Hello, I'm Adam and this is Panda.

We are on unit four, lesson six, using the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Should we see what's on the agenda today? So, for our warmup, I'm going to sing you a new nursery rhyme and then together we can sing Hickory Dickory Dock.

And then the main challenge of today's lesson is to take the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and change it to make a new story.

And for this session you will need later on, not now, but later on, you'll need to have a piece of paper and a pencil.

Okay, onto the warmup.

Today for our warmup, I thought I'd sing you a nursery rhyme that has church bells in it.

And it's set in London where these church bells can almost hear each other and talk to each other.

And it's a famous nursery rhyme.

You may have heard it before.

And afterwards I thought we could sing Hickory Dickory Dock, which we've learnt in another unit.

These are the church bells.

Imagine they're ringing across the city.

Nursery rhymes done.

So the main challenge of this lesson is quite a peaceful and thoughtful one.

We need to take the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and change it.

So a good starting point is to look at the story map of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and work from that.

Here we go.

Let's have a look at that one.

So, the main problem in The Three Billy Goats Gruff is that the three billy goats wanted to cross the river.

Now they wanted to cross the river because they wanted to get to the green grass on the other side.

But maybe there can be another reason in the next story.

We need to work that out.

But the problem really stopping them is the troll who lives under the bridge.

So I think we need to change the troll, and we can talk about that, Panda.

I'm sure you'll have good ideas.

So, the youngest one, middle size one and then the big one will all have to get past the new problem, whatever it might be, to get to the other side.

Hmm, let's start with a blank piece of paper.

Here we go.

So, let's start to think about making up a new story.

So, Panda, in the last story the problem was the troll.

How about we change the troll this time? And have a different, what about a monster? Or a dragon, says Panda? I do like the idea of a dragon.

Let's start with the problem this time.

So if I was going to do a dragon I might start with the jaws.

Give the dragon some teeth, eyes.

Dragons are quite pointy, aren't they? Big feet.

Now dragons do have long tails.

I've got a lot of room on my map here.

Of course the main thing is that they have wings.

So that's my dragon.

So the dragon lives under the bridge.

What's she like then, this dragon? Is it a she? Yeah, the dragon and she likes colourful things Panda says.

So, dragons tend to really like gold.

So maybe she collects things that are gold and shiny.

She likes gold.

What other colours does she like? Blue, she likes blue and shiny things.

Okay, she's a shiny, colourful dragon.

Lots of dragons are quite reddish, aren't they, in colour? So, a shiny dragon lives under the bridge now, not a troll.

Maybe this dragon likes fancy things.

Shall we have a think about those billy goats gruff? Let's, right, instead of three billy goats gruff, we can still have three billy goats but we could change them, couldn't we? Panda, she still wants a little one.

Let's, whoops a daisy.

She still wants a little billy goat, okay.

No problem.

A little billy goat.

Now this little billy goat has got to be different from the one we had before who was sweet as apple pie.

Panda says maybe this one likes to wear hats.

Does she like colourful hats? Panda says she likes to wear colourful hats, so I'm going to give her a golden hat.

Maybe the dragon would like that golden hat.

All right, another billy goat.

A small one, after that we've the middle size one.

He's got horns, this one.

So, what's the middle size one like? In the last story, the middle size one was the clever one.

I guess they're all quite clever, aren't they? What is this one like? Panda says that the middle size billy goat gruff likes to wear fancy frocks and dresses.

That's going to be a strange one.

What colour is the dress? Purple, okay.

I've never drawn a fancy dress on a.

A fancy dress on a billy goat.

Oh, I like this idea.

So they're quite frilly, these goats.

Fancy, frilly billy goats.

I like the idea.

What about the big billy goat? Let's draw him.

Haven't got a lot of space on my map.

The big billy goat gruff has got the horns.

Look a bit rabbit-y, those do.

I need to sharpen them up a bit.

He's the grumpy one, the tough one.

What is this one like? Panda says, is it shoes he likes, Panda? No? Scarves, he wants to wear golden scarves around his neck to keep himself warm.

So now we've got three frilly goats, three frilly goats fluff.

And the problem is the dragon in the middle.

Should we pause our mapping now? Would you like to have a go at drawing your shiny dragon under the bridge? And your three frilly goats fluff? I'll pause the video.

Time to get to work.

So, how are you getting on? I'd love to see your dragons.

In fact, everybody at The Oak Academy would love to see your work.

Speak to your carers and teachers and they'll know how to share with us.

Now, we need to carry on now.

We've got a shiny dragon.

We've got three frilly goats fluff.

The youngest one likes wearing hats.

The middle size one like to wear fancy frocks and dresses.

And the big billy goat gruff likes to wear brightly coloured scarves.

So, they've got to trick the troll.

Let's have some black on my.

Let's have some black.

Okay, just going to draw an arrow to the next bit of the story.

So, if the youngest one goes, ♪ I'm just a little billy goat ♪ ♪ With a little fancy hat ♪ And he goes to the bridge and the dragon would hear him coming and go, "Who's that trip, trap, trapping over the bridge?" What would he do? Oh, Panda says maybe he could give his hat to the dragon.

Oh, maybe the dragon would like wearing his hat.

That's a nice idea.

Wonder how he could fit a hat on over there? Well then, when the second one comes, what could the second frilly goat fluff give? Does she give her fancy frock? Okay then, so first present, the golden hat.

Second present, a frilly frock.

"Oo, thank you", says the dragon.

"I like a frilly frock." And finally, the big billy goat comes.

I like your idea Panda, really good.

Panda says he throws the scarf.

"Oh, a fancy, spancy scarf.

Lovely, oh.

Can I come shopping with you?" "Can we all go to the shops?" So that'd be a very different story, wouldn't it? Once upon a time there were three frilly goats fluff.

The youngest one liked wearing fancy hats.

The middle size one liked to wear frilly frocks.

And the oldest one liked to wear shiny scarves.

And they went to the bridge and there was the scary dragon.

And the trick, we'll have to work out how to make this sound exciting.

I like the idea of tricks.

So the first one throws a hat in the air and says, "Try that on".

The middle size one says, "Try a frock".

And the big one says, "Try a scarf." And maybe, says Panda, they can all go shopping together.

Why, it's a good place to start.

Shall we let the children have a chance to finish their story maps? I'm going to pause the video again.

Finish your story maps and come back when you're done.

Time to work.

So, how did you find that? Did you find it fun, thinking of silly things for the billy goats gruff to wear? And drawing the dragon as well? It's quite a thoughtful process thinking about ideas.

But I like the idea of a different problem, a dragon who likes shiny things and the billy goats wearing frilly, silly, brightly coloured things and really liking clothes.

It looks like the billy goats don't want the grass.

Maybe the billy goats want to go shopping.

It's a great starting point for our next lesson when we'll be developing the ideas in the story and working at how to make it exciting so the problem matters and that we care about the solution.

So, show your pictures and your maps to the people that you know and keep on drawing and thinking about ideas.

And Panda and I, we really look forward to seeing you in the next lesson soon.

Bye-bye.
