

Family of dolphins, phew, relief.

He gets to the cave, it's dark, it's scary.

I wonder if the shark has gone.

Big eyes, big fin.

I wonder if it is the shark.

Gobbled up.
